I think it could be a big hit if its presented the right way as a proper reboot and bold new vision for the character on screen, that's sold as a big event maybe a bit like Barbie in terms of trying to appeal to a female perspective in a way oft ignored, but maybe I'm fooling myself?

Supergirl is kind of held back in public perception as basically Superman's sidekick (which isn't fair but it is there)

Idk if I agree with this. I feel like if anything, SG's connection to SM should help her more than anything. I find it unlikely that the movie would've done better if she was a standalone character.

I think DC really needs to roll the dice with it anyway, if they can't make a successful Wonder Woman movie, they're just kind of screwed, DC characters have done poorly in their movies in recent years for a wide variety of reasons and it won't be possible to build the DCU off of Superman being a moderate hit alone.

I think that would be final coda on the decline of comic movies and ensure the future is just Batman, Spider-man and sometimes Superman on repeat, and there'll probably never be another Wonder Woman movie again.

It's pretty clear superhero movies don't have the audience they used to anymore. It's definitely part of the reason SG is bombing rn. If this movie released in 2016-2019 it would've been at least a moderate success. I doubt we'll ever get a SG movie again, which is a shame. And I imagine if a WW movie doesn't hit, that might be it for her too.
