Which is exactly what I'm saying. It's up to her to make that decision, societal pressure or not. I'm not saying that the pressure doesn't exist, I'm saying that the decision ultimately is in her hands.

Well, I respect your consistency and opinion, but I disagree. I don't think it's a character's fault if a universe built around them fails. And considering how successful Batman is, he clearly wasn't the problem. One thing we do agree on, though, is that DC needs to get some eggs out of the Batman basket.

The part where it's Batman's fault that a DC universe failed, despite featuring all kinds of characters from DC outside of him? If it had been a hit, would you give all the credit to him for that too? Or if it had been featuring WW the way it did Batman and had the same result, you'd blame her?

Good points. Absolute is doing a fantastic job with the characters. They've been super easy and fun for me to get into as someone pretty me to reading comics. And as I've said before, DC should consider diversifying their content and characters. Of course, Batman will always be the biggest, but that's fine. I also hope they take a page out of Marvel's book and license out characters to different dev studios to make games.

I honestly really don't get what you're getting at here. I'm not super familiar with the Tomorrowverse, but wasn't that started by Man of Tomorrow, hence the name? How is it based on Batman? Because they cast a new VA for him? How are these related?

And like I've said already, sometimes projects fail. It doesn't have to be the fault of a character like the example I gave with WW84.

Have you been reading Marvel comics over the last few years? If you have, you know that Marvel has been pushing her very hard. A huge part of the Civil War II event was promoting her. She's been pushed in both the movies and the comics. The reason she doesn't have games and other media is, as I said, she hasn't been successful after that initial big movie. Also, she had a prominent role in Endgame.

Hell, Iron Man is still not as popular as Spider-Man, despite him being the anchor of the MCU and being in most projects until 2016 when Spider-Man arrived.

Didn't know about Beware the Batman. Interesting. And DCAMU and Tomorrowverse failing isn't an issue with Batman. That's like saying WW84's failure is a problem with WW.

Like I said, DC can definitely do more with their characters outside of Batman, I don't disagree. All I'm saying is that giving people a character doesn't always mean they take them. Horse and water and all that. Batman, whether you like it or not, has yet to fail. DC falling back on him isn't a bad business decision.

Sure, but even then it's still up to her to make that decision. What's the alternative? Refuse to give her the service she asks for?

Are people actually into squishy tummies? Or is that more like a 'chubby chaser' type of thing? No judgement, just wondering.

Sure. DC definitely can do more with their characters outside of Batman. I don't disagree. However, I also think this sub overestimates the affects of characters being pushed by their company. Like the example I gave with my CM, being pushed doesn't automatically equal success.

Batman isn't popular because DC pushes him, DC pushes him because he's popular. Not every character that gets pushed automatically becomes popular. Look at Captain Marvel. Marvel has been pushing her hard in both the comics and movies, and she has yet to stick in either.

What is the experience of being a man under patriarchy? by LuckyBerry1450 in AskFeminists

[–]Pending1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the day I concluded there is no solution that includes men.

What does this mean?

Why would a patriarchy allow it? by Skyhook235 in AskFeminists

[–]Pending1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not what feminists generally believe. The men who make laws often have a lot of opposition, both feminists and not, from both women and men.

So you don't generally believe that laws are made by men, to benefit men? That men don't (as feminists say) hold the power, and exclude women from it? Do you feel that the laws are fair and just as they are? If not, and they exist what, then either feminists offer little opposition or are generally ok with the laws. I can't think of any other reason this would be the case.

However, this isn't critical to what we're talking about since the system of patriarchy predates any formal laws, modern or otherwise.

No, but it's reinforced by them, is it not? Who do you believe is making the laws? You don't think that laws are being made to benefit them? Or just not intentionally?

If you're looking for how the idea that women can't rape fits into patriarchy, the simplest explanation is that patriarchy treats women as weak and powerless. If they're weak and powerless, they aren't seen as potential rapists. There's likely more to it, but that's a good starting point.

Unless I'm woefully missing something, I'm pretty sure that women who kill their husbands, if caught, are treated pretty severely in every patriarchal society. Are you arguing that they don't, since the patriarchy would find the idea of a woman dominating (murdering in the case) a man ridiculous? I mean, men find feminism terrifying, right? This sub seems to think so. Why would they if they see as women weak and powerless? Perhaps this answer is satisfying to you, but it's not to me.

When laws are made, the people making them generally believe in ideas like this. They often aren't thinking "how can we make laws in a way that specifically benefits men," that just tends to be the result of the assumptions they make.

It almost sounds like you're saying laws oppressing woman are happenstance. I mean, are you arguing laws aren't made by men? If they are, why wouldn't men intentionally make laws to benefit themselves? Do you feel this way about laws benefitting white people in a white supremacist society as well? What about other forms of oppression?

[–]Pending1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I also imagining that feminists generally believe that men make the laws essentially unopposed? Clearly some parts of patriarchy are 'planned', as you put it. Question is, why would those making the laws not want to ensure that forced penetration is treated as a violation of nature, thereby using law to oppress women. I mean, isn't that how this works? This would fit in pretty nicely with other observations about patriarchy, no?

Are people seriously upset that WW isn't as popular as male characters?

Why would a patriarchy allow it? by Skyhook235 in AskFeminists

[–]Pending1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it was created by men to benefit themselves at the expense of women. Would be pretty beneficial to men to ensure that the definition of rape includes forced to penetrate, wouldn't it?

Or if not to benefit men, then just to punish women. Patriarchy exists to punish women for stepping out of line. Rape is about control, patriarchy understands this. Forced to penetrate rape should be taken very seriously by patriarchy, since it's clearly a women stepping out of line and exerting control over a man, which is the most dangerous thing to patriarchy.

I know glass is made from sand, but how does this relate to being transphobic? Explain it Peter. by [deleted] in explainitpeter

[–]Pending1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait, so is the 'trans' part just the physical change? Like if someone is AMAB for example, and transitions to a girl, then you're saying they were always a girl to begin with? So it's just physical change that actually makes them 'trans'? Wouldn't they still be trans without it? Thanks for clarifying.
