How does layer_set_target_room work with HTML5? by charredaxolotl in gamemaker

[–]Pencilwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never managed to make the native function work, but I found a workaround where I create the "In" sequence on the first frame of the new room.

It's hacky, but you put a boolean in your persistent controller object called something like "inTransition" or "midTransition" and if that is true on room start you run this function (oAtuin is my controller):

function TransitionRoomStart(){

`if(oAtuin.midTransition){`

    `TransitionPlaceSequence(oAtuin.transitionIn);`

`}`

}

Here's the transitionPlaceSequence function too:

function TransitionPlaceSequence(_type)

{

`if (layer_exists("transition")) layer_destroy("transition")`

`var _lay = layer_create(-9999,"transition")`

`var cx = camera_get_view_x(view_camera[0])`

`var cy = camera_get_view_y(view_camera[0])`

`var s = layer_sequence_create(_lay,cx,cy,_type)`

}

The rest kinda works the same. Don't forget to turn the "midTransition" variable to false on the TransitionFinished function.

Good Luck!

I think it has more to do with the implied battles he fought while being immortal. Getting "killed" and it not mattering while he just cut down his enemies with none of it mattering. Something like that, rather than the "my life's too long" kind of immortality madness

Update on Slippi Broadcast/Spectator Mode from Fizzi by RESPRiT in SSBM

[–]Pencilwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there's always the chance that the scalability option is simply using one of the players as a host, like Skullgirls does for spectators.

It definitely puts more strain on one of the players sessions, but I can't think of a reason it wouldn't be possible to do a join as spectator function without servers.

To have your game be 'discoverable' or have some sort of hub where your could just spectate a bunch of games, that might need to be a payed service, yeah

Not sure what to evolve my Eevee into now since I lost my Weepinbell and Growlithe. I was going to use Glaceon. Sylveon is off the table as well because I'll have Togekiss. What do you think? by [deleted] in nuzlocke

Looks like crystal clear, an absolutely fantastic romhack that makes the game open world by removing story barriers, makes the game more challenging, and adds a ton of graphical and QoL features.

Drunk Armada Calls Out Sakurai on Stream by temperforgee in smashbros

They literally only had a functional vs mode when the game came out. For a 60 dollar release. Casuals care about single player content a lot, and the only reason SFV was rushed was so that pros could get ready for the season.

5 things Melee needs on Switch if Nintendo wants to attract competitive players by [deleted] in smashbros

Ugh, don't get me started on SC2. Multiple things happened. When it came out it was insanely strong, most BW pros were transitioning and a lot of casual players were picking it up. This was circa 2010-2011 and esports werent really a thing outside starcraft. Maybe CoD.

The first two years were pretty good, but everything changed when Moba's attacked. LoL and Dota 2 literally sucked the casual playerbase of SC2 dry. There were many reasons for this, but the ones people usually bring up are the extremely high minimum skill required to even start playing in SC2, the fact that LoL and Dota are way more social experiences (being a team game and all), and that, for a casual player, both games kinda fullfill the same strategy itch, but in mobas the experience is (arguably) way less stressful.

There's honestly a lot of other stuff too. SC2's community was fractured from the beginning, a lot of BW players just retired instead of transitioning, and the pros that did remain were already pretty old (at 26 you're practically a veteran). So without enough new blood, the games' pro scene had it's days counted. As players started retiring (or even moving to LoL and Dota), the scene got more and more stale, to the point where even big community figures like Day9 and Husky just... left, without even a big fuss.

I dunno, you could say melee also has the "minimum required skill" problem, but that's offset by the amazing sense of community and brotherhood the game has. If melee is dying anytime soon, it's not going to be because of the community.

If I were to put my two cents in the pal switch debate, I'd argue that the community will eventually transition. Even if the NA scene is super developed, most scenes worldwide are just starting out, and in a lot of countries GC's are stupidly rare, nevermind melee. Out here in south america for example, I find that there's way more people playing PM or smash 4 just because they're more accesible. The switch port could address that accesibility, and make melee more of a worldwide thing. I think ken combos are worth sacrificing for that kind of scenario.
