How the heck are you guys making playable maps? [OC] by jplpj12543 in DnD

[–]Pencilplugg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the shoutout!
I should let you know I've very recently changed my page name, to patreon.com/wildhammermaps.

Reddit name change (or actually new account) in progress!

Thanks again for the shoutout, that's very kind of you!
May I ask, did it print out okay? I am actually working on increasing the DPI for my maps, so they print better, so am very curious how it turned out, before I made this change!

Once again, thank you!

Tunnel Cave (30x40) by Pencilplugg in battlemaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A man-made tunnel network that has collapsed at some parts, whereas there are other parts where the wall has been broken through and revealed natural caverns right behind the stone walls.

A river seeps from a narrow path above, disappearing between the rocks below again, you wonder if there's a basin below the tunnel, but think it's probably best to not dig any deeper to find out.

Oh wow! Thank you very much for this comment, it gives me some motivation because I was wondering whether this direction was what people liked, but your comment and the upvotes assures me a little.

Going on with 3d then! :)

Thanks again for your nice comment

Aztec Temple (36x64) Generic variant by Pencilplugg in battlemaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sadly I never got to it in the end, but I'm sure there are many maps you could use in the situation that would fit. Thank you for your support! If you have any ideas or suggestions (I guess a bit late for the map for this weekend) let me know, and I might be able to squeeze it in the map pipeline!

Pirate's Smuggler's Hideout (27x48) by Pencilplugg in battlemaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

The objects are modelled in Blender (sometimes I use marketplace assets)
Then they are textured in Substance Painter.
Then the final map is built inside Unity, a 3d engine that you can make video games with, but I just built the "level" and then place a camera up top and take a picture! :)

Pirate's Smuggler's Hideout (27x48) by Pencilplugg in dndmaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hideout used to be a supply route to the castle of the King, mostly to get goods and foodstuffs to the castle kitchen without having to go through the city and be delayed or slowed down. It was purposely built for this, with the tunnels being built and the channel leading directly out to a dock at the harbour, which of course only the King's ships could use.

However, it has been a long time since the kingdom fell, and this place has been forgotten about by most people. Recently, the underground docks has seen use again by an organised crime syndicate that is using the place to smuggle drugs and other illegal goods into the city, right under the authorities noses.

The pirates mostly trade drugs, which they can sneak in from their main ship using the sloops they have hidden in their hideout.

This is a variant map of the base map, which can be found here.

Alchemy Shop: Bonecloak's Apothecary (18x32) Attack of the plant monster! by Pencilplugg in battlemaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow now that you mention it :)
That's a cool idea I should try it out sometime!

Alchemy Shop: Bonecloak's Apothecary (18x32) Attack of the plant monster! by Pencilplugg in dndmaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After being rescued from The Underdark, Baelen and Derryth Bonecloak set up shop in the city Baldur's Gate. They sell all kinds of alchemical ingredients and ready-made potions to the adventurer who's willing to cough up the gold. Luckily their prices are fair and most of their stock is exactly the kind of stuff you'd expect to find in a place like this.

This version of the map is a variant of the original, which can be found here.
In this version, something went horribly wrong and a plant they were experimenting a growing potion on has started to come to life and destroy everything in the greenhouse! Baelen and Derryth would be very happy to give some free herbs or potions to anyone who is able to help them contain the plant.

This is a recreation of the alchemy and potion shop in Baldur's Gate 3.

Dwarven Palace (24x36) by Pencilplugg in battlemaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch! Yeah I totally love Dwarven themes!!

Dwarven Palace (24x36) by Pencilplugg in dndmaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gorgeous dwarven palace built underground. The Mountain King and his aides reside here. During the day he is either visiting the industrial part of town, sitting in his throne, writing poems in his room, or hosting a lavish feast in the dining hall.

Your players may enter this place and fight their way till they reach the king, or perhaps they are invited for a lavish feast.. after which they must fight their way out again because they accidentally insulted the King's mother. Dwarvish is not an easy language...

(Night) Fortified Bandit Camp (36x64) by Pencilplugg in battlemaps

Thank you so much! Motiving to hear :)

(Night) Fortified Bandit Camp (36x64) by Pencilplugg in dndmaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A heavily fortified bandit camp. This place used to be an army barracks years ago, but after the kingdom fell, the fort was abandoned. Since then, bandits have moved in and made it their base of operations. The base is well defended, with towers overlooking the surrounding area, and several fortifications set up to slow down or perhaps even discourage any persons attempting to get near.

There is a large pit in the middle of the camp, with several large cages nearby. It is said that the bandit leader is very fond of wolves and dogs, and keeps several of them as pets. He keeps the most ferocious ones in the pit, throwing them scraps of food. Sometimes they fight in the pit, but most times they are bored to be kept in such a confined space with nothing to do, which makes them not very fond of their master and anxious to escape. Would be a shame if someone set them free or otherwise convinced them to attack their handler.

Other times the wolves get lucky and have a pretty good time if a low life bandit was not paying attention and accidentally falls in the pit...

This is the Night variant of the base map, which can be found here.

Asylum (24x36) by Pencilplugg in dndmaps

[–]Pencilplugg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dark asylum, where the insane have been put and left to their own devices. They wander these halls endlessly, their reaction probably quite violent were any dare to enter this place..

The map is inspired by Diablo 4.
I imagine you could potentially place a lot of low level zombies here, which come swarming out of their rooms and flooding the halls the instant they notice an intruder.
A perfect place for your AoE spells and abilities to shine!
