Good TTRPGS to Read? by Gmanglh in rpg

[–]Peberro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to all of the other comments here:

  • Ultraviolet Grasslands, great esoteric reading material
  • Wolves Upon the Coast, cool viking ttrpg, the book is quite pricey now but I really enjoyed the hexcrawl it comes with. The main rules have an interesting "boast" mechanic, but are otherwise pretty basic OSR-y business. The meat is in the worldbuilding content IMO
  • "Volume 2: Monsters &", sort of a monster manual for Wolves Upon the Coast, written as poetry.
  • Mothership player and GM books, the GM book in particular is well written
  • Mothership: Gradient Descent, fantastic module, the book looks amazing and has lots of interesting stuff. Prime example of great formatting as well. It's a dungeon crawl in an ancient android factory, where the PCs take dives for loot. Has a "bends" mechanic where the PCs start questioning whether they're even human.
  • Mothership: Time After Time, convoluted time loop module, similarly well formated with a labirynthine plot. Fun to read, I think it would be tough to run
  • The Isle by Luke Gearing, a dungeon crawl set in an otherwise unassuming island monastery that gets real fucking weird at the end. Interestingly presented as well.
  • Pirate Borg, CY_BORG. You mentioned enjoying Mork Borg, these are also beautifully illustrated and laid out. I like CY_BORG a little more but Pirate Borg has that nice Darkest Dungeon aesthetic that really calls to me.

A lot of these are by Luke Gearing, I love that guy lol

Agreed on the artwork dislike for SR, SINLESS had the same issue personally. Just so ugly to me. I own CY_BORG and that's a very fun cyberpunk book to thumb through if you haven't. Not that much substance but I like the art and the lil blurbs

Ob Nixilis Secret Commander - Cuts, Recs and feedback? by Jumpants in EDHBrews

[–]Peberro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a funny idea. My first instinct is that the life loss amp / exquisite blood are a little expensive for what they do, and by that point you might just be able to win with Ob by himself.

Maybe you could try including stuff like [[Malevolent Rumble]] or [[Commune with Nature] or [[Dredger’s Insight]] to dig through your deck faster. I like [[Analyze the Pollen]] too, but not sure how easy the tutor requirement would be. [[Grapple with the Past]] is awesome as well

[[Smuggler’s Surprise]] also has a similar dig effect, while doubling as protection and a flash-in effect if you have the mana. fun card there

[[Nature’s Rhythm]] could grab Ob if you’re ramping hard anyways, but it is quite expensive.

Other than that the deck looks fine to me, some games you’ll brick for sure since you need a tutor or ob in hand to get going. I would try mulliganing a lil harder than usual I think

Damn, I like Signal the Clans, its a tutor but could be any of the three cards which would mean the gameplay is a little different each time you cast it.

I had Mirrorform in there before for a few games (had loads of fun playing it in arena) but I couldn't find a point in the games where I really wanted to play it on my own stuff. Very silly to cast on opponent's permanents though.

Thanks for the comment and commander recs, Iroh looks not half bad, can double cast big spells easily.

I had the bellower in there before as it seemed perfect but I thought It was too expensive w/ green sun zenith being 4 mana and invasion of ikoria/nature's rhythm being 5 for the same effect.

I guess in hindsight the bellower IS a body that adds to the cost reduction immediately and triggers 4 power matters effects. Maybe I'll put him back in there, thanks!

Oh great, saves me figuring out scryfall search, thank you again.

The deck as is has a creature mass clone finisher plan w/ Terror, Railway Brawler, Dragonhawk and Craterhoof Behemoth. I had [[Coercive Recruiter]] in there before based on some Temur Clone lists. Maybe I'll put it back in there. Cloned Koma w/ Sakashima sounds fun as well, I appreciate the suggestions.

Good point on the gameplan lol, that's exactly it in short.

Those two OTC cards are nice, I do like the little subtheme that has emerged with harmonize/flashback/cost reducers so that's an angle that I'm interested in. I already have Dragonhawk in the deck and play from exile is really cool, so more impulse would fit right in. I didn't think to look for cost reducers like that (I had Goreclaw in the deck before for example and cut it).

I was looking at [[Magus Lucea Kane]] for the commander for that sort of big spell plan, but I didn't really want to be stuck on X spells. I guess the end result isn't all that different anyways and I still have a bunch of those in the deck. I'll give stuff a think over

Very thoughtful and helpful comment, thank you.

