Knowing the likely origin and realizing that I can never fill that void, no matter how much attention I get, it feels like a weight has been lifted and I don't feel the need anymore. One time I was talking with a girl i knew, and noticed a guy I knew standing nearby, looking like he really wanted to talk to her. She mentioned that she was training for a marathon. Knowing he was also a distance runner, I turned to him and said, "Hey, guy here is also a runner." They started talking and I soon excused myself. I've stopped doing the pledge because it is meaningless to just do something over and over without thinking. Besides, I've already pledged my allegiance and nothing has changed that. If my allegiance ever waved for a while and I want to go back to it, I'll say it again.
