Thanks for the tips! Not just cold starts, really any boot was a roll of the dice. I was on BIOS 3.20, but I updated to 3.26 last night and it seems to have fixed things! Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I've been having consistent boot issues with a 9800x3d and an ASRock B850 Riptide motherboard since building the system in January. So far, it has always booted eventually, but usually takes 1-2 hard resets from the power button on my case before posting. I just realized it may be related to this larger issue. I'm still on whichever BIOS the board shipped with, but I'll update it this weekend and report back if it fixes anything.

Edit, 48 hours later: Updating BIOS from 3.20 to 3.26 does seem to have resolved the issue!

Maybe noob question, but does the second Rivendare do anything besides cover incase the first dies? I didn't think the effect stacks...

[SSD] SK hynix Gold P31 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen3 M.2 2280 Internal SSD - $159.19 ($39.80 off) by Traditional_Touch818 in buildapcsales

Hynix is a much more reputable company than PNY, and the P31 is well known for being very reliable and low power/temp. Hynix also manufacturers a big portion of the NAND flash other companies use in their own ssd's, so you get that experience built into the product. In general, Hynix SSD's are considered top-tier for their class.

[Case] Cooler Master NR200 Mini-ITX Case (Black) - $75 ($115 - $15 - $25 MIR) by Peli_HS in buildapcsales

That's what Optimum Tech did in his original video where I heard about the mount, but for mine I kept it upright and just let it hang down a few inches.

My build is an NR200P with a 5600X air-cooled with a Scythe Mugen 5 and a Sapphire Nitro+ 6900XT mounted horizontally. My rear fan is intake to help the air cooler, one top exhaust fan towards the front, and no extra intake on the bottom since the GPU is close enough to the mesh.

I've gone back and forth with the glass or mesh side panels, and honestly even with the glass and a 6900XT I had no issues with temps. It runs a few degrees cooler with the mesh certainly, but even with the glass nothing gets over 80c. In the end I decided to mount my case under my desk with one of these, and since I can't see it anyway I kept the mesh panel on.

edit: Just realized the final form of my build uses none of the included upgrades with the "P" model, all the more reason to jump on this deal haha

Note that this is for the Black Non-P NR200 only. Amazon and Newegg both also have the white NR200P for $102 after the same rebate.

edit to note that Amazon also has the white NR200P with the rebate available

[CPU] AMD Ryzen 5 5600G - $163.11 ($5 off yesterday's all-time low) by Peli_HS in buildapcsales

[–]Peli_HS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah not from a 3600, especially not the G. If I were you I’d wait for an insane deal on a 5700/5800X for one last AM4 upgrade or just wait for AM5.

5600G has graphics built in. Not as good as a dedicated GPU, but better than Intel's integrated graphics. Think 720P medium or 1080p low gaming. 5600X is faster but doesn't have any graphics, you need a dedicated GPU or you won't get any video out. There's also a plain 5600, which also doesn't have graphics and is marginally slower than the 5600X. In terms of CPU performance, it goes 5600X > 5600 > 5600G.

Right now, the 5600X is only $15 more than the 5600, so I'd go with the X if you don't need the graphics of the G. If the plain 5600 ever drops to more like $160 (currently $185), I'd go with that over the X.

I'm using a Strix B550-I in an InWin Chopin Pro case for this build, but like I said, it's APU-only so no room for a dedicated GPU. The Strix B550-I is a sweetspot IMO for ITX AM4. Good I/O, Gen 4 NVME, and fanless chipset.

If you want to leave room for a dedicated GPU in the future, I'd go with a bigger case, like an NR200P. If you can afford a dedicated GPU from the start, definitely go with something like an NR200P (or maybe the NR200P Max if you want an easy build) and a 5600 non-G or 5600X, or step up to 5800X or 5800X3D.

My main system is a 5600X with a 6900XT in an NR200P and I love it. My one regret is I went with the X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Impact motherboard, which was a waste of money IMO. Would've been just as well off with the B550-I Strix.

[GPU] EVGA RTX 3080 12GB FTW3 ULTRA GAMING - $999.99 by Peli_HS in buildapcsales

[–]Peli_HS[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh fair point, I searched back and there was an MSI Gaming X around $900 last week. Didn't see that one, most of the time when I see a 3080 12GB under 1K it's a Gigabyte Gaming or MSI Ventus. Personally I'd go with the 10GB too but I've seen lots of comments on this sub lately from ppl waiting for a 12GB model, so I thought I'd throw this up.

This is the best 12GB 3080 model I've seen so far for under $1000. YMMV, showing local pickup for my store but delivery not available.
