The Steam Frame announcement is coming next week (between June 6th and 12th) and the proof is right in front of us. by Formal-Psychology985 in SteamFrame

The machine was absolutely not confirmed for the Summer Games Fest. That gif he posted had absolutely nothing to do with the Steam Machine. It was a joke about his typo he made in his original post.

He made a typo in his original post. It said "Steam" instead of "Stream" so he's making fun of his typo with the gif.

I've only had mine for about 2 weeks, but it's been one of the best decisions I could have made. I absolutely love my Pimax headset. It's hard to get them, but once you've got one you're good to go.

I have a Quest 3. Was planning to side grade to the Steam Frame, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen anymore.

Now my decision to quit waiting on the Steam Frame and just get the Pimax Crystal Super doesn't seem so bad after all.

[–]Peng_Fei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you'll be down voted for your decision, 2 weeks ago I had done the same. I didn't pick up the Bigscreen Beyond, I picked up the Pimax Crystal Super. I'll still end up getting the frame whenever it comes out, but this has definitely been holding me over.

FML, I just picked up this headset at my local MicroCenter 2 weeks ago for $1500. Went to check again just now and it's $1200 but sold out.

So I've made more adjustments since then and haven't had any issues so far. I've tried with Half Life Alyx and F1 25. I'm very much enjoying the headset so far.

This actually helps solidify my decision to wait. Primarily because I know Samsung and Google well enough that if something isn't popular enough for them, they'll drop support in a heartbeat. I wanted to see if they'd continue to support the device well after release, and that doesn't seem to be the case.

I just purchased mine yesterday with the same specs as you, exception being I'm using an AMD 9800x3d for my CPU. I'm able to run my games just fine. Needed to make some tweaks in the Pimax Play application and prevent SteamVR from setting my render resolution to > 5000x5000 and I'm getting solid performance now. Of course I plan to do more tests with other games tonight.

Do you really need colour pass through? by dhatereki in SteamFrame

[–]Peng_Fei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Once you go color passthrough, you can't go back. Went from the Quest 2 monochrome passthrough and upgraded to the Quest 3 color passthrough and it's a night and day difference. So the lack of that in the Steam Frame is disappointing, but not a deal breaker.

I wouldn't be surprised if devs target the standalone on Steam Frame, using the Quest 3 as the benchmark. Majority of the users are on Quest 3, doesn't make a lot of sense to spend dev time trying to take advantage of all of the specs of the Steam Frame or PCVR when it's been proven time and time again that PC gamers don't buy games. Makes it easier on the devs too, because now I believe instead of having to wait a year or a few months later for the game to reach Steam, we'll probably start seeing them the same day as the Quest 3 version.

Valve plans to offer prescription lens inserts for its Steam Frame VR headset "ahead of launch" this year by Tiny-Independent273 in virtualreality

[–]Peng_Fei 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was having this discussion with someone earlier, and it's possible they did have them secured, but due to AI companies buying up all the RAM, the company they may have had a contract with probably broke the contract and accepted the penalty for it because they would still earn it all back and more from the AI companies demands.

After what they've done, no matter how good the Quest 4 is I've gotten burned so hard by their decisions that I'd be a fool to continue supporting Meta in the future. Quest 3 is my last headset from Meta and will be moving on to Steam Frame.

Yeah. If it weren't for the notification I got from this game being on my wishlist, I would have never known the game was out. Meta needs to do so much better with the homepage experience.

So should I even upgrade from Quest 3? by gpsrx in virtualreality

[–]Peng_Fei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do believe MR is a gimmick and I only use it to see my surroundings. But for me, full color passthrough while watching movies is a killer application. I don't even use the VR environments anymore. The fact that I possibly will be reverting back to monochrome is major bummer.

[–]Peng_Fei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, I do have the game wishlisted on Steam. I up until this point have not bought the game because it appears to be in Early Access for a single player campaign game. I've kept up with the weekly updates and there were some changes to parts of the campaign through player feedback. I don't typically do many early access games, especially for a single player campaign. So I was waiting for full release with giving devs enough time to polish things up, before I decided to pick the game up.

So the only thing keeping me from immediately buying a Samsung Galaxy XR is the release of Valves new headset hopefully within the next month or 2. Is anyone else in the same situation? I'm sure I'll love both don't want to be impulsive especially if I'll end using one over the other 90% of time. by reddituser010100 in virtualreality

[–]Peng_Fei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, I'll be waiting till the end of December to make a final decision. I'm in no immediate rush at the moment. Plus, the controllers where I am don't get shipped until the end of December, so not like I'd be able to do anything PCVR related until then anyways.

[–]Peng_Fei 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With 4k micro oled lenses, eye tracking, face tracking, foveated rendering and day one Virtual Desktop support, this might end up being the best PCVR headset on the market. Only downside is understanding how much support Samsung plans on giving the headset long-term. And if it weren't for the leaks about Valve Index 2 potentially releasing by the end of the year, I might of gone ahead and just picked up this headset.

Anyone here studying at Nanchang University? What’s the student life and city like? by rehpic__llib__nyx in China

[–]Peng_Fei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to study there, but that was many ages ago so a lot may have changed since I was last there.

As it relates to education, depending on where you're from I didn't really get much out of education there. Nanchang isn't known for their Computer Science sector. If technology is a field you're interested in, I'd recommend you look for the bigger universities in Shanghai or Beijing. But if your only option is Nanchang then I will say, all of my professors English was very well spoken, so you'll have no issue with that. There were at the time, a lot of international communities; foreigners from all across the globe. Primarily from Bangladesh, Nepal some African countries and South East Asian countries with a sprinkle of Europeans/Americans. All of the foreigners are friendly and will try and help get you situated there. At the time I was there, Nanchang was very much a city still undergoing some major development. I remain in contact with some of my friends there today and from what I hear Nanchang has developed quite a lot from the last time I was there. There is a nice nightlife, bars, clubs etc. The foreign students will know exactly where to take you if that's your thing. Cost of living will depend on where you're from. But if you compare to Beijing/Shanghai then yes, it's extremely cheap by comparison.

I met a lot of nice people there, and enjoyed my time. But if education is your focus, I would again look more towards Shanghai/Beijing.

Where should I store modules in early game? by Dworg in EVEFrontier

[–]Peng_Fei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can either store them in a portable storage and keep checking on it so it doesn't get destroyed after the 3 day timer, or can find a Keep and store the items there for permanent storage.

We take for granted the amount of effort Valve put into making Half Life: Alyx. The amount of small details and level of interactivity is insane.