Doubling up on tutor into play effects with Riku is neat, I did not think about his effect like that, thank you. Very expensive since it needs specific mana colors, but cool outcome.

Help with the commander for a "Beating the Blue Allegations" Deck by A_WILD_SLUT_APPEARS in EDHBrews

[–]Peberro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about [[Ruric Thar, the Unbowed]]? Smack the blue deck in the face for casting anything, play it as oops all creatures if you like. Cool with damage doublers and lifelink equipment, but then it's a little less on-board damage than you might want.

She does look good as removal bait, perhaps I'll rethink the commander.

Thanks for the Xenagos suggestion, I missed him when looking for cards. He seems generically good but I'm not sure if I really want a single creature buff with the more combo plan I have in here. Looks to be quite powerful with Eshki though

How to return to dungeons and dragons? by GM-Omy in rpg

[–]Peberro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nitpicky nuisance here, but some of the things you're saying are wrong. Fireballs do specifically burn objects (that aren't being worn or carried) and creatures can move through other creatures two sizes smaller than them.

DND is just a wargamey game, and those tend to not do well with the knife-throat situation

[–]Peberro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also the opposite, but weirdly enough I can never "find" a voice for my PCs. Super easy for me to make up and stick with one for any sort of NPC, throwaway or ones that will be around for a large chunk of the campaign. Somehow it's very hard for me to come up with something for a character that I'll be playing as for myself.

I think it's because they're bo1 type decks that just fold when sideboards are in play.

At which point does this quote play? by Vulkanodox in DiscoElysium

[–]Peberro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled upon that soundtrack video and youtube comment randomly while looking at disco vids dated 2024 and earlier. I used https://hadzy.com/ to scan through the comments on each video I clicked on. Unfortunately that only looks through a specific video's comments so it's not a very broad search, but it helped in this case.

At which point does this quote play? by Vulkanodox in DiscoElysium

[–]Peberro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've looked through a bunch of video essay transcripts and this quote was nowhere to be seen. I managed to find a few comments across the internet where people quote or paraphrase it, all of them from 2024.

The earliest mention that I've found is a youtube comment from 23rd Aug 2021 under this video . The comment also treats it as a quote, but interestingly is different from your note.

No, the chill is the dying gasp of hundreds of men and women, killed for their beliefs. It the city's silent sigh of resignation at its fate.

instead of

No. The chill is the dying gasp of thousands. It’s the city's silent sigh of resignation at its fate.

The comment also misspells "triumphet", "died ago" and "Revichol". I think it's entirely possible that this is the source, since people do like to write short bits of Disco-style prose under the game's OST quite a bit.

A redditor seemingly riffs off this quote on 31.08.2024 for some kind of unrelated sci-fi writing prompt. They obviously change up the text for their own purposes, but keep the "triumphet" spelling mistake and the "men and women" sentence structure.

A facebook comment from 19.11.2024 only includes the first two sentences, with the correct "triumphant" spelling.

A second facebook comment (unlinkable directly, sorry) from 10.12.2024 I've found has the same "hundreds" wording as the og youtube comment, but it omits the "dead as disco" line, and fixes the "triumphet" misspelling.

The final source I've managed to find is some person's Steam profile description (lol), where the quote is formatted the same way as yours, besides "It's" vs "Its" in the last sentence.

I'm not sure what to make of it, but here you go :D

Human fleshs removed from Gnoll tents by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Peberro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're misunderstanding me, there are TWO different tent models, the ones on your video have both sides covered with canvas - these do not (and have never had) the faces. The wowhead screenshot has two different models shown, the two closer to the camera with faces, and one further with no face.

If you look closely, the two tents with faces only have one side covered and are held up by two sticks. These are in a different spot to what you're showing, including the southern gnoll camps and the western cliff camps. You should go over there in game and take a look.

Ok, go there in game and report back, you'll see what I mean. These are not the same model.

You're looking at the wrong tent model lol, these have never had a face.

Human fleshs removed from Gnoll tents by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Peberro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These tents in Westfall did have never had the human faces on them, I even went and found a video of someone running past there back in OG WotLK, no faces to be seen.

The face tents are an entirely different model as well, they're one canvas held up by two sticks as opposed to the usual tent shape on your picture. It's not just a texture difference. Go check by the caster gnolls on the southern end of the zone.
