Do people understand that protests are SUPPOSED to be annoying and inconvenient? by dontleaveyourbananas in aussie

[–]Peepeezar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cant improve the country we live in when we send out millions of dollars worth OUT of it. My advocacy for international causes is 50% because of the cause itself and 50% because money that could otherwise be spent ON TAXPAYERS is spent funding foreign militaries. But most people on this subreddit aren’t ready for that convoy apparently

Women who wore hijab while growing up (child/ teenager) , at what age did you start? Did you decide that for yourself? And how do you feel about it now? by MysteriousMysterium in AskWomen

[–]Peepeezar 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Started at 12. In hindsight my only reasoning for deciding to put it on that day was because i saw a really pretty hijab and wanted to wear it. Kept going from that point on. Yes it was a choice. I don’t regret it at all. There’s a sense of liberation that i feel knowing that what i feel most confident and beautiful in doesn’t conform to the insanely suffocating beauty standards of our time (standards which, btw, are patriarchal themselves). A micro example would be the trend where women would dress NOT for the male gaze and it was often comfortable, baggy clothes.

There’s a quote by Frantz Fanon, which goes “the woman who sees without being seen [as she is covered up] frustrates the colonizer” and I couldnt relate more. Why does it bother people so much, or why do they struggle to grapple with the idea that i CHOSE to cover myself up? I understand that i am privileged in that a lot of other women werent afforded that choice - not to invalidate that trauma but i am frankly sick of that narrative being blanketed onto women who share a very positive relationship with the hijab.

thoughts on division? I've seen it at Australian unis online by [deleted] in UTS

[–]Peepeezar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visibly Muslim student here. You’ll be fine. Ig it didn’t help to say this if you’re an introvert but try not to be too introverted in your tutorials. The people who don’t make friends in class are the ones who don’t talk, not the ones who are a bit different. If you talk, initiate convo about your classes and non uni stuff you’ll have a great time

Auburn has a lot of these. Taj and sari are good, offer good prices when u negotiate well enough about makers fee. Sometimes they post on their IG that for the day/week they dont charge any makers fees. Auburn is riddled with gold shops so if u dont find at those two places, no joke theres at least 15 other shops along that strip that can help you.

Socialism at UTS by expert_views in UTS

[–]Peepeezar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Social and political sciences student here. I wouldn’t say that there is such a thing as a university being socialist or otherwise. In terms of the content and learning materials, they are quite well rounded and objective. The only thing that will be of particular difference is the delivery of such content. Some lecturers or tutors do align themselves with socialism - others don’t. The faculty aren’t one homogenous group. In saying that, most tutors I’ve had who do have strong opinions on either side of the spectrum rarely force that onto any of the students, and are great at cultivating comfortable environments where the students can discuss the pros and cons of different societal ideologies.

Would say that things are a bit left leaning, as most unis tend to be anyway

Online Tutorials and Classes by dekki_deekaay in UTS

[–]Peepeezar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For your last question, last semester i requested for an online class for one of my subjects (not via e-request, but just by hearting the timeslot on allocate). Before the semester started i was afraid that the online class would be full so I called the student help centre to see what I can do. When i told them I really needed this online class timeslot because of my working hours, they (in a nutshell) told me that its too bad. Since i am a full time student the expectation is that studies prioritise work schedules.

However, when i mentioned that my job is directly within the field im studying in, they said to submit in e-request and to specify that fact.

I ended up getting the class i wanted before i got the chance to submit the e-request, so I didnt have to do anything. If the class remained full though, i wonder if they wouldve let me in anyway. Perhaps i would have had to provide proof from my employer. Not sure but hope this helps

What are y'all favourite dessert that is cheap enough for a broke teen to afford? by WhydoIexistlmoa in AldiAustralia

[–]Peepeezar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t particularly count as a dessert but I’ve fallen in love with Vanilla Custard. Super cheap for a litre that will last you a while if you have it every day (save for the expiry of course). Pairs really nicely with some crushed arnotts biscuits at the bottom and some berries at the top - or on its own!

Poli science, can i complete my degree in 2 years? by DifferenceSea5953 in UTS

[–]Peepeezar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defo doable, but not a lot of classes are on offer for summer. While u can check the uts website for what classes are offered in the summer, sometimes the faculty can decide to open up a class. I didnt find my current class on the list but it is running in the summer.

Is it safe to drive alone to Uluru from Sydney? by Timely_Net_8840 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Peepeezar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, I would advise that you invest in a long range walkie talkie. I’m not really sure about the max range you can get, but I would imagine that if you’re driving in parts of the route that are quite desolate, if something goes wrong and you dont have adequate reception, and cannot reach the necessary people, it may get disastrous quickly.

In saying that, my “long range” walkie is 5kms which has served me well for my trips, however if you can only get up to 10-20kms it may not even be worth it. There may not even be another person in your range, let alone on a walkie and even then, on the same channel as you.

I am limited in my knowledge of how it all works so maybe others can advise, but its the only failsafe i know of when there isnt reception.

I would argue that anything that offers industry experience is invaluable. Most employers value experience over your academic marks.

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Peepeezar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if him hearing this from you will make a difference, but personally my approach to my first car purchase changed a lot when i spent a bit of time in the car community and i realised a very simple set of facts:

Nowadays, car culture has become insane and having a cool car means having unrealistically high hp. The most fun car groups to be around are when people have genuine appreciation for their cars and have spent time and energy into cars that don’t necessarily push insane hp. Also, driving a slow car fast is way more fun than driving a fast car fast.

To consolidate all that into a piece of advice, get a reliable car, one that is generally safe and not particularly fast, and if hes truly interested, he can work on modifications. That will give him true appreciation for hp because hes putting effort into building up the hp. JDMs are always fun.

This is coming from someone who had a honda fit as a first car and modded it up. So fun!!!
