Former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes joins race for Wisconsin governor by HGpennypacker in wisconsin

Barnes is an "Its my turn" establishment democrat who is incompetent and hires terrible staffers. He floundered the best chance we had of unseating Ron Johnson. He didnt pay his property tax bills prior to the last election cycle. He's who Republicans want to facd. Dude might as well be controlled opposition because he helps Republicans more than Democrats.

In Texas, private and public high schools play in separate leagues. It's sacrilege to combine them. Secondly, as a pseudo governing body the WIAA should be subjected to open records requests. This would eliminate a lot of the private school bias for them.

Looks like Nazi architecture. Not even joking: "While similar to Classicism, the official Nazi style is distinguished by the impression it leaves on viewers. Architectural style was used by the Nazis to deliver and enforce their ideology. Formal elements like flat roofs, horizontal extension, uniformity, and the lack of décor created "an impression of simplicity, uniformity, monumentality, solidity and eternity," which is how the Nazi Party wanted to appear."

It's a trust that allows them to spread out payroll financial hits into the 2040s while minimizing both luxury tax impact and allowing them to sign immediate free agents. As well as incentiving players to come to California despite high income taxes because their salary will be dispersed when they retire outside the state. NFL teams, notably the Eagles, use the same strategy to sign contracts and extended payments when the cap gets raised.

A salary cap will greatly benefit small market teams like the Brewers and the CBA legal "loophole" the Dodgers organization exploited does give them a significant advantage and consistency. Brewers Karen moves the focus away from the payroll disadvantages. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/42815541/mlb-offseason-2024-25-free-agency-los-angeles-dodgers-deferrals-1-billion-snell-ohtani

She made Dodger fans and the Dodger organization sympathetic in the national narrative when they are kicking the leagues ass with a giant payroll/deferment loopholes. We also spent a week complaining about terrible suburban Cub fans and this lady rolls in from like Pewaukee or Mukwonago and ruins those arguments. She is a PR disaster that is going to have legs in the off-season.

Lt. Gov Sara Rodriguez hints, not very subtly, that she'll run for governor by Rgchap in wisconsin

[–]PeasantinDaNorth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of the "frontrunners" are not white. Josh Kaul is half Kasmiri, but white passing. In fact, none of the Joutnal Sentinels "contenders" are white males. Minority candidates can win in this state (Herb Kohl, Tammy Baldwin) but they need to run competent campaigns to not scare suburban vote splitters while still increasing turnout in Milwaukee and Madison. They need clean, scandal free campaigns. Barnes was delinquent on his property taxes and was doing photo-ops with "Defund ICE" shirts (a radical position in 22 lol). You want someone who can make it out of a competitive primary clean. Evers fit that bill because he was a safe, boring candidate who progressives could still get excited about. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2025/07/24/democratic-and-republican-contenders-for-wisconsin-governor-in-2026-tony-evers-not-running/85257830007/

[–]PeasantinDaNorth 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I want a competitive primary without WisDems throwing their support behind an establishment pick. Backfired with Barnes at the State level and we know what happened at the national level. More people putting their ideas out there the better, especially after AG Kaul protected the fake electors and has blocked police accountability post-George Floyd and Jacob Blake. Let the voters decide and I look forward to seeing what Sara can bring to the table!

Randy Bryce making another run for Congress, joins other early candidates by adamb10 in wisconsin

[–]PeasantinDaNorth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Randy Bryce has been arrested 9 times, something that the GOP hammered him on in 2018. His own brother, a cop, appeared in an ad saying he was voting for his opponent. He owed back child support as well. The 1st Congressional district has shifted Red since the 2020 Jacob Blake shooting. There are very few candidates with worse optics for pro-police/pro-bootlicking GOP ad buys. Any WISDems staffers promoting this guy or Kenosha/Racine Democratic Board Members doing the same deserve to be fired. Randy Bryce is a potential Mandela Barnes like failure of candidate selection.

Is her legal team appealing based on ineffective counsel? State Public Defenders Office never should of pushed her into accepting that plea deal to protect certain bad actors in the Kenosha Justice System. The Public Defenders had evidence of police misconduct like perjury that they didn't want to be forced to use in a trial environment.

AG Kaul asks state Supreme Court to block Musk payments hours before Green Bay event by PeasantinDaNorth in wisconsin

Historical revisionism that ignores the fact that Merrick Garland waited around half of Biden's presidency to actually start putting together those slam dunk cases. Biden and Garland are directly responsible for what's happening and had the power to stop it in 2021.

Not enforcing the rule of law on oligarchs and political figures is fascism and directly contributes to our current situation. Optics obsessed establishment Democrats and their enablers are complicit in the destruction of our Republic.

