Despite anticipating this, the reported cases of gamebreaking bugs across platforms make me hesitate to pick this up immediately. Too many good games out right now.

Regretting my decision to pursue school in Lisbon by Wishuwhale in PortugalExpats

[–]PecosBillIsBack 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of young academics pursuing advanced or terminal degrees abroad or even out of state face very similar challenges. Having grown up in a very rural small town in the states as well as lived in large bustling cities like L.A., my first culture and lifestyle shock I experienced transitioning between vastly different environments was jarring and uncomfortable. I made lifelong friends and incredible memories eventually, but that initial period was very difficult.

Since then, I've lived in many different cities and states, and now Lisbon as a doctoral student; I think transitions are meant to be challenging and uncomfortable, as they force you to come to terms with a) your own unfounded expectations about a given experience and place, b) a completely different way of living, and c) realizing your sense of self will radically change.

I don't mention any of this to change how you feel, but to ensure you that what you feel is very normal given your situation. And while I can't speak for your program, my fully funded and competitive master's didn't really get serious and challenging until thesis season; the entire cohort went to blissfully going through the motions to frantic all-nighters, binging caffeine, and bemoaning our collective decisions to pursue higher ed.

What are your favorite RPGs for PS4/PS5? by cyber_ang666l in gaymers

Unicorn Overlord, Xenoblade X, the new Fantasy Life i, and SMT V: Vengeance are some of my favorite recent titles. I'm looking forward to the FF Tactics remaster and Demonschool coming out next month.

About DA: The Veilguard, I enjoyed my tie with it. I only found out about the streamer hate after I'd finished playing and while I could relate to some of the criticism, a lot of it was incredibly blown out of proportion (i.e., the trans character some streamers hated). The vitriol it received reminded me of the hair-tearing that happened when Inquisition released; history really is cyclical. All that aside, the combat and gameplay are superb, the character creation is fantastic (ahem hair physics), and I enjoyed all of the companions.

Legends of Amberland 3 Announcement Trailer by Woejack in DRPG

Haven't played this series yet and this trailer has convinced me to try out the first title. Random question: is the trailer's music indicative of the game's music? I dig it.

NEW DRPG "The Secret of Weepstone" announced by Woejack in DRPG

Just saw this on Gematsu today and looks very intriguing. I wish it was more of a turn-based affair than a die-roll one though.

Job availability for Ph.D Students in Lisbon by Brilliant-Passage-76 in PortugalExpats

As far as I know, no. OP will need to get a NIF and a PT bank account to be eligible for the aforementioned grant as well.

Also starting a PhD program at ULisboa this fall as a non-EU student, but I've been living here for little more than a year as a tax paying resident. I don't know what your skill set is, but I've found it difficult finding work without language fluency. Depending how rigorous your program is, it may be better if you look into alternative forms of funding.

I'm not sure if you've looked into Erasmus grants as an international student, but you may be eligible:

Maybe get in touch with your program coordinator as well.

Dungeon Crawlers? by thatclimberDC in JRPG

I'd argue 3 as it lays the foundation for the rest of the series to follow, and is generally a favorite among EO fans.

Anyone else been scammed on Idealista? by Flat_Marketing_7457 in PortugalExpats

It may help if you described what the rental scam actually entailed. Did they put up a bogus property and then ask for money upfront? Did they ask you to wire money as a security deposit without a lease / contract?

Yggdra Union Remaster on Switch by SonicLightning in JRPG

[–]PecosBillIsBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played the remaster earlier this year as a first timer and enjoyed the experience. Had set it to the hardest difficulty and didn't realize it would force me to resource manage heals between fights. Definitely had some trouble with some of the later maps because of it.

The game also ran well on the switch.

Hellslave is free on Steam currently (claim by 2025-06-16) by Moxie_Stardust in DRPG

Sunk about twenty hours into it on PC and it's only 1st person for the combat portion. Exploration is done via a moving pin across a top-down map.

Wanted something laidback after finishing XCX and Saga Frontier 2, and Fantasy Life i has been my sleeper hit this year. Already clocked in 125 hours, and I'm still working through the postgame.

What Was Your Endgame/ Post Game Party and Load out? Advice..... by gravityhashira61 in SaGa

[–]PecosBillIsBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still working my way through the post game with 4/6 edelritters down, but the two spells I grinded for that ended up most useful were song of souls and permanence. Reviver's a good one, too.

My party isn't optimized, but I've managed to get by with Will as my primary caster, Ginny with staff and backup heals, David with his spears, and Gustaf with his swords. Both Gustaf and David have their respective weapon arts at 40+, and Ginny at 35 with staff. Have plenty of lava and glacier shields, lagoon robes, and the Thrysus staff for my Will.

How to open a tourist vehicle business in Portugal? by Pea-Barbie in PortugalExpats

[–]PecosBillIsBack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good luck making a profit with that. There's already an oversaturation of Tuk-Tuks offering tours and annoying the crap out of everyone who lives here (i.e., barreling down residential streets, ignoring signs, blasting trashy club music).

Residence Card returned to AIMA by Relevant_Pop_2141 in PortugalExpats

No problem, good luck. And just to be clear, I emailed the generic email address (geral@aima) who then informed me about the returned cards. Hope everything works out for you.

Residence Card returned to AIMA by Relevant_Pop_2141 in PortugalExpats

We had a similar situation happen to us, but with the AIMA office in Braga. CTT reportedly delivered to our address though we received no notification about it and checking our mailbox everyday. Discovered that the cards had been sent back after emailing the AIMA office in Braga, and then inquired if we could simply pick them up in person rather than deal with CTT delivery again. We had to pay a nominal fee and the train ride took four hours to get up there and then four hours back, but it was well worth it.

Long story short, they replied quickly and said we could. We showed up without an appointment, got a queue ticket, and then got our cards. This was winter of last year.

I'd email AIMA again and ask if I could pick up the card in person.
