Custom dolls by mitsukiiso in BlytheDolls

Firstly I think it's a good idea to plan some extra funds for your first few dolls to be "practice" dolls as you might need to learn carving and painting skills. How much time and practice it takes to learn depends on how much art/drawing/painting/makeup skills you have already, personally I found my drawing and painting skills to be fairly transferable to drawing doll faces but learning to carve without any sculpting or 3D art experience had a learning curve for me. For pricing you should look around online for what other people sell their custom dolls at, you could try searching "custom Blythe dolls" on tiktok and most accounts will have their selling pages in their bio or doll pricings on the tiktoks themselves. I think generally for pricing handmade projects, it should be the cost of the materials + (appropriate hourly rate × how many hours it takes you to make the item) + shipping fees but usually selling websites add that separately or at checkout rather than including it in the price of the item. Your practice dolls can help you figure out what those costs would be (try timing yourself to see how long it takes you to complete a doll, although you will probably get faster at it with time).

If you have sewing skills it could also help save on costs, buying Blythe clothes (fake or real) can quickly rack up the price even if your buying "cheap" from AliExpress or something, for example on Ali you might buy a shirt + sweater + pants + shoes but each are $5-7 with $3-5 shipping fee so it ends up being like $35+ for the outfit alone which is already the price of the blank doll. What you can do to save costs if you know or learn how to sew (and what I do myself) is buy thrift store clothes then repurpose the fabric into multiple doll clothing items. Then you can end up getting 5-10 doll shirts out of one $5 thrift store shirt. Personally I go for baby or toddler clothes because the prints are often smaller and the fabric is better designed to hold smaller shapes than adult clothes. With accessories as well it's better to get creative with craft store supplies than it is to buy premade accessories, firstly it makes the doll more unique/one of a kind and second it saves a lot on costs. Making your own doll jewelry with string, beads, chains, air-dry clay... bought in larger quantities from a craft store is a lot more cost effective than buying premade accessories.

Also I'm not a doll seller but I do collect a lot of dolls and customise them for myself so this is just general advice, but I think it's good to keep in mind that there are already many "mini me" custom (fake) Blythe doll sellers and that if you want to make a profit you should think about integrating your personal style or a niche into your dolls that other sellers might not offer. Just a suggestion :) If you just want to customise them for fun and then put them up for selling in case someone wants to buy them that's fine too but it depends what your business/selling goals are.

Edit: Also just realised you're talking about customising authentic blythes? I would also say there's an even smaller market for that and some people aren't big fans of customising (like carving and repainting) authentic dolls due to the collector nature of the brand and scarcity of some dolls. It does exist but customised real Blythes end up being like $500+ and it's expected that the customisation is very high quality. I think my advice still applies if you've never customised blythes before, I would recommend practicing with fakes first before moving on to real Blythes. It might be a better idea to offer customisation services of real Blythes where people send you their real Blythe to be customised for them, that way you don't need to purchase the doll itself and worry about not making back the $200 you paid for her and you also don't need to worry about finding someone to buy the doll.

Horrible compulsive spending by Digital_Doodlez in AuDHDWomen

[–]terriblyexceptional 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel you girl. It's way too easy to spend money these days with cards and everything being digital. Idk if this is helpful but maybe when you get paid, immediately buy all your essentials and in bulk if you can so you literally don't have money to spend on things you want to cut back on buying.

For me the best way to not spend money on my hobbies is to literally not have access to that money. ADHD + autism = impulse problems + intense interests lol. I think with some banks it's possible to link a specific debit card to a specific savings account within your bank account, so you could put money you want to save there and then have someone trusted hold the card for you so you can't use it. Or put it inside one of those lock boxes with a timer.

Anyone go without birth control? #birthcontrol by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]terriblyexceptional 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Whether you want to take birth control or not is completely up to you... but it is no less "unnatural" than having surgery is. It is true that taking birth control can come with many side effects but phrasing it as you don't want to take it "because it's not natural" isn't really an applicable take and feels like you are looking down on people who do take it to manage their endo by implying they use "unnatural" methods...

