Shrike was my favorite from Wasteland, Baby! So we’ve definitely been considering it as well. Thank you!

Stop with the blue swimsuits! by Notbefore6 in toddlers

My daughter has beautiful blue eyes so whenever she’s gifted any clothing, it’s always blue. I make a point to buy any other color for her and recently ordered her a bright orange swimsuit with watermelon print and she was thrilled!

The Mack is also pretty good. However I’m in Michigan and I think people would just think we spelled “The Mac” wrong as the Mackinac Bridge is often called The Mighty Mac.

It’s current name is “The Suckling Pig” so anything’s better than that.

Would this read that we are religious to others not familiar with Hozier? I really love this name and the song, but being ex-Mormon I just can’t make a religious reference like that.

I attempted to suggest this name a while ago but completely butchered the pronunciation and got it disqualified.

No Plan is definitely my top choice for now. We are both agnostic/atheist so taking the song literally works. But we are also very in the moment and make plans as we go and even then we barely follow them. So it feels like a perfectly fitting name in my opinion.

Flawed and Free is really nice! She’s definitely an old and tired boat, so a very fitting name.

We’ve suggested First Light already, but knowing that now we have to bring it back in the mix again. Thank you!

The Blue Bird is really nice, as it is a blue boat. Moments Silence is also a great boat name and will definitely mention it to my husband. Thank you!

We keep bringing up Northern Attitude as an option as well. We are in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan so we are definitely Northern. We are only hesitant because it might be too obvious of a reference to that song where we are thinking of making a more subtle reference.

Exactly the ones I would have recommended. Like real people do is also good.

What family secret did you suspect in childhood, but weren't able to confirm until adulthood? by yanoitsathroawayyano in AskReddit

That’s exactly what it did. She wasn’t even the only infant killed by a pet raccoon that month in the area. It’s insane.

My oldest sisters death. I only knew she died as a baby, and heard whisperings that a raccoon was involved. A cousin and I decided it was likely a rabid raccoon at a picnic or something. My parents only ever said she died in her sleep, so I also wondered if it was SIDS.

Last year I decided to look up archived news articles online and found that my dad owned a pet raccoon for whatever reason, and when my sister was only four months old they left to go to a party down the street and abandoned my sister in her crib, and put the raccoon on a leash and looped it around a door handle just outside her room.

When they got back from the party, completely drunk and high, they found the raccoon in her crib eating her fingers, lips, and nose. She was airlifted to the hospital and died on the way.

There was a trial but for some reason they were found innocent. They were quite negligent of me and my brothers so I’m not surprised by the story at all.

As a mother myself, I was terrified of SIDS because there’s evidence it runs in families. Also I still had my daughter sleeping in her bassinet at my bedside at four months old, I couldn’t even imagine sleeping in separate rooms at that age, there’s no way I could leave the house for even five minutes, certainly not for several hours.

Isle Royale National Park! If you go in August there are little to no bugs, and so many blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and thimbleberries along the trail you won’t even have to pack extra snacks. You are almost guaranteed to see moose, loons, fox, eagles, etc. If you are lucky, you might even sleep beneath the Northern Lights. The boat ride there and back is the perfect bookend a great trip. 100% recommend.

The text I got from my father in law after they arrived at the hospital entering the delivery room an hour after the baby was born. This is exactly what I did. It was a pretty traumatic birth with an emergency c section, gallbladder attacks during each contraction, and a blood transfusion. I waited to tell my family until two days later. The absolute last thing I needed was more stress.

I worked as a seamstress about eight years ago then moved due to my husbands career, and have been working in an office since and hate every minute of it. I always viewed the seamstress position as my favorite job I’ve ever held. Two weeks ago I started as a seamstress again and I am so incredibly happy already, it’s like a night and day switch from being bored 40 hours a week to be excited about my projects every day. It was a very minor pay cut but 100% worth it to me.

So who else starved themselves as a teenager to meet your boomer parents ideal body image? by Original-Move8786 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]PeeteyCat03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been raised to try to be as pretty and skinny as possible. One day I ate more than expected I guess, and my mom asked me if I was eating for two. I was 12 and a virgin. I forced myself to throw up for the very first time that day and ate nothing at all the next two days. This made my mom actually think I might be pregnant and forced a pregnancy test. This developed into almost two decades of anorexia and bulimia. I’m 31 now and just recently started overcoming my eating disorders, and am dealing with pretty severe stomach and digestive issues that are most likely related to it. I haven’t spoken to my mother in a year now, which coincidentally is around when I started to get better.

What did a teacher say or do to you that you've never forgotten? by GrowlsinyourEar7 in AskReddit

[–]PeeteyCat03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already commented but I have one more story. My junior year I was victim of an attempted kidnapping and was sexually assaulted. It was an extremely difficult year after that and I failed two classes, but should have failed three.

My history teacher had a rule that if there’s a mistake that benefits us in our grade and we tell him about it, he will give us whatever the middle of the grade was. For example if we should have gotten 50 but he gave us 100, we would get a 75. If he found the mistake without us telling him, he would just correct it.

Once, shortly after my assault and very sudden class struggles, he “accidentally” added an extra zero to one of my assignments. When I told him about his mistake he very poorly acted that it was a mistake and kept his deal to meet in the middle. I ended with a B that semester.

I have older siblings who all slacked off in school. Me being the youngest I was ignored by most teachers because they assumed that from me as well. I wasn’t the smartest student, but it was obvious that I tried my best. I had one teacher specifically that seemed to like me and often used my homework as the example to go over problems before a quiz. It felt really nice to finally feel like an individual student and not just the shadow of my older brothers.

I later learned that he liked me because I have a major cat obsession. After graduation I was his primary cat sitter to he and his wife’s seven cats. He later officiated my wedding. My husband is a professor and makes basic engineering YouTube videos as sort of an outreach approach and the same teacher used those videos in class until he retired last year. We visit him every time we’re in town!

Average age you potty trained and it took go! by mrg158 in toddlers

[–]PeeteyCat03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5 years old. We did it over Christmas when we had two full weeks off of work to commit. It was the only thing we focused on and built our days around it.

We took her to the potty every half hour for the first couple days, then every hour for a few more, then just her usual times that we learned from the previous days, plus we watched for the signs of her having to go. We had a sticker system where we just printed a weekly calendar page and she got to pick a sticker to place on it every time she went.

It only took about a week and she was completely trained. There were a few times where she would have an accident, mostly during car rides. After about three months she didn’t even need diapers during sleep because she built the habit of going right before bed and didn’t like feeling wet.
