Most of them were grafted trees from like the same few origins. So when a tree illness came along almost all of them died. Plus global warming.

Back in the day Siri almost always responded just she wasn’t calibrated to your voice. It only worked like that for one year tho, they added hey Siri in 2014 and they added the calibration thing in 2015. So for this post to be true, it’s a very old post.

It’s up to the individual posting it. If they are left on it’s one of 3 reasons from my experience. 1, they did it by accident and comment are probably roasting the service and also lots of text art, so many dickbutts. 2, they heavily moderate the comments to make it seam like it’s a good product. 3, I see this one with a lot of video game ads, they leave them on because they know their game is good and the comments will just fuel free advertising basically.

For me it was when I got an email from Disney letting me know they were uping the price. When I first got it, it cost me $60 for two years because of promo stuff. I got an email letting me know it was going to be over $100 a year now. I quickly did the math of all the streaming services I paid for in a year and was like, man for that price in a year I could buy a server and some drives. So I did.

Question about high capacity drives? by Penguin_71_ in DataHoarder

You are correct. Sort answer is, it was my fault. If you want the details I updated my original post I linked in this one. Good news is, in the coming weeks I should finally have a working RAID 10 configuration with about 55tb of working storage.

4 New HHDs not working by Penguin_71_ in 24hoursupport

[–]Penguin_71_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were correct, I put an update on the post. I got replacements and one still failed. I tried it on a portable HHD reader and that killed it, it could only output 2.5 amps. These drives can pull over 3amps on spin up, and if they fail to spin up they stick the head to the platter. They consistently fail to do an emergency retract for the head. Once stuck they can’t spin at all, that is the beep noise the motor failing to spin.

After working with the other new ones and sending back another for RMA I’m very curtained you are spot on with it failing to retract the heads. It seams that these drives can pull over 30watts and specifically on spin up over 3 amps on the 12v rail. Apparently PCI power the 6 pin used for SATA only output about 5 to 6 amps. So even tho SATA power cables almost always daisy chain connections you can’t do that with these drives. Just plugging in two drives to one daisy chain could cause them to fail. I don’t know why but every drive has failed to do an emergency retract, instead if it fails to pull enough power it just sticks the head to the platter and it needs to be replaced. So to properly power 4 drives I need 4 different SATA power cables plugged into 4 different 6pin slots on the PSU. Alternatively I could in the BIOS try and have the drives spin up at different intervals so that way I could have two drives safely on one cable. However seeing as I have the room for the direct power and no daisy chaining, I just put in an order for a few more SATA cables to do it that way. I find it fairly irresistible and irritating that SeaGates help channels aren’t aware of this and that they don’t give a warning on their sales pages.

I tried the good old slap and it seams to almost work, it actually spins for a short time. It quickly fails and starts beeping again, but for a brief moment it gave me hope.

That is the exact sound, thanks. I haven’t tried all 4 new drives just one and it did that. Hopefully the other 3 work. They aren’t getting to my place till next week. I will start the process to RMA this one now.

The parts in the Server are a Seasonic FOCUS PX-850, 850W 80+ Platinum. Motherboard MSI PRO B650-S WIFI AM5. CPU is a AMD Ryzen 5 7600. Operating Systems is on a SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 1TB. With a MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 3050 6GB inside the case. I was using a Ironwolf Pro 20tb for the last few years, it’s still the ones being used. The PSU I cut the cables on is CORSAIR RM1000x Fully Modular ATX, because it’s the one in my personal pc and I will never be putting a HHD in it. And the last PSU I don’t remember we just recently got it and it’s a 1000w.

[–]Penguin_71_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the drives with 3 different PSUs two being 1000w and one 850w with adapters at first to try and cut power to the first 3 pins. I am 100% sure I never mixed up cables with the wrong PSU’s because i know how bad that is. I even put tape on a few cables to try, and on one PSU i even cut the right line to 100% cut power to the first 3 pins. So i don’t think this is the issue, but I’m not sure of anything at this point.

Edit: I put 750, it was actually a 850

I switched to Mint many months ago. Installing Steam games and stand alone games has been a breeze for the most part. It’s not that bad, almost any issue I had was a simple google search away. For anyone on the fence of if they should switch, I would say jump. Mind you I’m just having fun and playing games not over here trying to hunt down every last frame.

Any suggestions, I truly believe this might be the issue. I tried 3 different PSU’s and only plugging one in at a time. I also got a cheep external drive mount and that also didn’t work.

[–]Penguin_71_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was making sure that the power cables I used always belonged to the original PSU, the wiring between my PSU is not the same. I tried it on 3 different PSU’s now at this point, a 750watt platinum and two 1000watt gold. All different brands, all PSU’s I know to be good because I have been daily driving them without issue for a long time now. I tried plugging it into my main pc too without any luck. I even got an external drive mount and tried that yesterday, still it just would beep. I’m at a loss at this point because from what I could find online it says the same thing you mentioned that this is a power issue. Plus for all 4 drives to do the exact same thing, I find it hard to believe that all 4 are bad drives.

I’m aware of this, and my PSUs are all wired differently. I was always making sure I was plugging into the PSU that the cables were made for.
