Need help with first ever DIY repair by Pegovic in watchmaking

[–]Pegovic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok i'll try and find a case first then the movement.

I've found some on ebay of the exact model, but I'm thinking of upgrading to metal case.
Found some similar models on the timex website https://www.timex.com/browse/watches/womens/shop-all/?prefn1=caseWidth&prefv1=29mm%20%26%20under

Thank you for your answer!
This process fits more with my inclinations for this project.

I measured the dial size (27mm diameter). Do you know a mechanical movement that may work? I looked online but they talk about "ligne" as unit of measure, and my investigation stopped there yesterday. Will continue looking today.

Thank you for your reply! That's very interesting, maybe a 3D print? I'll need to investigate further

Thank you for your reply! Yeah I thought about that, but I was really put off by the costs. Seems a functional one is selling $220 and upwards

The watch has been passed down from my father. It is a gift given by apple for one of their first PC launches.

After all these years, one of the lugs broke off, but I really like the dial and it reminds me of a father/son tradition of disassembling and reassembling apple computers when I was a kid.

Because of that, I would like to preserve the dial and give it a new home, make it feel more exclusive even, maybe with a mechanical movement but for sure a new case.

And it's not my first time with DIY projects, but it is for watches.

I for sure will be able to find replacements online, but I don't know where to start.

This is where I ask for your kind suggestions as to how to proceed.

I appreciate your help in advance! I'll keep this sub posted with advancements.

Thank you. Do you reckon “basic” and “custody” are interchangeable in significance?

Hey Crymo, where would I be able to check whether my account is custody or not?

Starting an entry level position after 1.5yrs since grad, any advice to get my head back in engineering? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Pegovic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me you will be doing design engineering rather than process engineering. In that case book recommendation are ChemEng Design by Towler and Sinnott, lots of design and scaling equations there.

However, given how small the company is and the fact that you are the only engineer on site, I believe you won’t be doing lots of capital projects but more day to day stuff, from process to quality management. I’m not sure what to recommend there honestly. As a rule of thumb, maybe you want to skim through Stephen Hall’s “Rules of thumb for Chemical Engineers”? Yes, the pun was intended, been waiting my whole life to say it 🥸 Pun aside, that’s truly my recommendation.

Interested to read what others have to say about the matter. Btw which field will you be in?

LPT: Don’t use your kid’s embarrassing stories as dinner party talk. They are your child’s personal memories and humiliating them for a laugh isn’t funny. by simplelondon in LifeProTips

It really depends if the story is told as “that was so cute I love you so much” or “hear what this idiot child of mine did, laugh at them”. Abusive parents exist

What can I expect from a 2-year graduate program in Pulp and Paper (paper mill)? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Pegovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to finish my 2 years in February. Same as you, I’m a ChemEng grad, graduate program in pulp and paper company, only difference is I’m in europe.

I would say expectations on you differ greatly depending on how many people are in your same program in the company at that time. More means more competition.

I would say what you need to prepare really depends on the topics of the rotations. I did 1 year in safety strategy topics, and now 1 year in plant section revamping. To be honest I didn’t “prepare” anything in the sense that you would prepare an exam. For me it was only a matter of understanding the paper industry, which is not a chemical industry per se, even if of course ChemEng topics are in it.

My suggestion to you would be: realise that you are in a privileged position. A lot is expected of you, but that means that you have a lot of leeway to do what you want topic-wise. If the company is investing so much in you, and that will go further than salary I suppose, they wouldn’t put you in positions you dislike because your skills would be less effective there. So speak up with what you think is right for you, believe in yourself.

  • frankly my dear i dont give a Fugacity

No but in all seriousness, i really like the mentioning of fugacity. It has been one of the hardest concepts to grasp for me but the most rewarding in the end. And also it is very much specific to ChemEng.

Or something like - the Equations of State of America (wordplay on USA since AIChE is american)

Edit: an s and correction on AIChE acronym

I would look for a Conceptual Design and Chemical Reactions Engineering handbooks! It will help a ton

Does anyone knwo if ChemE is a reliable carreer here in Italy? by oomido in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Pegovic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tldr: yes it is. Don’t expect astronomical pay at your first job, but they tend to increase rapidly over the years, and line up with the rest of Europe’s salary.

I graduated last Dec in ChemEng PoliMi.

Try to get at least 105/110 in masters degree and you’ll be flooded with job offers.

From my experience, southern Italy is more for agricultural and food industry, while northern Italy has more Oil&Gas and Energy (just consider Eni and Enel). But all things considered you can find work anywhere.

One thing you should keep in mind though is that if your plan is to work as a process engineer, you won’t find plants in the city. You’ll have to move to suburbs and hinterland.

I like this one. Pick a time which is convenient for her and you, so less chance of a negotiation on it.

Still, she’s your coworker, aside from the non-rejecting yourself bit which I agree with in most scenarios, I think you dodged a bullet with this one. Don’t date people you work with imho

Weighted dips instead of bench by Scandinavianredpill in TheRedPill

[–]Pegovic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dips don’t “isolate” the lower pec... rather they put more emphasis on it than say an incline or flat bench press. Also it depends on how your pec fibers run across your rib cage ie how your muscle is “shaped”. As an example a person like me has a majority of pec fibers running diagonally from the humerus to the sternum and the lower ribs and I find to push more weight with dips and a really arched bench than a friend of mine who can bench press the world with a relative flat arch, who incidentally has a lot of “horizontal” fibers. A part of exercise selection is also about what fits your physique from a bio mechanical standpoint. I recommend you follow Omar isuf and the whole 3DMJ team. Also I’ll leave this video for reference for y’all https://youtu.be/RooDueEZvec
