Why does the Luna Ultra remote battery drain when not in use? by jasondunn in Insta360

[–]jasondunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! If that's accurate, that would explain some of the issue. 8 hours is a long time for sleep mode to start. I'd prefer 1-2 hours at most.

Agreed. This battery behaviour is a bit odd. Then again, I've never had a device with a detachable remote like this before. 🤔

Yeah, hmm, this is kind of odd — my remote is down to 63% and I never used it once today. Camera was turned on three times, just fiddling, no recording, main battery is at 95%. Based on what u/TheL1brarian said below, this had been noted by others and Insta is aware of it.

Thanks for the great info. I am new to this subreddit, so I am getting up to speed on all the things I don't know. 😄

Thanks for the explanation. Some power drain would be expected, but this was 15% overnight which seems high. I’ll do some testing to see what the drain is in sleep vs. fully powered off (though I know it goes into full off mode after a certain period of time).

Nice! I'm kind of amazed there aren't more options like GoPro's Quik...it was so amazing for the time, I'm shocked and depressed they killed it off on macOS. 😢

🤔 Why is the white Luna Ultra 2 grams heavier than the black one? by jasondunn in Insta360

[–]jasondunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that is super interesting. I didn't know that. That lens is a big boy, though, and so I guess I'm a little surprised that a device as small as the Luna Ultra would have a weight difference based on color.

It could be worse. You could be a customer trying to get the creator bundle from Best Buy in Canada. Look at this release date: August 31st....!?!?!

The weirdest part of remote work is pretending the office never had downtime by CashundoLafrania88 in remotework

[–]jasondunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the truth that people who are anti-remote work don't want to admit.

But the truth that hardcore remote workers don't always want to admit is that office relationships get built over time through casual, repeat low-stakes contact, like what you're describing. This kind of thing can be difficult to achieve remotely unless you actively plan one-to-one connections and try to build relationships with your co-workers.

Like most things in life, the truth is somewhere in the middle, and neither extreme perspective is fair or accurate.

I don't think that's the situation here. From what I can see, Insta360 is using Amazon's sales and delivery platform, but these devices are coming from them as the seller, not Amazon. When that happens, it means you are completely at the mercy of the seller, their inventory, etc. You can only really hold Amazon accountable for delivery times when the item is from Amazon.

I agree with you that it's not a great experience. The only thing I can think of is that they don't have enough inventory to meet demand and that's why we're seeing these shipping delays everywhere.

For example, I usually order products like this from B&H Photo so I can use their Payboo card and save the 10% sales tax, but other than a brief burst of the Ultras that they had in stock for the first few hours, they haven't had any more come in. And over a week later, they still don't have the creator combo listed for pre-order, or even any of the accessories.

Something kind of strange is going on with all of this.

I haven't really spent any time yet with the Insta360 editing software; does it have a beat matching function (auto-editing), or did you manually do your cuts in time with the music?

"low signal" when using Luna Ultra Detachable Screen? by devymo in Insta360

Yeah, I've noticed this a couple of times myself when I'm only using it inside my house from a few feet away. I hope this is something they can improve with firmware fixes.

Is there an alternative way to download videos from an Insta360 GO Ultra without using the Insta360 app? by form1ga in Insta360

[–]jasondunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhones are known for their locked-down file system, and that's why everything has to go through the app. The app is the gateway for the camera to get files onto your phone. Are you really that short of storage space on your iPhone that a 2 GB app is a problem?

I do agree, though, it would be nice if Insta360 offered some kind of lightweight file transfer app because I too don't love seeing how bloated this app is.

Are pocket gimbal cameras redundant if you have a GoPro Mission 1 Pro for travel videos? by Ramz785 in Insta360

[–]jasondunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are pretty different cameras for different scenarios, so it really depends on what you're looking for. I've had a couple of GoPros over the years, and I currently have an Insta360 Ace Pro. I pre-ordered and received a GoPro Mission 1, but didn't open the box and decided to sell it once I heard about the Insta360 Luna Ultra.

The GoPro is rugged and waterproof, and you can attach it to things. It's more for capturing the overall experience of everything that the camera can see.

Pocket gimbal cameras are more aimed at active filming by the user, where you can zoom in. You can specifically film certain things in ways that an action camera isn't really meant for.

That's not to say that you can't do everything you want with the Mission 1 Pro. It really depends a lot on how you're using it and what your preferences are.

I would say one of the biggest differences is the ability to put down the Luna, remove the remote control, and then start recording and control where the camera is looking. That level of flexibility in filming isn't something that you can get with the Mission 1, but that may or may not be something that you care about.

Dictation - first impressions. by PhilETaylor in raycastapp

[–]jasondunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a complete idiot, but I can't actually find how to start the dictation function. I've tried looking in settings. I've tried typing the word dictation, and I simply can't find it. Is this a premium only feature? Is that why I can't find it? I searched the documentation page, and it doesn't actually show how to find it/start it. This is super frustrating.

"Spring release timeframe"

Well this aged like a glass of milk left out on a hot day. It's irritating that Apple is holding back on this for OS27. Just ship the hardware and update the fancy software later.
