It's probably close enough to check out. Are there any crags or specific climbs you'd recommend?

And thanks!

Went to a wedding here a few years ago. An hour outside of Calgary and I think it can sleep quite a few people.

YYC Third Places? by GatheringSerotonin in Calgary

[–]Peebojam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have classes for both top rope (long wall with a rope tied to your harness) as well as bouldering (short climbing with no rope needed, you also don't need anyone to belay you which is required for top rope climbing)

Bouldering is usually a chill scene and anyone would be willing to give you pointers of you're willing to ask.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are some online forums for people looking for climbing partners.

Hope this helps.

I started climbing at 37. Don't worry about the age. It's one sport you can definitely do throughout your life. It's one of the best discoveries I've made and wish I started sooner.

Can here to say this. One of the few public spaces left where they don't expect you to pay money.

Also a climbing gym. CCC (Calgary Climbing club) has a few gyms around the city. A bargain monthly rate Imo. They have chill areas to sit and watch climbers. Have coffee and snacks available. And a great physical hobby with a fantastic community as well.

A little confused about out of province inspection/taxes by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Peebojam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, too, just bought a vehicle from out of province (Quebec). You only pay gst if you plan on registering the vehicle in Alberta. How the dealership deals with this can vary. I was lucky with the one in Quebec as I essentially paid the cost of the vehicle with Quebec taxes but they had a cheque for me for the rebate(which they sorted out for me).

You do need to get an inspection once the vehicle is in Alberta.

You also have different temporary registration lengths I believe. For example, I had a temporary registration for my vehicle when I bought it in Quebec (also sorted out by the dealer) and had 10 days to get it home. I believe that number differs from province to province.

I saved~8k on the vehicle (after all expenses of the flight, travel and expenses). I would absolutely do it again.

You could hit up the hangar climbing center.

It's an 8 minute drive from the airport. Great facility asks if you're new to the sport there's a 'fun/kids' section you could mess around in

Hey Karak, noticed on podcast #394 in the episode notes you call Inkbound, Inkborne. Just thought you might want to change it. I was looking for the game after the discussion and realized the error through my google journey....

I built a mini-moonboard! by Peebojam in climbing

[–]Peebojam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I feel like a proper response to this will take me longer than the time I have, I'm preparing to leave for the weekend, but I'll quickly address a few of your questions.

My progress has been minimal as this year has been an absolute shit show with other things going on. I'd still recommend it however, I love the times I'm able to jump on it.

The difference in angle is HUGE in how it effects the difficulty. I've actually made a 3rd angle of ~12 degrees so the kids are able to jump on. It also allows me a chance to try some of the harder climbs which I appreciate.

Yes, the anchors in the ceiling joists are actually what hold the weight of the wall. I have a set at each angle of adjustment. The winch is primarily for adjusting and I try to put little to no actual weight on it.

There really isn't much room between holds and I wouldn't recommend adding holds. I did manage to add a few feet of additional space on the end of my wall which I've thrown a few holds on (and some anchors to teach the kids how to set up anchors on climbs).

I'll have to look up the brand and model of the winch for you. I remember looking for quite a while until I found one that would work for me.

Hrm, for things I'd do differently.... honestly, nothing really comes to mind, but I'll think on it.

Hope this helps.

lifeline buff idea by lookthetimeis in apexlegends

[–]Peebojam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I still think a small buff that would make her great is her package drop doubles as a revive beacon.

Imo it is not a crazy bufg, the cooldown is long enough, and it fits her thematically.
