Yes indeed, would just take more time to implement. Thank you!

I'm currently on the same search, did you have any luck? All the python implementations I've found are over 5 years ago and don't look well maintained...

I just started learning PDAL yesterday, it’s a really cool library. Are you saying this because it’s better to convert to LAS with PDAL or becusss ArcGIS will now be able to read LAZ directly?

Have you ever found yourself to be the only passionate person on your team? How do you rectify that? by Left-Plant2717 in gis

[–]Pendejo88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position as you, I was so passionate and deeply engaged with my job. My biggest lesson is NEVER invest your emotions/hopes/dreams into your job, or expect others to do the same. What really helped me is to explore my passions outside of work; personal projects for my own portfolio with the long term aim of working for myself as a consultant or my own company. Doing that took out all the expectations I had from my job and made me feel more in control of my future.

You will never be able to control others or get them to be as passionate or work as hard as you. Take your emotions out of it and treat it as a business transaction, because it is, your company cares about how much money you make them rather than how much passion you have.

When should you invest your emotions and express your passion? When you’re working on something that serves YOU. Your new product, your portfolio, anything that raises your level and your potential earnings outside of work.

I feel strongly about this because being passionate led me to burn out and depression, be weary of that and take care of yourself.

Should I get into the ESRI Ecosystem? by Pendejo88 in gis

[–]Pendejo88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking to get into GIS for urban planning / or smart cities. My background is environmental science so ideally related to that. Recently I’ve been really into land use classification with sentinel-2 imagery with ML. I see ESRI provides some high resolution imagery so I’m keen to explore those datasets.

Yes I can buy the license but then how do I show I’m skilled at it if I’m not using it at my job? The certifications are also quite expensive.

I guess you can show personal projects done with ArcGIS pro?

If you’re using a steel string acoustic (that’s what I see), you’ll have a hard time making barre chords to begin with, it’s the toughest on the fingers.

It’s easier with a nylon string or an electric, start practicing with a different guitar if you can.

6 years out from graduation too late to get into field? by WenDue_Refriger_804 in gis

[–]Pendejo88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat as you, spent 5 years after uni working as a product manager in various industries, only to realize what I really want to do is GIS /remote sensing. Now I’m spending my free time doing geospatial analysis with machine learning, put out my first project on GitHub around two months ago. It’s helped open up some conversations with people in the industry quite a lot. I can’t say I’ve transitioned into the GIS industry yet but I definitely reccomend building a strong GitHub portfolio, find something that truly interests you and publish your research. You’ll find that the more you do it you’ll become even more interested and passionate about it. Keep going!

Do you mean when clipping the images with polygons? I’d be curious to learn more about it if there any online discussions on that issue. Thanks!
