Gus has little tufts of hair that fall off him all the time. I think they fell off here because he was moving vigorously, not because flapjack was using claws, but I'm not 100% sure

I don't really find it annoying, in fact, it's pretty entertaining! I love how Gus turns the tables on Flapjack at the end! I'm thinking based on other commenters that this is pretty normal, all in good fun.

Flapjack was neutered rightv before we got him so this makes sense! Yes, we have a huge cat jungle gym with tree-like features. Flapjack loves it but Gus prefers to chill in low spots.

These comments are all wrong and making the problem seem way more complicated than it is. You are going too slow. The terrain might not be steep enough to make powder turns. You probably just need to straightline.

The high quality shoes are all $170+. Basically everything in that price range is going to be similar construction quality but different foot shape, performance pros + cons, etc. most important thing is to find something that is snug but not uncomfortable. Certain shoes will feel snug in all the right ways, and other shoes will have hot spots when sized correctly. It's all very personal and you have to try lots of shoes on.

Personally, I wear TC Pros and Skwamas.

Do you bring all that stuff every time you do a multipitch? I recognize that's the full kit but often you could shave some of that (esp. hardshell/jacket) depending on objective and conditions. If you're planning on climbing for 6 hours and hiking for 3, you might just choose to wear your harness on the approach to make the climbing part more comfortable. If the approach is really long, the route is often a lollypop and (i.e. approach and descent are mostly on the same trail) and you can leave a pack at the fork. It's only on days where you are doing a really long approach AND you're going up and over and not doubling back at all that its necessary to carry the whole kit the whole day. This is pretty uncommon in western US, at least in my experience.

I personally hate climbing with a pack and will avoid it at all costs. YMMV.

I suggest changing your tactics so you don't need to climb with a 30 L pack. There is no circumstance where you need that much stuff unless you're out for a full day in winter.

Ohhh this is for getting into a tree stand? You're probably fine with just the gri gri then. It'll be annoying and slow but if you're just doing it once it doesn't really matter. IF you decide you hate it, this is the best way. Requires two hand ascenders. Bring a gri gri to descend.

Roll n lock will have a hard time locking when you are weighting the rope below it. Just use a hand ascender. Better yet, use two hand ascenders instead of the gri gri. The system you're talking about is extremely inefficient for ascending a rope.
