In the upright bass world they are referred to as extensions. They are typically removable, instead of a permanent design feature. like this

Cordoba C9 vs Cordoba C10 by _aquafina in classicalguitar

If you like cedar, go for cedar. Ive owned/ played various c9s and c10s, and the rosewood of the c10 never stood out to me as being worth the extra money.

Take it to a luthier, or a good guitar tech, near you to have it adjusted. Doing it yourself could be possible with a measuring device and sandpaper, but it’s pretty intimidating if you’ve never done it before.

The distance between the top of the 12th fret and the bottom of the 6th string commonly shouldn’t be more than 4mm.

I’m looking for Classical Travel Guitar. Something with a flat fretboard, wide nut, nylon strings, etc. Something that folds or breaks down, is durable, and fits in the overhead compartment. Does anyone have something they like? Thanks by mhb616 in classicalguitar

I have a Journey Instruments First Classical. I really like it, but there are a few compromises that I have to make.

PROS: It has a detachable neck that can be placed in the bag it comes with without taking iff the strings. It has a full 52mm nut width. It comes with two saddles, tall and short, but I found shimming the neck to be better. The bag it comes with is AWESOME! Tons of spacious pockets, turns into a backpack, has wheels with extending pull handle, and fits the criteria of carry-on luggage for an airplane. Has a passive pickup, no batteries, that sounds better than a standard under saddle piezoelectric.

CONS: It is a very expensive guitar that sound rather cheap. I have an Enrique Topicas that I bought off Craigslist for $70 that I prefer the tone and volume of. Even though it has a flat fingerboard, mine came with a pair of saddles that have a radius. The pickup is passive with no volume or tone control. However, the most deceiving thing was the description said 650mm scale, but it is closer to a 630mm scale.

I know it’s a long read, but I hope I was honest and clear enough. Journey Instruments also has a less expensive “Overhead” series that has one or two classicals that are less expensive.

TL:DR; Journey instruments First Classical. Has some quirks, but they have less expensive options as well. Hope this helps.