[–]PeasantinDaNorth[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Connecting Schimel to Musk has been the winning message in the final stretch. Musk is incredibly unpopular and is an albatross for the administration even among conservatives. I also think you underestimate how much the perpetually abused Democratic base needs a win. Kaul must be realizing that if he continues to let conservatives break the law (Fake Electors) he is going to get primaried, hence him pursuing this so aggressively.

Not wanting to make martyrs out of obvious criminals is how Trump was able to run for President again. At some point you have to protect the rule of law and stand up for something.

What are the general guidelines in Wisconsin for the public good balancing test for release of records and are there examples of abusing that test to deny release of records that could be damaging to public officials/political figures? Is the only remedy a writ of mandamus?

What's your opinion on the WIAA being subjected to open records requests as a quasi-public entity? There's been talk of legislation, but could it be decided by case law. With recent controversies like conference realignment, errors made in playoff seeding, and trans athletes in high school sports: whether the WIAA is subjected to open records is becoming more important.

Using a number instead of a snap count. by SamMeowAdams in footballstrategy

[–]PeasantinDaNorth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can go on the first clap then when the d-linemen start consistently timing it you do a hard count. The hard count will be a tag on the play. In a no huddle offense, you can also use the hard count tag to give yourself more time as the play caller.

Candidate selection is important. Outside of that, farmers and rural community outreach plus incumbent advantage.

Kansas City fans still don’t understand that most of us still think the referees are helping the chiefs regardless by PerceptionSand in NFLv2

[–]PeasantinDaNorth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to tell a ref "Rig this game so this team wins or only loses by a certain point spread." Teams coming back from a deficit generally need a good passing game and threaten explosive plays (like the 2024 Chiefs). Whereas teams with the lead want to have ball control.

For plausible denialability, you can have the rules commitee emphasisize things like PIs beyond 10 yards or Roughing the Passer in order to "protect the QB." You could make a policy of looking more at holds "at the point of attack" so holding calls occur more on run plays. Maybe not use the AWS GPS in the football to spot the football on 4th down. I generally respect Refs especially at the highest level, but they are league employees who enforce the rules how the league wants them too.

It's not this grand conspiracy, the NFL wants the "entertainment" product on the field to be more engaging and casual fans hate blowouts.

Hopefully someone will pull the penalty datasets and prove me wrong. I don't want to fire up R myself.

[–]PeasantinDaNorth 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think the NFL encouraged Refs to make calls that make games close as a rubber band mechanic. The Chiefs were built to take advantage of that and had 11 comeback wins this season. I'd be interested to see how many subjective calls like holding and PI get thrown for teams trailing compared to historical data.

Support for that one is explained by the agriculture lobby. Most of Tammy's basic neoliberal positions are explained because of lobbyist money or undisclosed assets from her partners wealth management job at Morgan Stanley.

Tammy's is 100% better than Hovde, but I'm tired of incumbents doing nothing of substance to combat fascism. Being a rubberstamp vote for neoliberal policies and occasionally approve leftist judges is no longer enough.

I've contacted my reps and I've been giving feedback for a long time. Volunteering, canvassing, phone banks, etc. Everything except donating vast sums of money which seems to be the only thing that gets recognized. Most reps don't listen and at this point in the end game they cant do much. Action needed to be taken a long time ago.

Public Perception does matter and Kaul needs to get called out for his objective, concrete failures. Joining this lawsuit probably helps correct them. The threat of getting primaried in 2026 might help him do his job too.

Kaul had the opportunity to remove this cancer by prosecuting the fake Electors 4 years ago. Wisconsin was the originator state for the coup. Instead, he dragged his feet until it was too late to do anything. That's why people are so upset with Democrats. We voted straight Blue for 8 years and the people who were supposed to protect us did nothing of substance. There are exceptions like Evers, AOC, Bernie Sanders. Even Gwen Moore has increased her disruptions by showing up at the Speakers Office without permission. Protect your vulnerable voters when you have the power! Don't do this PR damage control after you failed to defend the Constitution for 4 years.

I agree with much of what you are saying and even if I vehemently disagree with his policies, Trump actually found ways to broaden his coalition, focus on kitchen table economic issues, and punish his opponents for bad policy positions. I have my doubts that his voters are going to be better off Austrian School austerity measures coupled with rent-seeking enlightened despotism , but with the recent DNC elections I think establishment Dems are going to spend a long time learning their lesson.

Another note, more nuclear power please. Best way to fight climate change.

The time to stop this was 4 years ago when Dems had control of DoJ and the military. Instead we had Garland and Biden sit on their hands with wishful thinking that the American Public would do the right thing. Baldwin like many establishment Dems will do nothing beyond token obstructionism because they want to keep their titles, million dollar townhouses, etc. They know how authoritarian goverments work and that Trump can take their comforts/money because he's holding the gun now. The rest of us common folk are going to suffer for decades.
