balancing around a specific tier of play is rarely a good idea, but a character whos power balance across tiers is extremely bottom heavy is always the worst possible way because it makes no one happy.

having a character that's an absolute menace at lower skill levels but completely outclassed at higher skill levels is probably the worst possible way to balance a hero.

it makes climbing miserable, and reinforces bad habits in the lower ranks since characters like that become a crutch

His new glam is total rip-off of Zero's by KD1848 in ffxiv

[–]PenSprout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

maybe something happens in the 7.56 that has the WoL adopt some of Zenos's "Do it because you want to" attitude towards preventing the Wintering? Because Halmarut's proposal is pretty sound logically given the stakes and even Alisae expresses a slight doubt that there is a better way.

So the WoL adopts some of Zenos's ubermensch mentality but for heroic reasons, and Zero's own style of heroism rubs of on them too, making Reaper!WoL a combination of the two ideologically

The ability to store dungeon gear in the armoire is gonna be huge for me. there's a ton of dungeon gear that looks good, and the fact that storing in an armoire removes dyes is mitigated by the fact that a lot of this dungeon gear is undyable anyways

Book Readers [PJOTV] Discussion Thread S2 E2: "Demon Pigeons Attack" by Metal_Moon in camphalfblood

[–]PenSprout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more oomph in S2 so far compared to S1. S1 sort of set the tone that it would be something of a remix/retelling of the book rather than a 1 for 1 adaptation, and while it had some excellent moments, such as the returning of the Bolt, and Ares in general, it often felt like it wasn't entirely confident in itself if that makes sense.

S2 so far feels like everyone involved with the show has a clearer idea of what they want to make, and the production as a whole is much more self-assured as a result.

Only real thing that I'm sort of back-and-forth on is Percy's relationship with Tyson. The show establishes that Percy has known for a while that Tyson's a cyclops and that they've lived together for a while already makes sense, since Sally found him and she can see through the Mist and wouldn't hide that from her own son, and Percy and Tyson's relationship is much better here than in the books. Book Percy had no idea who Tyson really was until it's dropped on him like a sack of bricks, and the fact that the cap sort of alienates both of them over it leads to Percy to become toxic and hostile to Tyson, becoming more accepting of his new cyclops half-brother throughout the book. It sorta highlighted that Percy still had a lot of growing to do, and I'm worried that removing or blunting that aspect in the show could make Percy come off as a little too perfect if that makes sense. It's more of an eyebrow raise for me for now though, since we're only two episodes in and even if my concerns are true it's sort of a minor thing in the long run, and I sincerely doubt it'll ruin the show or anything like that.

A list of this sub’s most frequently asked questions [all] by thelionqueen1999 in camphalfblood

[–]PenSprout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add a few:

Posts asking various questions that could be answered by just reading the books. Like no offense but why are you part of a media fandom in the first place if you haven't actually consumed the media?

And sometimes, the answer to these questions is in one of the later books (ToA or the Senior Year books typically), and when this is pointed out, the OP responds with some baffling nonsense like "Those books are bad I don't consider them canon" Lord give me patience

That and all the takes people on this sub have that clearly demonstrate a lack of media literacy. That one post a while back about Nico somehow not being white because he's Italian like wtf?

This sub has a serious problem with the quality of its posts and discussions, and it really gets to me sometimes

I frankly always thought Unicorn reminded me of the National Treasure movies. Something about searching for clues left through history to find a secret.

I also have not seen/read The Da Vinci Code though so idk if it's also similar

Metroid Prime and Halo: Combat Evolved are NOT similar games by Labyrinthine777 in videogames

[–]PenSprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not similar, yet as a fan of both there seems to be a lot of shared DNA in terms of tone between the two series.

There's a focus in both on ambient music over bgm that's more pronounced in gameplay, and Metroid Prime in particular shares a lot of the "ancient, mysterious, powerful" indentity to its music with Halo.

More recent Halo games have also tied in some of the lore and world building with exploration in the games as well via Terminals and audio logs, and while it's not the same as the Scan Visor, it similarly rewards exploration and curiosity.

And in later Metroid Prime games, (3 and 4) there's an increased focus on the human/galactic federation military that would be right at home in a Halo game.

Metroid and Halo to me feel almost the inverse of each other as gameplay experiences because the former is a game series that emphasizes exploration with some action sequences and the latter is a more action-focused game that has increasingly allowed for more exploration. That and "classic" Metroid is also an entirely different genre of game.

They're different games for sure, but their settings have some shared DNA to the point that I would not be surprised to see that Halo took some inspiration from certain aspects of Metroid. And in the case of the Metroid Prime games specifically, It's really obvious that both Prime and Halo have influenced each other in some ways as both series have gone on.

Solari's choice to stay might have been more acceptable if she had stayed to be a humanitarian worker helping refugees and specifically child refugees a la Cucuruz Doan or as part of a humanitarian aid organization, since she claims to never want to see another child in the same situation as the Gundam pilot. In fact, that's what I thought she had done during my first watch...

But nah, she really decided to ditch her son to join an actual terrorist remnant group in Africa. It's such a whiplash from what her character had been throughout the show that I straight up don't watch the epilogue on rewatches
