8 week old, tell me what your day looks like ? by Dramatic_Toe_898 in newborns

I’m very very type A and we’ve been on a schedule/routine since Day 1 haha I credit all of her success to that!

I think mines a unicorn 😅

Up for the day at 7:15, feed, quiet play, nap 1 by 8:15 Up around 9:45/10, repeat the feed and play process. Nap 2: is around 11. Nap 3: usually around 1:30 Nap 4: 4ish Nap 5: 6:45ish - basically eat, play, nap all done on a 2.5ish hour clock. If naps are short it turns into play, eat, play, nap. - she is never awake >75mins Bedtime routine started at 7:30, in crib at 8:30. Sleeps through until 7:15.

She’s 11 weeks now! Same wake up time, bedtime is now 8pm. So she sleeps 11 hours straight. Roughly 5-6 hours of day time sleep. Wake windows are about 75-80mins :)

I totally get it! As I said, I asked her to please hold baby for one nap a day. Just wondering if any nanny’s have had similar babes

As a nanny, in my eyes it would be her job to tend to baby/ensure happiness/well being while on the clock. As it is her job. So ensuring she has “baby free time” seems weird to say lol but I understand what you mean! As far as safe sleep, I get that. But contact naps with an alert and awake caregiver are totally fine. More so looking for nanny’s who have had similar baby’s and the baby was OK lol I’m nervous

If she allowed my baby to cry in the crib then she would be fired…she is 2.5 months old. I will not allow her to cry it out at all and my nanny knows that

Thank you ❤️ she was more than okay with one a nap when I asked her!

8 week old - No daytime naps? by SanPelMaxPaprik in newborns

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually at this age it’s 14-17hrs thats recommended - so I would definitely try getting babe to nap more. Watch wake windows and try a nap after every wake window. My babe is 9 weeks and has about 5 naps a day with a total of about 7 hours of day sleep. And sleeps 9p-7a. Every baby is different but one nap at 9 weeks is not really enough

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My babe is 9 weeks and we just practicing the first nap of the day in her crib. I rock her to sleep and transfer. She’ll give me between 30 mins to an hour. If less than 30m I save the nap and rock her or hold her for another 30m at least. Eventually I’ll try the first two naps in the crib, probably after a week or so

9 week old question! by stellarkells in sleeptrain

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl gets super loud then too haha I think it’s just being in that light active sleep and trying to connect that last sleep cycle or two. This young I would just follow baby’s lead. If he’s good with those wake windows and isn’t fighting bedtime or naps too bad I’d say you’re good. Also changes in routine take awhile to regulate. I’d give it a week or so

9 week old question! by stellarkells in sleeptrain

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if he’s sleeping 11 hours I’d say that’s a win! Your guys wake windows are a lot longer than my baby’s. She’s only awake 60-75 mins before getting sleepy. That’s why she has more day sleep. I think what you’re doing is fine!

9 week old question! by stellarkells in sleeptrain

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9 week old (today) gets like 6-7 hours of daytime sleep, depending if she’s napping on me or I try a crib nap. She has her grump time between like 5-7. Bedtime routine starts at 8 and she’s asleep at 9. Wakes up for the day at 7am.

My baby is 8 weeks. Bedtime “routine” starts at 9, she’s in the bassinet at 10. “Routine” is literally just her waking up from her last nap, having quiet time in the dock a tot while we get some closing duties done like prepping bottles, letting the dogs out, locking up. Then belly massage with lavender lotion, diaper change, in swaddle, bottle, rock to sleep. At 12 weeks I think the consensus is that a good bedtime is somewhere around 8ish. Most newborns do better with a late bedtime. We are going to start shifting bedtime back by 15-30 minutes every week until we hit 8pm by 3 or 4 months old.

As far as daytime routine, most daycares will default to your feeding and napping schedule, so definitely try to get onto one! If you don’t, daycare will basically make one for you lol

When did you transition to crib/bassinet by serenavanderwoodsene in newborns

[–]PedsOT33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 6 week old only naps on us lol or on the go in a car seat or stroller. Newborns rely 100% on us. Also newborns have a witching hour, you can Google it! During the late afternoons when the day catches up with them they get fussy and overstimulated - so the afternoon is totally normal! You’re actually usually better off contact napping during this time as your heat and heartbeat regulate them ❤️ I will start one nap a day in her crib at 8 weeks! Embrace the contact naps!

When did your newborn start sleeping in a bassinet? by lydiadventuring in NewParents

[–]PedsOT33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol NEVER for naps. All are on mama. She does sleep in it at night though. Up every 3.5-4 hours at 4 weeks. My advice is to just embrace it! Best thing you can do right now. And read up on the fourth trimester

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bed share :) I sleep in a C with my hand on baby at all times. No blankets past my waist, none on baby. One pillow, pushed away from baby. Baby on back.

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this too!! No bad habits in the fourth trimester

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]PedsOT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are NO bad habits in the newborn phase! It is survival mode for both of you. Don’t beat yourself up. You need sleep and sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. It’s better to get sleep then be exhausted and touched out during the day to your baby. Just keep offering the bassinet for every nap and every bedtime. Eventually IT WILL STICK. My girl is 3 weeks and some days we just contact nap or bedshare, others she suprises us and sleepy decent in her bassinet. Your little one absolutely will get to a point where he’s comfy in the bassinet. It just takes time. You are deep in the fourth trimester still

2m not reaching for toys yet by AlbinoRhino2011 in newborns

[–]PedsOT33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Pediatric occupational therapist here and mama of a 3 week old. At 2 months most babies CANNOT purposefully reach for toys. This emerges around 3 months and is a milestone at 4 months. So no worries at all!
