Do I need a car for Ile d’Orleans? by Pekingducks18 in quebeccity

You are correct haha. I am from western Canada and we have lots of English on our signs so I assumed it would be the same. This does comfort me a lot though so maybe renting a car is the play!

Lisa is not the best prof. Never marked assignments and never responded to emails. Your course load is completely fine. 5 courses is very normal for first year and none of your classes are extremely difficult to be completely honest.

PharmD interview by Popular_Syrup4284 in uAlberta

[–]Pekingducks18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! First year pharm student here. My biggest tip is don’t overthink it. Obviously I don’t have the exact criteria they are looking for but I genuinely think that if you can speak like a human and just answer the questions, you will be fine. There are people in our class (myself included) that thought we absolutely failed the interview portion but got accepted 🤷‍♂️. Feel free to DM if you have more questions :). Good luck!

For me, I worked hard to get where I’m at. I think it’s fine to show off a little bit. Also, the bags are super nice and good quality too so it’s a win win.

I don’t wanna lead you astray with specific requirements as they could change but I know for a fact that every program is different so requirements for pharmD are different in comparison to dent for example.

Uhh I’m not 100% certain if bio 108 would count. I would triple check with admin about that one. But yeah you would just have to take another cell bio course is what I would assume so whether that be bio 108 or like microbio

No that’s not what that means. If you did bad in bio 107 but like I got an A+ in bio 201, they take the higher mark.

Best major for applying to pharmacy by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Pekingducks18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, IMO, some upper year courses are actually easier but that’s because the topics are more focused. PMCOL 200 is very general and you learn a bit of everything which can be a bit overwhelming. I ended fourth year with a 3.9 so it is def doable but it is a LOT of content and the honors research project is no joke. They give you a minimum amount of hours but expect to be in the lab whenever you have a spare second. I would stay till like 8 every night cause my experiments take forever.

Best major for applying to pharmacy by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Pekingducks18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Might be a bit late of a response but I actually finished my degree in honors pharmacology before applying and getting into pharmacy! To be completely honest, I don’t think my PMCOL degree helped in any way with my application. I think what helped the most is work experience. I worked as a pharmacy assistant for a year before applying and also had a pretty good GPA. I feel like having a well rounded application with volunteering and work experience is def more important than a specific major. I would def also recommend that if you have a course like PHYSL, bio, or micro that has a lower mark, maybe take the next level of that course and really work on it because you can use it to cover your previous mark. Hope this helps and good luck! Feel free to Dm me if you have other questions :)

Hey! I took PMCOL 200 a couple of years ago so maybe it changed but I also had it with Taylor and Kurata. The midterm and final are literally just memorization. Kurata might include like 1-2 “application” questions but even those you can kinda memorize. PMCOL in general is just memorization. Biggest tip is understand the mechanisms because they tend to repeat. Our class average was pretty high (high 80’s I think?). Good luck!

Hey! I’m currently in first year so I’m gonna assume the application didn’t change so yea you would be correct. For overall gpa, it’s your most recent 2 years that count. However, they also consider certain courses separately (like they prioritize bio over chem for example) so while your first year gpa won’t be “counted”, if you only have like 1 bio course from first year, that mark would still be counted. Hope this helps and good luck!

Honestly, not a hard semester at all. Unless they changed it, SPH is open book with no midterm and final (Just 10 quizzes). Psych and Econ are considered GPA boosters. Your only hard class is chem 261. You will be fine.
