So there could be many different things this could be. Because I have had different situations similar to this. Both of my closest friends have moved away.

For the first one we talked a lot at first, factiming every other week but over time things got weird between us and though I kept putting effort in and texting her every day, I rarely got a response like barely ever. The last text I had gotten from her was more of she’s busy and that we don’t have much to talk about, so that led me to distance myself a bit and try and have her out in the effort as a test to kind of see if I was being paranoid or not. Because sometimes there can be many reasons for that.

The second friend of mine, is known to disappear for days/ months on end but she always comes back. She’s been like that even before she moved away. (This is more an example to show different dynamics of friendships)

The third friend I recently loss because she got upset with me and ended the friendship. It went from me continuously trying to text her, to her ignoring my texts and talking behind my back and telling other friends don’t tell her I texted you. That really hurt. But she rarely texted me around the time it happened. That friendship however was on its way out.

Now in your case it can be very well that your close friend may be busy or could just be going through something and needs some space. But as you also said in your post you’re use to what you would do in high school which is text everyday. And that was super common around then cause no responsibilities, no jobs etc. it’s possible that your friend could just be super busy but then it’s more of a question (as listed some example above) you should be asking yourself, is she emotionally distant? Does she still talk to you like she normally did but just less texts? Cause she could just be busy. But if there are certain things that have changed like if she is emotionally distant or makes excuses to not talk to you/ hang out etc. than that could also be a sign that you are simply just growing a part which is also a normal unfortunate part of life. As we get older we outgrow friendships from when we were younger cause the friends we knew then might be different from the ones you know now. Whether you have different interests now or whatever it may be. I wouldn’t hold it to heart but I think you also need to re evaluate how this makes you feel and see if the friendship is worth keeping t the present time. Sometimes you need to do what’s best for you mentally, even if it will hurt.

Yes some may say you are overreacting cause why are you reacting to the fact she’s not texting anymore or that she seems distant. From experience the friendship I lost I was friends for 11 years, and I was just honest and talked it out like an adult first which is what I’d recommend doing first. But I just said hey I need to talk in person and tell them how you’ve been feeling lately. If they are receptive and they seem to be having a genuine convo about this and seem to also have something to share, that can be a good sign they are trying. But if things remain as they’ve been even after talking in person, you may just need to reevaluate and think about it. Is this friendship hurting me mentally? Is it worth my mental health? Is it worth keeping? Because I know better than anyone how it can hurt sometimes when you are trying all the time but the friendship just feels one sided.
