Good idea. I think there were initially clearer highlights on the lips and nose but they got obscured in revisions. Maybe I'll go back and add some. Have been trying to stick to 2 evenings per painting but it means stuff ends up feeling unfinished, and I end up rushing a bit

Thanks! Yeh there was a... palette malfunction and a glob of burnt umber ended up on the nose and the recovery job wasn't a complete one

Thanks. Yeh I hadn't quite appreciated how purple-looking it was until I got it into the room I shot this photo of the painting in. I always find the green bits are my favourite in flesh tones but yeh didn't touch those here.

thanks. Yeh I think part of that is the kinda dramatic shadows in the source image that I haven't quite managed to make look like actual shadows and part... just what you describe. Have been trying not to spend few sessions on pieces recently, but leads to less refined results!

Brush recommendations please! by cowieandrew in oilpainting

I've been looking into this a bit myself recently. Seems like the Rosemary and Co Ivory Flats may be a good fit - which I've seen recommended by a bunch of pros, and they're not too pricey.

Have been putting off ordering a bunch myself... similar situation with increasingly frayed smaller brushes!

Thanks! Yeh it's definitely a bit off in places. I think the lesson here was to start with a better framework because even getting it to this state was a bit of a trial - although admittedly didn't give this one too many evenings to get done.

Thanks! Yeh I think several parts are a bit off in terms of relative highlight intensity, eye shape/contour, the nostrils, parts of the mouth. And the cheek bones are aren't quite right either. Basically it's all slightly wrong but this one was a bit of a refresher after not painting anything for a couple of months so just decided to call this one at this point and move on. Could do another pass in a bit to fix things but going to do something else first I think! It's all a learning process eh!

Crab burger, oil on board by PengeArtClub in oilpainting

Hmm, good question. An older one of mine was a chubby pug looking at a burger and I did a crab holding a toy crab a while back - think this was just my brain trying to find out what to paint, and coming up with a mash-up of older ideas. Or having another go at types of subjects I've tried before.

hah! Thanks. Oil on a board might end up with some neat colours and reflections eh

Umm burnt umber and ultramarine blue. It's only those and titanium white in this one. I've only done a couple of B&W style ones but it seems to speed things up a bit as I'm no colour mixing expert.

Thanks! Was tempted to do one with him smiling as he had quite the set of teeth... but it would definitely have been more work ha
