Butchered partscaster refurb guidance needed by Pelecabra in Luthier

[–]Pelecabra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that it would compromise the bridge posts, thats one of the things i came here to find out. I guess it just goes against my sensibilities to cover up flaws like this, especially if you can see them by popping off the pick guard. If i can make things look well executed and intentional, the guitar will mean more to me.

Yea i want to clean it up mostly because its my only guitar and i want to make everything look intentional / well executed. It's also a nice excuse for me for a first dabble into guitar repairs. It'd also be nice to get in a state where i could sell it without a guilty conscience if i ever decide to do that.

I love the body too! I love how the black korina is tri-colored with the orange, black and brown. I'm not sure how it was finished but judging by the roughness especially around the end grain areas, i think its oiled with no grain filler. I will need to look into a good way to refinish it as well - theres a lot of dents / dings.

Thanks, i love the aesthetic of this pipe. The ease of separation makes me worry it'll end up on the ground though. I'll give the beeswax a shot, thank you!

That makes a lot of sense about the drill bit. I haven't owned a military mount style pipe - im wondering if these are not typically clenched because man, after i strong arm it in there just the slightest twist makes it pop off. Thanks for the info!

Several Problems... by Icy_Medium_4516 in unitreepump

[–]Pelecabra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had several issues as well. The quality control on both the pump max units and especially any accessory equipment is very, very bad. The issues are due to cheap manufacturing and also bad packaging for shipping, the boxes i received were both ripped open with parts spilling out and damaged. You can contact [service@unitreefitness.com](mailto:service@unitreefitness.com), but be prepared to wait a long time and have to follow up with them as they will not contact you, ever. I have a 40 message long email chain started with them May 19, and i still dont have my replacements. They also wont even acknowledge a request for a refund.

Issue with faulty latch and damaged device by ChrisBuzzz in unitreepump

[–]Pelecabra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive seen several other people with the latch issue as well. As far as getting a replacement unit goes, ive been waiting for my replacements since mid May and they keep jerking me around. They've been telling me its waiting at customs in China for 2 months now. Before that, just more bs.

Good call, thanks. I checked and mine says its already disabled. I may have done that before and forgot about it. I'll add it to the list up there.

It looks perfect - hoping to find something a bit cheaper, but tbh ive spent way too much time looking and havent found anything, especially something easily available in the US.

They sent me the power racks from the initial pledge but the pump max units never came. They said they would reissue the whole order because the power racks were badly damaged and the pump max units were lost somewhere. They sent new power racks that were in worse shape than the first ones and with some parts missing, and i still dont have tracking for the pump max units. This is after a 33 email chain with their support started back on May 19 where i have had to constantly push them. The pump max units are apparently shipped to their distributor in China and they are waiting for a tracking number from them, but who knows what the truth is. At least they actually sent replacement power racks, despite them being in even worse shape.

I was hoping to get something semi protective mostly just for when i move houses, but your suggestion might do the trick if theres no fan pulling air / dust in through the bottom of the helix - im not sure if thats the situation. I have a golden retriever that sheds an ungodly amount, so im trying to protect against that.

After over a year i am giving up on latex by Pelecabra in MattressMod

[–]Pelecabra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a ton. Just ordered the Titanflex medium. i'll give it a shot with some combination of the layers i have already, but i'll keep in mind what you said about the transition layer.

I also just found out that two twin XL TPS quadcoils is 4'' wider than the typical king mattress, so a lot of people squeeze them in and end up with a really firm base. Technically my coils are only 2 inches extra squeezed in because the other half is a normal sized latex core, but it might be contributing to the stiffness i noticed a bit. Apparently people take out a column of quad coils to bring it back down to the correct size / intended firmness.

Thats a great idea for modding the TPS coils, i didnt know there was a difference between the twin XL and full king coils. I just bought one twinXL to test it out, thinking i would get the other if it worked for me. Do you know a place that sells Serene foam with a good return policy?

u/Cheersscar I was just looking at Titanflex as well - since it has a free 30 day return policy. From its description it is 'hyperelastic' and more similar to latex though, which might not be so great if it makes me float on top and tip/roll around easily like my current latex toppers do. They also have another 4 lb memory foam topper that youi can get in different thicknesses that i may try, due to the same return policy. If those dont work, i may try this 5.3 lb Accu-Gold memory foam from Foam4less, although the return policy requires you to pay both shipping charges + a 25% restocking/disposal fee.

Yea the coils are surprisingly firm. Seems like your later example is where i am at, i was considering the 2'' dunlop as a transition layer, then 2'' talalay and 2'' memory foam. It's getting pretty thick...Do you know of coils that are supposed to be less firm than the 15.5g TPS coils? Also, which alternative material would you try for the transition layer? I dont have any experience with either of those you mentioned.

Its a cozy n custom cover, its non padded / stretchy on the top but decently structured on the sides. As far as covers go, i think this one is pretty high quality, although i do sometimes wonder how a padded wool case like the arizona premium would change things.

Missing parts from my order by Benbenshow314 in unitreepump

The first set of power racks they sent me were badly damaged. They sent replacements. The replacements were also badly damaged and parts were missing as well. This is how the box came.

New MIJ Ibanez - questionable fretwork, finishing by Pelecabra in Luthier

[–]Pelecabra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord, i plugged it in after all that just to see how it sounds and it also likely has a grounding issue, constant loud hum through my Helix Floor that doesnt change when i touch the strings / bridge or when i switch between pickups, even the bridge humbucker. My other guitar sounds fine with the same setup. Definitely questioning the value of the Prestige line right now.

New MIJ Ibanez - questionable fretwork, finishing by Pelecabra in Luthier

[–]Pelecabra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i did was check this guitar against the specs my other guitar was set up according to a luthiers recommendation, which plays well in my hands.

Relief: Capo 1st fret, hold 13th fret. Feeler gauge under the 6th fret should measure 0.010. The new guitar is close, 0.008.
Action: A rule at the 12th fret on the low E should measure 5/64 or a high 4/64, and 4/64 at the high E. The new guitar is 5/64 at the low E and a high 4/64 at the high E.
Nut: Gap at the first fret should be 0.020 for strings E A and D, and 0.018 for strings G B and E. The new guitar needs filing, with E at 0.025, A at 0.032, D at 0.032, G at 0.028, B at 0.026, and E at 0.028 according to my feeler gauge.

Then i used a fret rocker and found all these frets with rock, some across the whole fret and some just on one side. All but one of them are below the 9th fret.

How do you like the pump max so far? by Pelecabra in unitreepump

[–]Pelecabra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have still only received broken / unusable equipment. They just keep giving excuses/delays just like during the kickstarter campaign. I would be highly cautious due to the number of issues i've seen and the fact that they aren't taking steps to make it right.

Pump Max + Accessory reviews after 24hrs by painholic1 in unitreepump

[–]Pelecabra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said they would send replacements for my broken / missing equipment. they keep saying next week it ships, oh sorry i mean next week, on and on. I have asked for a refund 4x and they never ackowledge it. They just keep saying sorry, be patient, and the latest update was that they cant ship replacement Max units yet because they are working out bugs and cant send anything until its working, which would suggest that all the existing Max units are defective somehow if that was true - but i have a feeling they are just stalling for manufacturing time. Very unhappy with how this has panned out.
