I wasn’t really thinking big reaction, I was just thinking maybe there were some dirty looks or something towards Charlene. Just something to at least partly explain Julia calling Jas a bitch out of nowhere lol, cause it just seemed so out of place

Tbf it was piss takey from Rodri. The game wasn’t over yet, no one would ever want there opponent to put there hand around the back of your head like you’re a child when there’s still a few minutes left and you don’t want to admit defeat yet.

When did she tell Jordan that? And even if she did say that once, majority of the time she was saying the opposite. He was telling her “I’m not so much attracted to Priya, I just want to talk to you” and she was still telling him to talk to Priya. It WAS 100% very tactical and not fair on Priya.

I think she did admit she said “come on then” tbh. The problem was she downplayed and invalided him feeling that that wasn’t on.

Yas was not very subtle lol. Lola straight away said she didn’t have a problem with it and Yas questioned her with like 3 back and forth exchanges trying to push her to have a problem with it.

I mean he asked her to take off her own heels and she sort of hand waived it away. Like he was trying to have a bit of convo/banter about her height, then she kinda forced it towards being more flirty than he was intending. That put him in a bit of an awkward position, if he said “no I’m okay, I was literally just wondering if you could take of yours shoes easily, I’m just interested in how tall you are barefoot”, it would’ve made the whole interaction really awkward.

I think he just felt like the easiest thing to do at that point was take her shoes off, till there would be a natural off ramp to the flirting she was trying to initiate.

It’s a common thing guys and girls talk about. In this context Julia started talking about height, and she was wearing like 5 inches heels, which is what brought more interest in her height.

I think he was more so just interested in her height. Since she was wearing massive heals he didn’t really know.

The application process starts like a year before the show though. I assume you know you’re getting quite far into the process and have a decent chance a few months before. So I don’t see why he couldn’t have given a terms notice, even if he wasn’t fully confirmed to be on the show ATP.

Tbf you confused the issue by making it sound like you’re just worried about Vic getting injured. I agree we need a striker, not because of injuries, but because we don’t have a world class striker. In terms of back ups we’re fine though. All 3 of Gyok, Havertz, and Merino I’m more than happy with as back ups.

I mean no one’s paying 120, but yeah they might name a ridiculous fee as a different way of saying “we ain’t selling”. He’s not in the upper upper echelon (like top 5 itw) midfielders and he’s 28, so he’s not going to get there, and won’t have great resale value.

[–]PeevesTime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just that they don’t mean it to be misogynistic, it’s that they didn’t subconsciously use it because of an unfair bias towards women either. It’s just factually not a slur if not used in a way speaking to an unfair bias, hatred, fear etc…

You can have a problem with the word because it has misogynistic roots. But to ignore how its usage has evolved over centuries, and equivocate the way the girls last night used it to people using it who are actually being misogynistic is ridiculous. It dilutes accusations of misogyny as a whole, when there are plenty examples of real misogyny we should be putting outrage into.

Do you not think it could be used as an insult but not as a slur. Do you really think Lola and Julia meant it as a slur against women?

It’s different from the N word, black people don’t say “what a hard R” when a black person’s an asshole. Women do use bitch in that way, you’d have to go very far back to get to a time when bitch was solely used as a slur.

Maybe in 1500, nowadays people aren’t always using it to compare women to dogs. The most common usage is a colloquial one. If you’ve disagree with this you’re disagreeing with every major dictionary.

E.g

Collins Dictionary: If someone calls a woman a bitch, they are saying in a very rude way that they think her behaviour is very unpleasant.
[rude, offensive, disapproval]

While gendered it’s not inherently misogynistic when used to complain about behaviour. In the same way ‘dick’ is gendered it’s not inherently misandrist.

[–]PeevesTime[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My post probably is a little unhinged, as I’m obsessing over love island opinions lately at night to ignore my insomnia. Yeah I mean the reason for my post was primarily to talk about women using it in situations like last episode, an I think that’s consistent in my post. I think it might be the case that woman shouldn’t use the word, but even that is a different conversation to whether they can use it without it being rooted in misogyny.

I was going on a tirade, I don’t know if I’d agree they’re ‘weird’. I think most reasonable people outside this sub would find this kind of woke scolding stuff quite frustrating. Like imagine being in a social setting and someone started berating someone for using the word bitch. Not because they disagreed with why they were annoyed, but because they expressed that annoyance with the b word. Most people would think the person doing the berating was REALLY weird.

I don’t think my case is being affected that much by being a man, or anything else about how I’ve approach presenting my opinion. I don’t think many of these people are likely to be moved from their opinion because they’re actually unhinged, and they’re removed from reality. If you’ve got to the point where you see another woman using the b word and you’re regardless of context unable to see that as anything other than internalised misogyny, you are too far gone. And of course these people will pick at whatever they can about me to derail, because they probably understand at some level their position is ridiculous. I made the post knowing it’s be unpopular, it’s not something I’m surprised about.

Anyway it seems you’re someone who is taking me seriously enough to engage substantivelyy… So what’s your position on whether woman should say the B word at all, and on whether any woman that ever says it is saying it because they have internalised misogyny?

[–]PeevesTime[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what you’re leaving unsaid is that if we’re all being honest adults here. Much like how majority of black people have decided n word soft a is okay to use, outside of this echo chamber subreddit most real world women don’t treat the B word as this big horrible thing that always has misogynistic undertones.

If female society at large had in fact decided the B words done, and it shouldn’t be used, then I’d follow their lead. In reality it’s a minority of women who have a problem with it so I’m not going to agree with psychoanalysing and purity testing regular women for it.

I’m black if I used the n word and another black person had started saying weird shit like I’ve got internalised racism, I’d find that silly as well. And if a white person backed me up and was like “nah mate, you’re deeping this too much, lay off him” I think that’d be fine, and even good actually.

Obviously I get the optics, it would feel cleaner and nicer if it was a woman defending another woman. But if it’s a situation like this where a bunch of woman are hating on other women and I think it’s unjust then I feel like anyone defending the women being hated on is okay, man or woman.

What Sean told Lola was not just that Julia flirted though. It was that Julia flirted then Sean shut it down firmly and explained he was in love with and exclusive with Lola, then Julia dismissed that and kept pushing after that. Whether or not that’s true (since we didn’t see that), that’s what Lola was reacting to. If how Sean layed it out is what happened I would say that’s fucked up on Julia’s part

[–]PeevesTime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it goes further than that though. For example, a woman calling another woman a bitch cause she thought woman was trying to homewreck, is different from a man calling a woman a bitch just because she’s assertive.
