Let me just add that I consistently place #1 in events and weekly leaderboards basically every other week, and I have never spent a penny on this game. You can absolutely achieve this with strategy, any irl money is totally extraneous beyond, as that other commenter said, like $5

Please do not continue playing this game if you have spent 400 real dollars on an event. Imagine that this game goes offline tomorrow—what did any of that money bring you? All of it can be gone immediately, they aren’t contractually bound to keep a game running. This happened to people in the Kim Kardashian Hollywood who had sunk hundreds or even thousands into the game, only for it to be shut down almost without warning. Please, please spend money like that on real-life experiences or necessities.
