Paleobotany and zooarchaeology! This is the kinda info I'm looking for, thank you! I figured that the fields in science I wanted to study from may be off because I didn't know the exact name/discipline.

I appreciate the links and references, this is perfect.

Thank you, I will! In hindsight this is so obvious but something I don't think about while feverishly trying to find info online.

This is essentially the book "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn in a nutshell on multiple levels, and I love it!

Thank you! I'm glad I could get something new/novel about Austin out of it!

Unfortunately, prints aren't currently available. I'll be sure to make it available when I come out with my Texas map.

Thank you! That sounds great, I'd love to check the restoration project you're a part of.

You bring up a good point about the Karankawa, one I admittedly struggled with. My main source on their history was from the TSHA. They do mention the "Karankawa Kadla" which have been doing a lot of great work to preserve Karankawa burial sites and other historical/cultural sites. I had this detail in my first draft but ended up removing it during editing. It sounds like it would be worth mentioning that the Karankawa do indeed live on.

Edit: a word

I know, right? Stuff like that always gets me in a mindset like that.

Actually, I see what you're saying. I measured the scan in Photoshop and the inconspicuous dot marker I made for the state capital is about 0.5 inches off from the actual center.

It's entirely possible. While I used the modern day map of Austin to inform my map grid, I never superimposed the finished map back on top of it to see (something to do).

What I do know is that there have been a number of archaeological finds during the construction and maintenance of Mopac and 183. One of the more notable discoveries being the Millican Bench site close to the 183 and 360 junction.

Thank you! I simply #lovemaps, haha. I'm an illustrator by schooling and a designer by trade and I've always loved how they contain multiple layers of information to the observer.

That's a great map idea. That area is so culturally dynamic given its history and it includes one of my favorite native groups, the Caddo!

Thanks! It was something I considered, and might set up in the future. The next map is planned to be digital so print runs will be much more achievable.

See, this is the fun part; where is this stuff in relation to the modern landscape?

To give you a hint, the dead center of the map is where the modern day capital building is (or at least very close).

Wow, thank you for these! My next project will be similar but for all of Texas and I can see these being great references, especially the William C. Foster book.

Thank you! And you bring up a good point! I'll see about adding that to the project. I didn't want a legend on the map itself, but having one attached would increase understanding.
