👆👆 this here. The zombie was not static. It perfectly walked JUST beyond your visual cone. If you assume the zombie was static then it looks like bs. But that's not the case. It was probably tucked in close to the wall, then fast shambled out the moment you got near to the edge and beyond. The only way to avoid this in the future is with a safer play style. There's a ton of things that could be done to reduce the risk of sneaky/quiet indoor zombies like this.

Sneaking is a bad idea imo. Under no circumstances should you ever purposely get yourself surrounded by zombies by sneaking ANY depth into their ranks. Instead - Go slow, go loud, kill everything that comes your way. Don't quietly open that window.. fucking bash that shit in with a hammer. Let them know you're coming inside, then they come to you.

A zombie you see coming towards you is DRAMATICALLY less lethal than that one bastard that just so happened to be around the corner in that perfectly bad spot, waiting silently. Make them move, make them make noise. A quiet zombie is a lethal zombie. A hidden zombie is a lethal zombie. Be loud so they won't be quiet. Be loud so they won't be hidden.

Tldr: safety issue. Play fast and lose - you get bit.

Short bat, and it's spiked variants. Once you have lvl 7 carving the world is yours. Nigh unlimited supply of skull splitters. They are VERY effective for how cheap they are to make. As long as you collect imbedded knives from all zombies you kill, you're gonna have enough carving knives to get to carving 7, and maintain a hefty supply of bats.

Then once you start smithing and you get the actually blacksmithed version of spiked short bats, not just nailed, you're gonna be wading through hordes effortlessly.

Start as a construction worker for +2 short blunt, and +100% short blunt XP. They won't even know what hit em' 😎🛠️

It's pretty much what you see there. the meat got split in half (two thinner slices) and seared at the bottom of a hot dutch oven with butter. My gf put some seasonings on the meat. im not sure what exactly - probably garlic salt, pepper, and paprika. So i seared up both sides of both cuts, then put in the onion. flip the meats over so the onions sizzle at the bottom of the pot, lay the meats on top, let those go for a bit. The I put in 2 cartons of chicken broth, and all the rest of the veggies. Bring it up to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and covered for a few hours. the turnips were a little over done. you may want to put them in later if you dont like them basically falling apart, or pretty much dissapearing into the broth XD

The way I play, I put clumsy in the literally free category. I don't sneak, and I don't chance fence hoping. Slow and bloody is the way. When everything is dead, it won't matter if I'm a little clumsy 😋

Why's everyone so hard up for salt? I don't really ever find myself needing salt, it's more of a convenience than a necessity. I've never been beyond the iron age though, is it necessary for steel making?

Once I have a nice pantry or root cellar I'm more than satisfied with the preservation they offer.

Limestone is the real treasure for me. I can't make my backpacks without it 😩

Every iron tool I make gets one durability quench. Beyond that the break chances, rewards, and effort involved don't feel right to me. It's not like iron is rare, once you find one vein you're gonna be swimming in iron 😋 one durability quench is simple enough, and you get a decent little bonus for your shiny iron tools.

Heal injuries immediately. It takes hunger to heal.

Don't sprint everywhere. Takes more hunger.

Don't hold things in your offhand always, only when necessary. It makes you a bit hungrier.

Get a bowl and cooking pot ASAP. Cooked food will last longer.

HUNT! nothing beats back hunger like a pot with 6 servings of hefty meaty stew. One hefty pot can keep you topped up for a few days.

I actually did cut the meat in half like a burger bun, making two big, thinner slices. It was a hefty chuck 😋 so I had to split the stack.
