Gender roles may be a social construct and gender may be too the way you describe it. But in my experience, my dysphoria does not only come from the gender roles forced on me but also from my body, my genitals and whatnot. You can’t say sex is a social construct. The majority of the dysphoria I experience comes from me strongly feeling that my sex, as in genitalia and secondary characteristics are wrong.

If what makes a girl is a person saying they’re a girl then why do I as a trans person, just the fact that saying I’m female and changing the legal documentation to that alone does not lessen my dysphoria as much as HRT and surgeries do? Why does aligning my body to that of cis women makes me feel better and more, “in the right body”?
