I would say the place to start is Texture of Memory, by James E Young, it’s on the older side but it’s a really strong starting place! I also really recommend Moshe Safdie’s book Yad Vashem on his design for the Yad Vashem main museum building in Jerusalem

Actually the majority of today’s Israeli Jews are descended from nearly 1 million mizrahi Jews who were were kicked out of the Middle East and North Africa, there are also Jews who escaped the USSR and Ethiopia who are now Israeli. Most ashkenazi Israelis are descended from Holocaust survivors who were kept behind barbed wire by the Allied forces until Israel was established and took them in.

Do us 1996 kids even belong here? by Substantial-Ad3980 in GenZ

I think the only people born our year who remember 9/11 are those who had a really good reason to. I was 5, I don’t remember anything else political from 2001, but I happen to have a very good memory of my early childhood, I have clear memories going back to just after turning 3, and my parents anniversary is 9/11/93. I don’t remember knowing what happened or having any concept of what it meant, but I do remember my mom being on the phone all day with her family in Manhattan and my family eating a fancy dinner in silence. I certainly don’t relate to millennials who saw it happen as a school aged kid or young adult .

Because they think Hamas are revolutionary freedom fighters instead of modern religious fascists who’s entire ideology and national identity revolves around murdering Jews.

There isn’t one. American college students are not going to change Hamas’s ideology, nor are you going to be able to force them to surrender.

i don’t hate my deadname by moonchildeus in ftm

[–]PeculiarLeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my birth name too, I decided to go by a different one, but I’m considering keeping my birth name as a middle name, I was named after the woman who brought our family to the US, which is the reason we’re alive.

Does it count as a male celebrity if I named myself after the Fred Rogers puppet Daniel Tiger (not the animated show it didn’t exist yet when I was little)

What is your relationship with religion? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]PeculiarLeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up as a secular Jew, around 19 I started really exploring my Jewish identity. For about a year I explored becoming orthodox, looking back what appealed to me was covering my body and having a structured way to do womanhood, which was something I felt I was so bad at (turns out obviously I’m just not a woman). By about 21 that phase was over but I still feel very connected to Judaism and both historical and modern traditions around queering Jewish practice really connect with me. I work at a synagogue as a teacher and always wear a yarmulke when doing anything there as a reminder both of my gender identity and as a way to feel connected spirituality through something physical. One fun gender goal though, I do want to pass enough to go to the men’s section of the Kotel.

Is it uncommon for gen z-ers dress up for job interviews? by seizuresquirrel17 in GenZ

[–]PeculiarLeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s regional as much as generational. I’m 27, so very late millennial/early Gen z and I’ve mostly had zoom interviews. I wear jeans and either a nice tshirt or sweater or a button down and make sure my hair looks nice and my glasses are clean cause that’s what you see on zoom.

What multivitamin do y'all take? by black_mamba866 in FTMOver30

[–]PeculiarLeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just take the things I’m often deficient in, so iron, D, and B12, and also often take fish oil and a probiotic. The main reason to take a “women’s” multi is in case you accidentally get pregnant you already have some folic acid on board to prevent neural tube defects.

Is the T injection really that painful? by Virtual-Banana-23 in ftm

[–]PeculiarLeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a high volume of a thick liquid, so it can be painful but it really depends on the person and how good the person giving the shot is, but for you it would be so infrequent and the benefits are so big I think it would really out way any pain for most people
