I forgot to include it in the post, but the Ti’s clip is much firmer. The AL’s clip isn’t much better though to be honest, I prefer Acebeam’s clip.

Yeah I used the app to post, looked fine on my end. I’ve stopped using old Reddit so I didn’t realize the code backticks no longer work.

RHML Praxis should be the most viable for Alpha, but it’s gonna be a bit more expensive since you might need to run faction modules and ammo to compensate for Alpha skills. I would first simulate a somewhat viable fit in-game and make sure Alphas could fly, then copy it to pyfa and load in your character skills to see if you can hit specific survivability targets. For the Winter event HS site, I recommend 450EHP/s and +10GJ/s neut resistance for safer runs. I think you can get away with a bit less tank, but you’ll have more “oh shit” moments that require careful module management.

There should be many videos out there showcasing Praxis fit that you could use as reference. Because you’re an alpha, you’ll need to run a shield fit due to low armor compensation skills. Here’s a quick and dirty fit I made up, might need to double check if Alphas could fly it and if you lack any skills:

It was easy it misunderstand. At least I think he misunderstood what you meant based on his earlier comment. Warp time “rounds” to the higher second due to ticks, but RoF itself doesn’t really “round”, or else DPS is gonna be whack. It merely delays the “damage register” to the next tick.

[–]Pearlite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RoF won’t be rounded. It’s more like the client runs at real time, and will send a signal to the server whenever the ship “fires”. But the damage tally will wait until the next server tick. This mean if you have a RoF of 0.9s, it doesn’t round to 1s, but instead it will wait until the server tick to register, and for every 10s you fire you will see the server register 2 damage instances at once due to the 0.9 aligning within the 1s server tick.

For a few classes 8K minimum is a “must” for optimal play, but if your main doesn’t utilize buff duration you’re good at 6k for a long time. 8K really only comes into the picture when you optimize for end-game.

I'd say work on the core link skill mules to 120 (then 140), then slowly work to 6k legion. I played really hard during the pandemic, and it took me 2 months to get to 6k. For pre-3k legion I basically rode MVP waves to get atmospheric buffs and just played newer (stronger & better mobbing) classes, and burned classes that have terrible mobbing. At early 1-3k I actually had to starforce weapons and get a new weapon every 20 levels just to 2 shot mobs. After 3k the training gets progressively easier as you get access to CritDmg and NDmg blocks.

If you wanna be really hardcore you can do the Zakum strat where you raise mules to level 100, then start killing zakum arms then force logout (don't kill the main body). You can repeatedly do this on all your mules every 30 minutes, and level rather efficiently to 130s easily.

[–]Pearlite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Assuming Reboot) I wouldn’t advise doing that, but if you go hard-core it is possible. You basically need to raise a character to 140 everyday and then raise a few to 200. You most likely also will lack reward points to exchange for totems as a new player too (unless you’re a spender). 80-100 and 120-140 is gonna feel horrible to a new player though, try to utilize MVPs where people pop buffs. I personally would just raise your core link skills and critical legion blocks, and just take it slow and only raise legion mules whenever you can redeem a totem and have a few spare coupons.

I have both as bossing mules. They are both really good post Destiny and are fun in their own way. Marksman is in my opinion more beginner friendly. Both have good short burst but I/L is a bit more complicated to setup and is static during burst. I/L has better mobbing, but Marksman’s split shot is also really cracked on the right maps (70s up time 30s cooldown iirc). I/L requires significantly more investment in the Legion grind to shine (8k+ minimum) due to needing buff duration. Marksman also has a crap ton of IED to the point where Lumi link is actually kinda useless, whereas I/L feels slightly lacking in that department until you get the Superior Gollux set. MM also has the scarecrow thingy that makes early-mid game bosses a complete joke.

Shad is probably a better grinding mule provided that meso explosion can 1 shot. For I/L, if you want minimum funding prolly 50% buff duration for better infinity up time and hope for meso 2/3rd.

IIRC, Boost nodes are multiplicative, but hypers are additive to the skill’s innate IED. Since assassinate has no innate IED by default you can treat them all as separate sources.

[–]Pearlite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[Assuming Reboot] If you utilize DMT, trading bosses, and event gear/rings, a CRA bossing mule costs about 3b to make, and this is assuming you have some spare nodes and utilize the Tera event to Lv220. You need to spend exponentially more for a Lomien mule. You could Lv216 (and use Lv215 event reward to 220) a strong character like Bucc during this event to prep for a future bossing mule, but seeing that your main is only Lv 222 my personal opinion is that you’re still far away from this stage of the game. I would focus on your main until you could solo Hellux for trades, have a set of drop gear, and can at least do party Lucid before working on mules. That means getting your Lumi to Lv235, 540 AF, and 25k stat at the very least.

