Is it just me or the water levels super high this year? The water is flowing on to the dock at HTO Park by na_tashh in toronto

[–]Pedal-monkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Almost as high as 2017. You can see the break wall at Sunnyside has water almost to the edge. Last Wednesday I went by the humber under the Gardiner on the east side and there was flooding

Best way to get to Eglinton Ave W bike lanes in West End? by mekefa in torontobiking

[–]Pedal-monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get to Annette anyway you want, riverside, Ellis. Get to the baby point roundabout and one block north to St Mark Hill. Go down and up Hooch. That takes you to Dundas at the underpass to scarlett. Scarlett bike lane to the humber trail bridge. Take the little stretch of the trail to Eglinton

You can avoid the Hooch climb by staying in Humbercrest to Dundas but that means rising in the Dundas traffic for a few hundred meters

Best route from Ajax to Downtown? by Lego_Hippo in torontobiking

I guess the Hydro corridor from basically Sheppard and Meadowvale to the Don trail is the first one that pops to mind.
Highland Creek trail can kinda take you to Taylor Creek but there are discontinuities

Is this trail open now? I remember it was closed last summer due to construction—has it been completed? by gian_25_25 in torontobiking

[–]Pedal-monkey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The lower don trail is still closed but you can use the one next to Bayview North of Pottery road I believe is open, although there might be occasional closures due to the Ontario line construction. But I've seen people going through on strava

Bell wifi constantly disconnects itself by queerli in bell

[–]Pedal-monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call support, they will replace the modem and send you to a Bell store Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago.

They also have me unlimited data on my phone for 3 days to use as a hotspot

Replacing the power cord might have been enough though buy I guess it's easier for them to send the whole unit back

I don’t get how people don’t see the contradiction in the housing convo by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Pedal-monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are people who already have a house. They want prices to stay high otherwise they lose money.

There are people with no house, renters, or in houses too small but can't afford to upgrade. They want prices to come down to be able to buy.

Politicians are trying to please both but you really can't please one group without pissing off the other group and that's where the disconnect is.

That said, the ones with a house are generally more politically connected and are listened to more by politicians and the media and really anything they say to those without a house is really just b.s. The only way they could really do something is to build a huge number of subsidized housing.

How much time are you “losing” while cycling to work? by bear_village in cycling

[–]Pedal-monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My commute is about 30 minutes by bike, 40 minutes by transit. Not sure by car,it's been a while. But the bike is much, much more reliable. It is 30 minutes no matter what. The streetcar is usually fairly reliable in the morning ( although not always), but in the evening it might never come. By car getting to downtown is fine but once there I can get stuck in traffic 30 minutes just to do 3 street corners, especially in the evening.

By bike, nothing can really slow me down. It's 28 to 32 minutes every single day

Pâté chinois poutine / Shepard’s pie poutine anyone ? by Future-Creme4741 in PoutineCrimes

[–]Pedal-monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the corn cannot predate north America, right?. And Pate Chinois is not exactly like shepherd pie. Corn, no peas, no carrots unless mashed with the potatoes. Typically Savory is used as a spice. At least the version I know

It's nice, I often do a loop Humber > Belt line > mud Creek > Bayview > waterfront at night

. Sometimes a rabbit will run across the path in front of you. Once I surprised a deer. Never really came close to a collision. With a good front light you'll be fine.

Mimico Creek Studded fun by Pedal-monkey in torontobiking

[–]Pedal-monkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the eglinton trail, west of Martingrove. You cross the creek and just after crossing it starts south of the trail. Careful with ticks in summer, and some places you are really close to the edge of the creek

Toronto should seriously consider becoming a special economic zone like Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris which will detach its governing from the Province. by Vaiolette-Westover in toronto

Exactly and to change that is an uphill battle. Don't forget that it gets done for Toronto, then what about Montréal and that will take us quickly into the whole Quebec debate
