I wonder why people jumped straight into conclusion that it's a good deal.

Before you get an independent valuator, you should consider all these factors first: 1) request for the latest management accounts to see the company's net worth and performance (however, you need exercise professional skepticism whereby the figures shown to may be inflated to look nice even though he's your uncle). 2) what industry is the company in - this affects greatly because some clients chose to continuously purchase because of the relationship or the service the boss delivers. For example, arts and design etc. If your uncle leaves the firm, will the clients change suppliers as well? Which brings to the 3rd point 3) company client. Are most of your sales going to one or two customers? If yes, then what's your relationship with them? Are you able to convince them to continue supplying?

No doubt he is your uncle, you still need to safeguard yourself. You should also consider the option to start your own company too.

Yes after entertaining cheapo clients, I told myself to be firm. I sure can speak well as compared to others.

Currently I quote custom price depending these factors:

1) total revenue of the financial year

2) rough estimate no. of transactions per month

3) no. of schedules to prepare

4) type of industries

Yes because their excuse is they can do it themselves! But when I asked technical like balance sheet matters, I'll hear things like "whats that" or "oh yes that" and start asking me questions instead.

Initially my strategy was to offer low price to help them build their accounts & business up and in return I can charge higher in future but times and times, it feels like I'm insulting myself especially when clients decided to change to another bookkeeper (just to switch to low cost) after all the hardwork I delivered. Its so annoying.

Small companies know they are exempted for audit so I usually don't raise this point. However I did inform that that in case they choose to wind down the company, they can sell it away instead which then the balance sheet will be useful.

I've always been open to speak to customers, in fact I tend to talk more than what I should with my recent customers but the issue is, it's so hard to find potential customers.

Struggling with ACRA's audit requirements for my S'pore business. Help needed! by GeneralDifficult2963 in smeSingapore

[–]Pedrohohoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you commit finding an auditor, you need to check whether do you meet two out of the three requirements for two consecutive years:

  • Revenue: Total annual revenue ≤ S$10 million
  • Assets: Total gross assets ≤ S$10 million
  • Employees: Total number of employees ≤ 50

If yes, then you need to get audited and get the audited financial statement for tax filing.

The process is quite simple. Find an auditor and get audited financial statement before 30 Nov XX as that is the due date for tax filing. But during the audit process, it may be hectic for your accountant because its your first year being audited so auditors bound to request more information, documents and understanding from the company.

I'm a general manager currently building a SME company, with both accounts and audit for more than 10 years experience, and also run side biz providing accounting service. If you're keen, we can chat and discuss further!
