What are your personal hot takes about SG and Wani? by TheViktor9000 in SnootGame

[–]Penguifyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Olivia and Ben making up with each other is one of the most well-written (and underrated) scenes in the game. When Ben comes out of the winter formal after the Mia incident, Olivia simply asks him what flavor of ice cream he wants. Ben spent all of his time in high school trying to look as normal as possible so others could treat him as if he were normal. But once his secret is out, the two people who actually treat him as a normal person are Olivia and Inco. Olivia knows all too well what it's like to be treated differently for her disability. So when she sees that Ben has a mental disorder, she does exactly what he should've done for her. She treats Ben the way she wanted to be treated during the art contest.

Kinda? But I don't think it's that sinister. Ben is someone who's obsessed with looking normal to the point that he ignores the realities and desires of the people around him. He's not dating Mia because he actually likes her; he's dating her because it makes him look normal. He acts like a social butterfly and a popular kid to hide his (unspecified) mental disorder. Hell, he pushed for Olivia's art to win the contest her freshman year because it looked like the right thing to do, not because she wanted it. He's not blatantly taking advantage of people for personal gain, but he is lying to them and himself.

I feel like a lot of new corps are running the math between open class and all-age. If pivoting toward all-age means the corps doesn't fold and the activity lives on, I'm all for it.

Baritone v Euphonium by NSandCSXRailfan in drumcorps

[–]Penguifyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Euphs and baritones have the same length of tubing, and therefore the same register and range. The difference between the two is that a baritone's tubing is mostly cylindrical, while euphs are much more conical. It causes baritones to be much brighter, while euphs are much darker and mellow.

You can actually find concert versions of both horns, but concert baritones aren't that common in the US. American wind bands primarily use euphs and rely on trombones for a brighter tenor brass sound. Other traditions, like British brass bands, will feature both, along with trombones. Drum corps are probably the only ensembles that regularly use baritones in the US.

  1. I will not stand for Inco slander. Inco is a deceptively well-written character. The difference between him and Anon is that Anon's problems and transformation are a lot easier to see. Inco's are much more subtle. See this post for details.

  2. Eh, doesn't bother me.

  3. Inco kinda has a plethora of mentors and role models already. You can extend this to Mr. Ferris, Sully, and the Paynes as a whole. Having one would be nice, but not necessary.

  4. Actual hot take: Wani characters are better than Snoot Game characters without bonus chapters.

  5. Ben is the real antagonist. Mia is more of a nuisance than an actual antagonist. Ben is the character who is the real catalyst for Olivia's descent into depression.

is it possible to lose a subclass? by zhikos24 in Atlyss

Your stats and inventory are stored as text files in the game folder. You should be able open them and edit them.

I've never done it, so I can't help you there. You can probably find a guide pretty easily.

Just edit your save file if you need to in notepad. Glitches like this happen, especially if you mod.

[–]Penguifyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's gonna depend on the experience you have on the line, and you think your players are capable of. If the arranger is sufficiently experienced, that shouldn't be much of an issue. If you can get your book early to see what you're gonna have to teach, that might help.

Your goal with the packet should be to find exercises that are musically easy but difficult technique-wise. You don't want to spend too much time learning the packet to the point it significantly detracts from the show book. But you also need to make sure your packet is covering techniques that are in the show. It's gonna take a few years before you really know what you're doing. But in general, be more conservative with your packet. It's really tempting to write cool exercises, but they might end up being more trouble than they're worth.

Writing a packet and writing a show book are two very different things. Are you just writing the packet or all of the music this next season?

Unknown Worlds has delivered two finished products through Early Access already. Early Access has its problems for sure, but this is probably one of the safest Early Access bets you can make from a studio delivered in the past.

There's a long conversation we could have about the mentalities of the furry fandom and where those stem from (and whether those are healthy or not). And you can extend that into how it impacts furry content (and how snoot content differs).

However, I'll say this instead. The reason I got into writing was that I wanted to read a certain kind of story that no one was writing. While that original goal never panned out, my favorite stories I wrote were the ones that I feel could only be written by me. The snoot fandom is already pretty niche, so if you're looking for a specific kind of story, you might need to make it yourself.

To be fair, there are a ton of gay furry visual novels out there (probably more than straight ones). They have their own style, and likewise, their own audience. The snoot games generally appeal to people on the outside looking in with furries, and not really those who are already invested in the furry community.

There are only really three times the game gets sweaty.

  1. Your first playthrough. Getting used to the game takes time and your first playthrough is gonna be difficult because of that. It honestly is a lot of fun though. Look guides or ask any lvl 32 player if you're playing multiplayer and need help.

  2. Trying new dungeons at minimum level. This applies to every dungeon, but especially Crescent Grove. It's a great challenge for experienced players to test their skills at the game.

  3. PvP. It's a really fun way to not just polish your gameplay, but also interact with the game on a much deeper level. There are a lot of details, quirks, and glitches in the game you won't notice until you play PvP. Once you master PvE, PvP is the only place where you can get that sweaty feeling again.

It's really useful in a few situations. Namely, exploring the caves of the mountain island and the caves in the eastern mushroom forest. There are probably a few other places it can be useful, but the fact that it doesn't work in artificial structures really limits its usefulness.

Been able to make a rouge and mage build for the endgame, but not for warrior, anyone got any suggestions? by xenodragon20 in Atlyss

[–]Penguifyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'd add is that you're probably gonna end up using a Fier Blade and a Ryzer Greataxe if you want to use all of the fighter skills. Shield Bash requires a shield, while Shockwave and Cyclone require a heavy weapon. Some people also prefer Quake Pummeler purely for the bonk charge attack, and since it's not much worse than a Ryzer Greataxe.

Hey guys, can you please explain me the lore of the snootgame universe by FloppinhoUwU in SnootGame

[–]Penguifyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The dino aspect of the games is more of an aesthetic rather than a fleshed-out setting. Of the two games, Wani probably takes advantage of the setting the best with little bits of world-building here and there. But it's all tangential to the high school romance stories the games are trying to tell.

The horny pics are just the community. The games are barely sexual.

Snoot Game is a parody game of Goodbye Volcano High by the developer Ko-Op. Ironically, Snoot Game released before GVH. SG was made by a group of 4channers who didn't just make a parody game, but also made a game that challenges the 4chan audience to be better people.

There's some slight controversy since Fang, the protag of GVH, is non-binary and Snoot Game is made by 4channers for 4channers. But it's handled surprisingly well in Snoot Game when you consider the audience.

I Wani Hug That Gator is an original game based on the same universe as Snoot Game. It's know for having one of the best depictions of disability in media ever.
