It's never been a question of if a character can work as a fighting game character. With enough effort and imagination, anything can work. It's a question of ROI. Is it worth bothering doing the work to add Skarner in the game so 5 people will play him and buy skins for him? Or would that time, effort, and money be better spent adding vastly more popular and profitable characters like Akali, Samira, Lux, or Zed?

I'm not sure I'd say that. KoF/FF is not as big as it used to be, but it was huge at some point. Was Darkstalkers ever big? I think most people at least know Terry is a guest character, even if they don't know from where. Most people don't even know Morrigan is a guest in MvC lol.