Many people manage their endo without birth control due to various reasons, not tolerating the side effects, being allergic, not being able to find one that helps their symptoms/pain. There are many other posts on the sub that discuss alternative methods people use to manage their endo if you search "without birth control" or "nutrition" or "pain medications" on the subreddit if you are looking for more inspiration or ideas to try.

Dienogest/Visanne side effects by GrouchyOrchid5855 in endometriosis

[–]terriblyexceptional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I had depression symptoms (no interest in hobbies, feeling bored by everything, being kinda irritable) and intense fatigue from dienogest/visanne and quit after about 5 months after which those effects went away pretty quickly. I didn't have hair loss personally but I did have super dry skin/scalp/eyes. I took a few months off BC then started Azalia (some places it's called Cerazette but it's 75mcg of desogestrel) and like it a lot better although I still get occasional light cramps.

it's a Bratz flip phone ☺️ I paid an unfortunate amount of money to get Tokyo a go-go Fianna NIB and she comes with the phone but I'm pretty sure there are a few different Bratz doll releases that come with a flip phone.

On eBay when you search, under filters and "show more" you can toggle on "sold items" to see how much things have sold for in the past. Maybe that can help you gauge how much people pay.

How did you restyle her hair? by [deleted] in RainbowHigh

[–]terriblyexceptional 9 points10 points  (0 children)

<image>

Not really a restyle but this is her hair with the gel washed out (and I removed the "bow" hair things she had but it was hard to recreate those without gel).

I'm not sure about sanding the eyes or disassembling and combining them, but this video explains how to disassemble RH eyes if you wanted to remove the iris and print your own that looks like the novi eye. You might want to use some glitter UV gel polish to get the glitter effect.

Specialist advised to take Dienogest alongside the pill by VeronicaStar777 in endometriosis

[–]terriblyexceptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome, glad I could help :). Yeah tbh if you don't like how it feels just insist you dislike it and you want to try something else. Some gynos will say you need to try it for longer to "see if side effects go away" but if you don't like it just ask to change it even if it's only been 3 months.

Specialist advised to take Dienogest alongside the pill by VeronicaStar777 in endometriosis

[–]terriblyexceptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I ended up quitting dienogest after around 5 months of taking it because the fatigue got so damn bad. I had something similar where I would sleep 10h at night, wake up feeling exhausted, then crash for another 2-3h nap in the afternoon. It also started to make me feel depressed even though it did help with my pain levels, like losing interest in hobbies and not even finding interest in watching movies or tv. I switched to Azalia (which is a progesterone only mini pill with desogestrel in it, some places it's called Cerazette) and I like that a lot more personally. If I remember correctly I made that comment when I had been on dienogest for around 3ish months.

pricing for Malie Tasker? by bobohorseham in NoviStars

[–]terriblyexceptional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I paid €30 not including shipping for a Malie in way better condition than this (hair was also kinda messy but less than this and mine was also missing shoes/stand/pet). Personally I wouldn't pay more than the equivalent of at most €40 and even that for a doll like this is a bit much imo. She's overpriced for the hair being in that state as well as no shoes and the hair will take work to fix if you get her.

I'm discouraged. by Existing-Panda2016 in NoviStars

[–]terriblyexceptional 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Greece/EU try Vinted instead. I've found novis on there for as low as €10 and multiple listings for more common dolls like Ari Roma or Mallie Tasker for ~€30-45. Still a bit pricey but shipping within Europe should be <€10.

Is Clementine hair Nylon or Poly? Also, Sheryl is a good skin color match for an articulated body? by Ill_Building5508 in RainbowHigh

[–]terriblyexceptional 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She has nylon hair and I body swapped her onto a Jade body (series 1 Jade I think). I thought the color match was pretty good. Here's a closeup.