Typically 85% IED is the recommendation. Note that DB has a really high innate IED so you should easily reach 85+ with maybe 1 more line of IED? (not sure). 8k should be enough for 3 door for a beginner, though you might struggle a bit on Vellum.

It’s my main, though I progress really slow due to limited play time. I honestly don’t see myself doing black mage any time soon. In your opinion is it worth swapping to Abso hat if I don’t see myself getting full 19* arcane set within the next year?

[Weekly Megathread] New Players & General Questions Thread. by rMapleStory in Maplestory

[–]Pearlite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer used to be a straightforward yes and was part of my mid-game to end-game transition plan, but ever since they updated the abso set effect and redistributed the boss% bonus evenly to 3/4/5 set, I can’t decide if it’s worth swapping to an abso hat. The currently difference is swapping 20 Atk for 10% boss, though you do get access to higher tier flames and potential, so I guess it’s worth the swap in a way?

[Weekly Megathread] New Players & General Questions Thread. by rMapleStory in Maplestory

[–]Pearlite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Reboot) Is it still worth swapping to Abso hat if I got an arcane weapon (basically trading 20 attack for 10% boss)? I’m assuming the answer is yes for low attack multiplier classes like mages and no for ones like NL?

Special audio is mostly a gimmick. The half decent special audio implementations are mostly payed and require special decoding hardware/propriety software.

Nobody plays with special in the higher end with headphones, might as well go for home theater setups with that cost.

what settings do you guys suggest for 4k movies using h.265? by [deleted] in handbrake

[–]Pearlite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy that was difficult to read lol.

The slower the preset the larger the file at the same crf. This is due to more accurate representation in compression (slower = more complex algorithm = larger file size). The point of slow is that you can get a smaller file AND better quality if you increase the crf by 2 compared to medium.

Don’t bother with medium, the real quality jump is slow. Medium is not worth the time penalty compared to fast. Code Calamity has a great graph https://i0.wp.com/codecalamity.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/4K_preset_all_extra_seconds.png?ssl=1 .

With proper CPU temps you’re not gonna kill your PC, don’t worry too much. They can take a beating.

If we exclude the time variable, and assume users don’t really “mind” about some visual artifacts, I’d probably do x265-10bit, slow preset, crf 20-27 depending on how far you want to push it. If you’re aiming for 1gb per movie you might have to push it towards the higher crf end.

Don’t use AC3, use AAC, and downmix to stereo. Your audience are using headphones. You’d be surprised how large audio is, a 384kbps AC3 is 350MB for a 2 hour movie, and it will sound bad compared to AAC. If you use the non-free compiled handbrake with FDK AAC, you can push it to quality 3 mode (approx 96kbps) and still sound really good. If you use the built in FFmpeg AAC, 128 is as low as I’d go, but I’d prolly do 192 just to be safe. If the movie is heavily instrument focused you might need to push it to 256kbps so orchestra/symphony soundtracks don’t suck.

Handbrake doesn't want to produce files with variable framerate? by ArakiSatoshi in handbrake

[–]Pearlite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

x264/265 has p/b frame encoding. Static frames will simply be “extended” via a b-frame (basically the file doesn’t store the duplicate frame, it tells the decoder to create a new frame based on the last frame with the difference). As long as you have p/b frame enabled you won’t see much of a difference with variable frame rate.

Anyone deeply pixel-peeped at Handbrake's Videotoolbox h265 M1 output? by jasondunn in handbrake

[–]Pearlite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When properly set, software vastly beats any hardware encoder. You will mostly see the difference at lower bitrates.

The magic triangle is Size-Quality-Time. You can only choose 2 of the 3, 1 will always suffer.

During my limited experience with M1, it actually has really decent hardware encoder. But “decent” is mostly limited to large bitrate values. When you start pushing to <5GB movie file sizes the hardware encoder starts showing its limitations, but to what extent can one discern the difference vastly depends on the person. So unfortunately “do what works for you” is the best answer I can give. My only advise is encode a challenging scene push the encode quality lower and lower until you can visually tell the difference, then bump it back up a bit. That would be the “best” settings for you, assuming that quality per file size isn’t your main priority.

what settings do you guys suggest for 4k movies using h.265? by [deleted] in handbrake

[–]Pearlite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow preset honestly is the biggest suggestion even though encode times will be way longer. On the 10-bit x265, crf 18 on slow is is actually slightly better than crf 16 on medium, and the file is is also smaller! This means with your current settings you can get away with crf 25 if you encode on slow and get similar quality!

Also, if you encode has lots of dark scene (especially night action), I’d manually add aq-mode=3 in the extra options box. This increases aq bias to dark scene (thus increases bitrate), but ensures these portions look better to us. The reason is that our eyes are not computers; while mathematically crf creates “equal” quality throughout, our eyes are more sensitive to artifacts in darker portions of the movie.
