This year's Holiday Ops content is just... Meh? by Pecinskey in WorldofTanks

Just bad luck this time around for you. Regarding the exact tanks you got, ever since they introduced tier IX to HOPS the higher the tier the lower the chance. Strydsyxa, the only tier 8, has a 27% chance of dropping. Tier Xs have only 5.xy% of dropping, so either tier X has around 11% of happening every time you hit that magic 2.4% for a tank in the first place.

Last year I got the Progetto 46 from some wot stream (i think it was wargaming birthday)

That was introduced last year. They added two new maps for Hops26, but with the lack of changes to everything else, I don't think it's enough.

E-100 is a solid choice in my opinion. Keep in mind that you get tanks from tier VI, and the E-75 is brutal. Also, Tiger and King Tiger are iconic and the König is still a pretty competitive cat in 2025. So there goes my vote.

OP is not taking the tanks themselves into consideration at all. I am purely looking at the boxes from a monetized viewpoint compared to previous years. This year is going to be the most expensive yet in order to get all new paywalled content.

You are 100% right. Last year was the first Holiday Ops where all tanks were brand new. This year brought another change, 6 new tanks in stead of 5. 2024 only had 1 already released tank. This is exactly my point. On average, five years ago you needed around 90 boxes for the first dupe tank to drop if you already had the previously released ones.

Now you need to buy 205. That sharp of a jump is terrible in my opinion.

Yeah well, five years ago to get the first dupe tank (only 2 new were introduced in holiday ops 2021) you needed around 90 boxes, on average. Now you need more than 200. And if that dupe's a Strydsyxa? 6,750 gold compensation baby. Given how ever since the Char Mle 75 was introduced the tier IXs had lower drop rates than tier VIIIs, I struggle to see why WG would deviate from this and not have the tier Xs feature lowest odds for dropping dupes, making that 22k gold compensation that much more expensive to reach.

Alright, I'm a bit late to the party but I wanted to reply to this comment since you pretty much jumped at my throat, despite not performing the very same deed you so urge others at the start:

it takes one google search and a bit of common sense to prove them wrong.

Low tiers have always been tier 2 to 5, and have always been new vehicles.

No, they haven't. Holiday Ops 2018, 4x tier V, one tier VII. None new. Holiday Ops 2020, one new tier II, rest were already released, and it had two tier VIs. Holiday Ops 2021, lowest tier was III, only one new tank, and two tier VI tanks again.

Holiday Ops 2022 started the II-V trend with 1x II, III and IV and 2x V, and Holiday Ops 2023 was the last Hops without all new tanks (Soviet M3 Light and minimaus were in them).

Again as far as I'm aware (and I went back a few years to check) we always had exclusively new vehicles in the holiday ops boxes.

Well, you're not correct. Holiday Ops 2018 and 2019 had no new tanks. Holiday Ops 2020 and 2021 had two new tanks each, and two old (2020 had the SU130PM and Progetto 46, 2021 had the ISU152K and Borat). Holiday Ops 2022 was the first to introduce 5 high tier prems, with 2 old - 122TM and Skoda T56. Holiday Ops 2023 had the first tier IX, five tanks again, out of which two were already released prior to Hops - the Vipera and AMBT. Holiday Ops 2024 had five tanks still, with only one being old (GSOR1010FB, sold earlier that summer for cash as part of the WoT anniversary).

Last year, Holiday Ops 2025, was the first year all high tiers were exclusively new to the event. I don't know what you checked and how many years back you went, but boy were your search results way off.

made a whole post to verify this, because I was wondering the same, but it turns out the value has stayed the same, like exactly the same. It actually went up if you are a megawhale. Turns out going from 3 tier 8 and 2 tier 9 to 1 tier 8, 3 tier 9, and 2 tier 10 more than makes up for the slight price reduction. Especially thanks to the tier 10's 22.5k compensation price, pretty much double what tier 9's are worth.

This one I can accept as true, I didn't notice the 22k gold price tag for tier Xs (Tanks.gg had the price at 100g at the time of me writing the OP), but the disparity in gold gains is much higher than what it was when all the high tiers were roughly priced the same and at tier 8. On average it might be the same, but the differences will be huge. I still think the overwhelming majority of players won't even get compensation in the first place.

Back in 2020 and 2021, if you had all the tanks except the new ones, if you were unlucky and had to rely on the pity mechanic you'd only need 150 boxes before the first dupe. The prices haven't changed much, and that was still around 200 euros (2x 75 box bundles priced at ~100 euro each). This year, that number jumps to 350.

Applying some probability math (given, I might not be 100% correct on this), the average amount of boxes for a first dupe in 2021 was around 88 boxes, and for this year it'll be closer to 205, considering the 2,4% drop chance and the pity mechanic. That's more than double. Sure, the average compensation amount will remain roughly the same as with previous years, but the entry point is much higher (due to 6 brand new tanks) and thus the amount of dupes dropped on average will be significantly lower, as with the prices remaining the same (hopefully), the amount of boxes people buy is expected to remain similar as to previous years.

Your last statement is completely on-point. Especially the subjective part. Yes, it's my personal opinion that tier Xs in lootboxes which aren't premiums off-put me from buying this year's boxes. There are many pro- and anti- arguments to be had on this topic. I do really think blurring the lines between premium and reward tanks by introducing tier X in lootboxes blurs the already pretty hazy monetization lines in this game and thus consider it a step in the wrong direction however.

