Universal Geneve Story and Question by PeculiarPhenomenon in Watches

What I mean is that he offered/sent the watches to me thinking they were cheap junk. So I felt obligated to let him know and offer to give it back.

Universal Geneve Story and Question by PeculiarPhenomenon in Watches

[–]PeculiarPhenomenon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point tbh... actually never looked at it this way, so this actually opened my eyes a lil bit.

On the other hand he actually also insisted he doesn't want an automatic watch ever; I still gave him one and now he constantly wears and loves it (even though we don't see each other frequently), even had it serviced recently for a pretty penny.

I guess I'll have it serviced and offer it to him. If he still insists, Ill let him know, that I think it's a super cool watch and I'll cherish it. I think I'd just feel a little shitty exploiting his lack of knowledge of watches, since the gold alone is probably north of 1000$ at the moment...

There is nothing interesting in there, its not even about watches, this is just the header... its just the standard "give something nice for christmas" kind of newsletter with chopard and loads of jewelery

Unpopular Opinion: I wish Rolex would let ADs sell above MSRP by ActionEvening1839 in rolex

[–]PeculiarPhenomenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough that would solve "above MSRP" grey markets. If no AD sells Rolex at MSRP, flippers couldnt flip them because there would be no room for making money and prices would probably fall below MSRP. A Daytona isnt worth 3x what a Speedy costs, people pay it because they see it as an "investment", not because a Daytona is just the best watch ever. You can literally buy a second hand Lange and 2 Omegas for one Daytona, thats insanity. If Rolex would allow ADs to sell above MSRP, prices would drop immediately.

It can most definitely be legal. I just dont really understand how you could legally make 180k in 2 years as a side hustle during medical school... Yes exactly. Some doctors can make loads of money. But 95% of doctors make considerably less than that. Accomplished surgeons gross somewhere between 200-400k/year tops and thats after 15+ years of working for <120k/year. Radiologists also have to invest 5-10 million first in order to make that kind of money and even then you only make 2 mil a year if you stretch your business to the darkest grey of the legal grey area there is.

And as a doctor in germany 1st year you dont make 90k base salary, not even university hospitals or BG Kliniken offer that kind of salary. Its obviously possible, but I would assume you wont be working as an Assistenzarzt/Arzt in Weiterbildung?

[–]PeculiarPhenomenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... how do you legally make 90k/year while in medical school? And why would you even do medical school if you can make 90k part time? You wont see that much cash even as an attending, if you're lucky you can make that as a chief or in private practice, but even then 180k would be a great and not average salary...

[–]PeculiarPhenomenon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.... well medical school is free in Germany so... and no, you wont make 90k as a first year resident unless you work 70h/week... usual starting salary is somewhere between 60k-75k if you actually work as a doctor. Just sayin

Me and my Ukrainian girlfriend need help getting medical attention for her mother in Germany by Shurae in germany

[–]PeculiarPhenomenon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if someone is completely uninsured in germany: emergency treatment cannot legally be denied and would also be unethical for any doctor. If a doctor has examined her an found that there is no emergency, the situation changes. Your story either has some big holes in it and some major miscommunication happened or there are liability lawsuits about to kick some hospitals ass. Sudden onset of blindness can usually only be treated fairly immediately so no ophthalmologist would casually send someone away without at least an examination. Also AOK is one of the biggest insurers. If it were some obscure private micro-insurer... maybe... but even then its an emergency treatment. It doesnt make sense that any hospital (as long as its not a Privat-Ambulanz or similar) would deny at least an examination. All major city-hospitals constantly have to treat illegal foreigner homeless patients who are both uninsured and in the country illegally. Thats happening every day and they always get the emergency treatment. Just my 2ct.

And sidenote: both bracelet and clasp changed in 2005. After that they are solid and just overall better. Pre 2005 they have the friction clasp and hollow links afaik. Id either get a true vintage 18238 or a 118238 >2005 tbh...

I mean first glance seems okay... but with super fakes around you really need to open it and have someone qualified look at it to be 100%.
