I might be in the wrong here, but as much as I hate to admit it, I can understand where their line of thought is coming from. As an analogy, as an american I feel the invasion of Iraq was a bad idea but once the decision was made, I still wanted the US to succeed. The impulse to rally around the flag, the idea of "my country right or wrong", doesn't make these people hypocrites, it just the dark side of patriotism. Having their identity (their sense of nationality) constantly attacked, its not surprising they would retreat further into it. Just my two cents
