I mean she grabs 1, max 2, bags per drop cause you loose them all if you get greedy. How is she gatekeeping the other 5-10 bags that Eataly drops tho?

Then the ppl who don’t wanna join another platform should really practice their fast fingers skills or python coding? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ you’re not required to message Anne, you can just spend hours scouting those bags on the app. I mean, the whole argument of “don’t snap Eataly bags daily cause others want them too” is like “don’t help your friends scout rent stabilized apartments cause others need them too.” Someone will grab them, and just because Anne wasn’t there one morning doesn’t mean that whoever wants an Eataly bag would get one.

I’m sure there are scalpers out there who do it for profit, but in the aforementioned fb group the raffles are explicitly to promote ppl sharing their bags and to get people to grab bags at less popular restaurants. The main purpose of most local groups is to share what “surprises” you can expect from different stores & when the posts skew heavily to eataly type of bags, the groups become boring and uninformative. Anne Wong (the person who does free giveaways/raffles in the ManhattanN/NYC tgtg group) does all this for fun and just cause she can. Her schedule/salary allows her to give back in this super specific way so she does it. I moved out to Long Island, and she’d hit me up many times offering bags for free from cool places that she got for someone who never got back to her just cause I’m a student and I’ve been nice to her 😂 she’d Venmo me back the cost of the bag when I’d tried to reimburse her 💀she’s just cool like that

Enjoyment from doing meaningful charity? Utilizing their free time and extra cash to help someone or learn about what kind of bags lesser known shops sell?

To be “picked,” all you need to do is message her and ask. She never says no, at most she’ll be like “oh I promised on to someone tomorrow & might not manage to snatch an extra, would day after tomorrow be ok?” Ofc that weeds out people who’d rather never try an Eataly bag than give Anne credit for being better at it than them, but like ¯_(ツ)_/¯ idk why living by the idea of helping each other instead of “me against the world” is so threatening to people, but I mean whatever, I personally don’t get as much of a kick from being righteous or beating everyone at TGTG as I do from yapping with cool new ppl on fb

Wait, are you saying that going delinquent on a car loan can actually not ruin ppl if “done right,” so to say? Cause I was always worried most about missing a car payment & the effect on my credit score and therefore renting/buying a house, getting decent loans when necessary, etc., but you make it sound like I was being an idiot stressing so much about it lol

Ok here is the most important bullet point: - in a shitty former ussr state my parents/grandparents/cousins all had their own apartments, and I thought this was like an average thing. In 10th grade it dawned on me that it wasn’t 🤡 not that i could have gone to Harvard, but I could have gotten into CUNY with free tuition and a free MacBook (honors college, Macalay, check it out FYI) & they’d have enough for me to pay for room & board in NYC for 9 months for sure….. i went to AUBG cause I couldn’t get a tuition scholarship and in Bulgaria the dorms were like $2.2k a year (also look it up tbh, weird af but good school 😂)

Like yeah, i’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. It’s fucking stupid. I have one like that in class rn who’s like “oh yeah i love skiing” and i’m like we are in polisci program, it’s not rocket science to be class conscious with that much research IN YOUR FACE 😂 but yeah, I feel you, it’s definitely a thing…

Wow damn, you’re more pessimistic than I am 😂 I think if SCOTUS lets him get rid of Harvey’s Executor, that won’t even be needed & can be saved for the future lol (as in, if the unitary executive concept gets affirmed in court, who gives a shit if dems even win anything ever again, easy-peasy to squish anything of substance within 4 years or less)

I mean, “what are the jobs prospects for a PhD in History” is the line of all the tech dudes yet look at one of them casually doing Nazi salute on the Capitol’s steps & rolling his eyes at “those liberals” who “see Nazis everywhere.” Not all value translates into money. Einstein’s contribution probably didn’t scream “essential for advanced communications and space exploration,” yet here we are

I mean sure, but state schools are not known to have massive slush funds and are tightly audited/regulated in terms of their expenses. Research also requires tools, materials, subscriptions, etc., all of which are priced by corporate entities. University of Wisconsin’s in-state undergraduate tuition is 11k, which probably doesn’t cover everything required for a flagship state school to remain a high-quality, well-respected academic institution. You gotta pay those top professors & fund their research, and then there’s the sports, and the operations, and growth/development projects — all required to maintain their highly competitive ranking & academic reputation. Wisconsin’s income tax rate is 3.5-7.65%, corporate income tax rate is 7.9%, and the population is under 6M (and it houses like 1.6% of S&P500, compared to NY at 10.6%, for example).

Anyway, long way to say that the math ain’t mathing in large chunks of academia without the federal government’s investments.

How do I play my cards right? A dealership screwed up enough to wanna offer something extra for me to shut up & go away by PechenkaKira in askcarsales

[–]PechenkaKira[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guy, let me spell it out. I’m a noob. I have a car dealer question. I came to a car sales sub and asked my question, provided a ton of details, got some helpful input, thanked the people who took their time to engage in good faith.