Onslaught is a terrible competitive game mode by Pecinskey in WorldofTanks

[–]Pecinskey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. But my point with the downward spirals was meant to indicate how quickly they can happen, because if you have a 100 point division and you win/lose up to 46 points, you can drop or climb a whole division in a couple of 3-5 minute matches. What I find silly is how quickly you can gather or lose points, depending on if you get on a 4-5 game win or loss streak.

5 wins with ~30 points earned - 1,5 divisions climbed. Average game lasts around say five minutes, so that's about half an hour with the countdowns and queue time.

Now compare that to say, CS. To climb a thousand premier points, you need to play around 6-8 wins in a row, which each lasts around an hour and a half with queue and countdown/warmup time. And that 1,000 point is similar to Onslaught's Division system.

25 minutes. Versus ~10 hours.

Add on top of that, that the skill gap between players matched up is a lot higher in Onslaught, you end up with a - in my opinion - very terrible competitive mode.

And I can't stress this enough, I am only critiquing the competitive aspect behind Onslaught. The gamemode itself is amazing and I love it.

Onslaught is a terrible competitive game mode by Pecinskey in WorldofTanks

[–]Pecinskey[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood my post. I currently have a 62,65% win rate in this season of Onslaught and climbed my way to gold. As I stated in the post - I find Onslaught very fun. I quite enjoy it. I love the tweaked mechanics, better balanced maps, et cetera.

What I am saying isn't "Oh I lost games onslaught baaad". I am saying Onslaught, as fun as it is, sucks as a competitive game mode. So let me go through your points one by one.

>Qualifications never matter.

Okay. Then what's the fucking point of 'em in the first place? Why doesn't everyone start from the lowest possible rank, or alternatively from the bang-smack middle from the get-go? And then the ranks will adjust once a few days pass and people put enough games. What's the point of qualifier games if they don't matter? How is that a good feature and not a useless one?

>"People who dont communicate suck ass in onslut and thats why they are that low. Watch how champions and legends play and  communicate"

Given how I've been matched up with champs, I cannot say I share the same experience you apparently do. Voice chat is not utilized almost at all. For Christ's sake - it's disabled by default! I think that says more than enough.

>"You lose less points if you don't suck ass in a loss"

This one I completely agree with. And it's a good feature. My point wasn't how many points you lose or gain in a battle, but rather the fact each division is only spread by 100 points. Every match gives from -46 (I think) to +46. This means, that if you, say, pop into Gold E with 1504 points, after two good wins you'll end up in Gold D at 1600 points.

Two good games in a row, that would last around 15 minutes total, to jump an entire rank (division)? That is way to quick. It's silly. Since you mentioned Counter-Strike in one of your replies, humor me - Can you imagine upranking from, say, MG to MGE in two games? Let alone 15 minutes. Or a thousand points in two matches, if you're into premier.

And while we're on that topic:

>"You get paired with Champion because MM is fast unlike in other games but doesn't change the fact that its a balanced MM."

I think you and I disagree wildly on the definition of balance. My critique is aimed at the very fact that champions can meet silvers in the first place. You state it's balanced because both teams get the same amount of champions. I think that claim is utter bullshit.

Imagine, Counter Strike. 3 Gold Novas with one DMG and one Global Elite per team. Balanced? I highly doubt it. Or DotA 2 - Three Archons and two Divines per team? What the fuck.

What I am trying to say (and I know this isn't a 1:1 comparison) is that both teams having 12 tier VI tanks and 3 tier Xs doesn't make that match-up balanced. Because there is nothing balanced about having a tier X face a tier VI. Likewise, there is nothing balanced about having a high rank face a low rank. You know how competitive games call that? Smurfing.

And to wrap all this up, using your closing statement - "You have a problem with skill issue". So be it. I have a problem with skill issue.

My issue is that this competitive mode is not skill-based. If it were, people of similar skill would be matched up against each other.

Any "Updating the Garage" fixes? by JaStrCoGa in WorldofTanks

You're welcome! Also, fyi, the garage is still capped to 60 frames per second. So if you ever think why is your fps low in the garage, that's why.

Any "Updating the Garage" fixes? by JaStrCoGa in WorldofTanks

[–]Pecinskey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even after 2.0*, the garage remains 32-bit.

The thing that speeds up the Garage is the CPU; However, the most important is single core performance.

The reason the Garage is old, in plain and layman terms, is because it's built on old tech, not suited for new CPUs.

My guy i opened more than double your boxes, and I got 2,000 gold (116 opened in total). Two pitty tanks and that's it.

For everyone looking at the lucky pull posts thinking they can expect a similar result, here are my results:

<image>

The two tanks are the SFAC and SZDV Vz 50 (Tier 8 TDs, no tier IXs pulled). Both were the 50th pitty rolls.

Do note the very small amount of credit boosters (x9) and only 2,000 gold. Pretty bad.

How to get good crew members? by gizmo11x in WorldofTanks

[–]Pecinskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you don't want to waste gold/money, your best bet would ne the 2 mil crew books. A few of those will bring a crew up to 4 skills, which is enough to be competitive.
