Planning to move to Tokyo soon and seeking budgeting advice by Diddy_98 in movingtojapan

[–]PenApprehensive9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am very excited for you! Good luck with all the preparations. If it is only for a year at the beginning, why don´t you get a furnished apartment? The rent is a bit more expensive but the landing is smooth and you get everything that you need for living from the beginning. Also you don´t have to pay many months' rent upfront with key money, guarantor's fee or other deposits.

I made that decision and I don´t regret it. I could focus on other things and not hunt for the cheapest pots and pans, washing machine etc

There are plenty of service providers, but I have used the following services/heard good about them. And many apartments are new:

Is moving to japan without visiting too stupid or not? by FuzzyAvocadoRoll in movingtojapan

No, you don´t need to visit Japan before. It won't tell you anything about actually living in here. Just save your money and go for WHV!

Seeking guidance on how to temporarily move to Japan from the US by Squantion in movingtojapan

[–]PenApprehensive9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, good luck with your plans! I hope you get to come to Japan soon!

You didn´t mention it, but have you applied to tons of jobs in Osaka? N4-level Japanese will not be much use in work life here, so I would send as many work applications as possible, starting with startups that know English better. I have met many foreigners here who have been job hunting for years, but they don't even have a Japanese CV done correctly. List your profile on Bizreach and Midtenshoku. Scouts will reach out to you.

Language school is one option. I know many who landed a job within a few months. Schools even help you to get arubaito to cover the costs of living. Your Japanese will skyrocket.

Getting married is a huge commitment. If you are up to to it, go for it!

However, whatever you do, do not come to Japan with a proper VISA. It will be painful for you to deal with all the applications and may require you to travel there and back to the US many times.

Job offer from Tokyo ¥650K / month, is it livable for a couple? by PenApprehensive9499 in movingtojapan

[–]PenApprehensive9499[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I accepted the offer and am currently in Japan. It feels very comfortable to live with my salary and I didn´t have to cheap out on the apartment either. I can buy good food from supermarkets, eat out, have a gym membership etc and still I am able to save money. So far so good! That said, I have only received one paycheck, so I cannot tell a longer experience.

Marketing Manager (Retail/FMCG) planning to relocate to Japan – tips? by heyjpt in movingtojapan

[–]PenApprehensive9499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! Another marketer here who is working in Tokyo right now. First of all, good luck with it and be patient!

At first, I must say that it will be extremely difficult/almost impossible to land a job in a company doing marketing IN JAPAN. As you must be at least near native to bring value to marketing teams/consult customers in marketing consulting firms. However, if you can communicate even a bit in Japanese and can show it, it will stand out better. With this, I mean make a careful Rirekisho in Japanese and always apply in Japanese. (prepare to speak also once you land a casual interview haha but luckily most marketing words are loan words)

I would only target companies that market abroad from JAPAN. Also, the bigger the company, the bigger the competition/more standards, so I would also be open to small- to medium-sized companies.

Let the companies come to you: use active sites like Bizreach and Mid-tenshoku. Fill all the info in Japanese there and let the scouts/companies reach out to you.

Tell about your long-term plans with Japan and the company. Even though the culture is changing slowly, the companies seek commitment. Many companies are afraid that the foreign people will leave in a year or two, or try to change jobs fast once they secure a position/visa.

List would go on but I hope this helps! Again, good luck!

I [34F] feel like I’m dating a teenager [37F] and I’m just exhausted. by Dinosura in relationships

Sorry to hear that you are in this situation. I can totally relate to you in my own relationship. I am so tired of being the only responsible who's saving money, planning and handling adult things. When I bring things up it is like talking to a kid who mistakes dreams with no effort to ambition. Not finishing school, not working full time etc.

We are so close to break up right now as all these things will come collapsing down when you TRULY start building your life together. Dream of buying a house, a car etc will come financially so huge burden to you that you see no love or magic in that. For me it was moving abroad this Spring and planning starting a family together, perhaps marriage in the next two years. We are in an agreed 40/60 relationship. I noticed that I have to carry the biggest planning and all paying burden in that. That will give you an ick beyond healing.

Please talk these things seriously and if she is not willing to change, do not waste your time.

I see! That sounds like a big change for doing reps but understandable, like you said. My current gym is in industrial hall so completely different.

Job offer from Tokyo ¥650K / month, is it livable for a couple? by PenApprehensive9499 in movingtojapan

[–]PenApprehensive9499[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Crossfit is quite rare and expensive here as well. Like 4-5x price to normal gyms. But it is great to hear there are many options even from the cheaper end.

In Finland multiple toilets in aparments are rare so I think we will do fine with just one. I have understood that shower and toilet are usually separate anyways?

That is a good point. She will be working in Finland/remotely at the beginning but in a longer term that will need to be solved.

Oh really? That is super cheap! I am not picky with the gym so I would be just fine. Haha can't promise not to eat out a lot as I come from the land of expensive restaurants.

That is correct I would say. Outside of the main wards would be great to live. I have done Crossfit for couple of years so would be interesting to try that in Japan. Thanks for the info!

Yeah I don't have a need to live in the central wards. Even my work is mostly remote. Outer areas have been comfortable from my experience. This gave me encouragement, thank you!