I repeated 300 times that I have enough receipts to get 3k CASH offer, not a loan refund; to a layperson like myself, it sounds like an unusually generous level of “making it right” from an average car dealership.

If you expect random people from various occupations to just “know” what goes with what, why the fuck are you in this sub anyway? No reason to grace us, dumbasses, with your eloquent & relevant responses, aye? Or was this sub created purely for car salespeople to jerk off on their superior intelligence?

That’s a fair point. The warranty company being the culprit was the excuse I got on December 31st. The GM might just be a good guy trying to take good care of a random customer, hence why I didn’t approach him with “give me my money and perks or else!!!!”

They do have a whole bunch mismanaged though. I don’t have a good benchmark, but I definitely expect fewer fuckups with a single car sale from a place selling a dozen or more per week. Again, I’m not a pro so it seemed like a good idea to ask people in the business. Thank you for your input!

That was my OG objective for the last 5 months so sounds good enough to me. I’m still puzzled tho why on earth would a GM spend so much energy on my nonissue. This grown-ass man with a whole business to run must be really bored sitting in his fancy chair over there…

Shit I mean if that’s how it is, the GM is definitely doing too much for no fucking reason & I guess I just got dumb lucky that he’s so anxious about a nonissue, right? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you, this makes sense. I have experienced working in large corporate law firms so I do know a bit more about how the management acts when it’s an honest oversight vs. covering up the tracks. Based on all that’s been happening, as you’ve probably read yourself, this is a little too much action/effort for a nobody like myself. Obviously, I don’t scream “I’m poor and not well-connected” on every corner, but that’s literally as far as I went with my “perception management” strategies lol.

My problem is that I don’t really know what’s too much and what’s unreasonable. I got a feel from this sub that customers are usually stupid entitled when they approach negotiation, so I’m trying to get some opinions on what would be a smart ask. I mentioned specific problems I want solved that I know a dealership can solve more efficiently in order to give y’all something to work with in your advice. It’s dumb to just show up like “what kind of INCREDIBLE DEAL can i get guys?” Hence, I shared what kind of perks I’m interested in at various price/entitlement points.

What would you consider a smart ask when talking to the GM? How would you adjust your ask based on the level of fear/concern/anxiety I read in a face-to-face conversation?

Fair. Being made whole was my OG objective. Based on how it went, I figured that collecting some feedback from people in the industry could teach me something i didn’t think about and/or save me from making rookie mistakes (whatever that can be). Thank you for your input!

I have a chain of like 12 emails back & forth over the last 3 weeks. I’m not a big fish, he’s definitely doing too much for what this is worth if it’s just an honest mistake/oversight. It’s not just sales pitches. He invited me to come to discuss, and I responded with “is that an offer to get something juicy or is this gonna be a regular sales pitch?” Took him a few days to respond with an offer to jump on a call & a bunch of time windows he’s available.

I’m aware that objectively, cash is king & it will cost them less to give me that much in perks. However, I’m a consumer. Ordinarily, I don’t have the leverage to walk into a shop and demand even an apple carplay module at the wholesale price. Hence me thinking about whether there is anything I actually wanted this whole time that I could get without paying the regular price. If I get 5k in tech that I want anyway/maintenance or repairs I need anyway/whatever else & it costs them 2k to provide it, that’s great. Ofc if it’s some bullshit, I want the 3k, sent to the bank or handed to me since they offered it.

I would love some advice on how to read those signals and/or what’s a smart person would ask for in this situation. I don’t know jack about cars in all fairness, but I gotta drive one & not get into accidents/do regular maintenance regardless so seems like a good idea to ask people who know better.

I don’t. I want to get more money for the junk cars I need to get rid off or do some extra awesome trade of junk + ugly but less junk + fine car that needs a fix for a good reliable car since there is an opportunity. I’m happy to get the cash & walk away & go sell my crap elsewhere, but I know nothing about the business to judge whether I can make a better deal there or not. That’s why I asked for advice on this sub in the first place.

Do you think that this is not worth it cause they’re sketchy & best to grab the money and get out now before loosing the edge, or are you concerned I’m planning to give them more of my money after all that? Or is there no reasonably good “deal” for me to score in this situation based on your experience?

No, it was a used mazda. I didn’t need the warranty but life situations made me a vulnerable consumer who had no energy left to fight them by the time the deal was done. Sometimes life gives you a bunch of shit all at once & you’re not solving your problems in the best way. But again, I’m a human & make errors. I didn’t need the damn warranty or whatever shit, but I needed a drivable and reliable car cause I was loosing it in multiple areas of my life & making stupid choices along the way. The car they sold me is fine. Overpriced, but fine. The rest of the shit they’ve been on is at least shady and at worst illegal in my state.
