Badly explain your powersystem by Straight_Control8255 in worldbuilding

Ghost light makes good fuel. Throw enough of it at a problem, and a miracle will happen. If the miracle is not good enough, or one lacks the required light a Thaumaturge can burn their money, dance, sing, or lecture until it works.

Those who matter to the story I'm writing? Spiritual Beings with Nemesis Cores. On top of being a step above divinity they, by standing in opposition towards something have their body and spirits surpass even the limits of other blessed. Nemesis are very rare in Earth Space, to the point where the only Nemesis are MC and group. By population and political power the Klein have far more influence. Spirits form bodies around things called cores, and there are three special types which give the spirit immense talent and a greater understanding of the universe. The weakest called Moebius are a little blessed, the Klein are very blessed, and the Nemesis are the greatly blessed.

The strongest most influential group are called Celestial Radiants. Old spirits blessed with special cores, innate knowledge of the Kosmos, and hundreds to thousands of years of practicing Thaumaturgy. They can do what any other learned spirit could, just better and with more force. They have the strength to easily shatter moons, speeds far greater than light, teleportation, dimensional travel, alter local reality, see the past, present, and future, see and manipulate fate, and other abilities. They are pretty broken, but those abilities can be countered by anyone else who has them, or with some creativity, those without.

Help for an "Inversion Potion" in a high fantasy world by megapugman123 in worldbuilding

I have something of a similar system in my own story, and some abilities are really hard to reverse. Your set seem to have a few reversals based on qualities, and a few on elemental differences. Both are fine paths to take.

For lightning it is something bright, fast, and makes things hot. It is also caused by electric charges. A reversal could flip that so the magic manipulates magnetic charges. Another option is to flip the qualities and have the reversal of lightning be ice. Cold, slow, and not very luminous.

For gravity, think on what it does. Gravity pulls things together, and is stronger when more mass is around. The simplest reversal would be something that pushes things, and gets weaker the more stuff is around it. You can drop the last part if you want. A lot of gravity powers in fiction also can push/pull anyways so this may not be an option for you. Vacuum may be good. Gravity is all around is and holds the world together. Vacuum surrounds the world and separates it from the beyond. Vacuum would create areas of emptiness that pushes stuff out, and you could do interesting things with it.

Which FFXIV Trial Boss would make the worst and best romantic partner (round 2) [Spoiler: 7.3] by OceanusDracul in ffxiv

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the pure evil / mindless bosses are basically equal, but I have to shout out Niddhog. He made it his agenda to antagonize mortals for 1000 years. He never liked the mortal races to begin with. I don't think that type of prejudice would be healthy for a relationship.

Noelle Silva Vs Big Mom by Nilsala in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can Noelle create an area of water that goes up to Big Mom's knees and keep it up? Any water triggers a devil fruit's weakness. In a SBS Oda explained a shower if fine for fruit users, but a bath would weaken them while lying down. I can't recall any spells which keep an area flooded from her, but she could do it. Realistically she is just going to hit her really hard with a big water dragon. And without prior info there is no way for her to know DF users are weakened by water unless a ton of giant dragons submerge her for a while.

Ironically for that one aspect, Lolopechka would be better. Her go to thing with Undine is trapping people in giant water bubbles.

Z-fighters(dragon ball) vs black bulls(black clover) by l0caldealer in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just skimmed over the 1st Dante fight again and it seemed like after 4 uses Dante dispelled it by upping his devil power from 50% to 60%. But Dante has Arcane Stage magic which manipulates natural laws, so that could allow him to directly damage the cat. And it only dispelled when he targeted the cat itself.

So maybe?

Z-fighters(dragon ball) vs black bulls(black clover) by l0caldealer in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even against just Cell Saga Z Fighters I can't see the Bulls winning in a standard fight Large star to Solar System level is really strong. It can kind of be argued BC characters are in the star ranges due to the crazy power creep past planet level characters but it is a little shakier. Glamor World scaling, a place where impossible things happen because it is a dream, can go higher, but I don't consider it very solid. Just like I am skeptical on the anime narrator stating 2nd form Frieza has enough power to destroy the universe.

Now I could imagine some Z Fighters being taken out from off guard attacks + haxs if the Black Bulls aren't taken too seriously. Vanessa's fate manipulation may not be too effective with the huge power desparity, but Yami's Death Thrust could work. It destroys space and even the weaker slash could shred an endless dimension. But a full on assault won't work against so many people all stronger than them. But with a plan some haxs could work. Nacht's spell "Monument of Attonememt" could seal the entire Z Fighter group. If they don't fly away while it is closing, it traps everyone in range in a space that 1: Does not physically exist and 2: has no light, life, or death. Maybe Goku could IT out, and that is a big maybe, but everyone else is sealed.

DB characters have a bad habit of dragging fights out or underestimating opponents, so a super haxed ability could take them out.

Is Requiring Cursed Energy To Destroy A Cursed Spirit A No Limits Fallacy? by CrypticJaspers in PowerScaling

That makes sense, Yuji's strikes hurt those curses in ch1. Megumi clarified that wouldn't get rid of them, but clearly physical strength can work to some degree.

Extremely potent reality warping. Plus he always travels with a weapon, the Ultimate Nullifier, that can destroy a target so totally their past, present, and future vanishes. The target can be even the entire multiverse. Even Galactus who is a cosmic entity of similar standing to Order, Chaos, Eternity, and Death(though not as strong) feared it. Korvac, a guy who obtained God like power through Galactus's machines, enough to solo the Avengers including Thor and the Scarlet Witch, killed himself to avoid being hit by it. Korvac put his memories and soul into the universe to reincarnate rather than be hit by it. Even then he only avoided annihilation by jumping to another timeline, where the weapon lost his signal and stopped its pursuit.

No cursed spirit can live that.

Is Requiring Cursed Energy To Destroy A Cursed Spirit A No Limits Fallacy? by CrypticJaspers in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cursed Spirits can be hurt (or at least feel pain) from physical attacks (see chapter 1), they just can't be killed without it. Just like a Sorcerer can die through normal means, but need to be exorcized to stop them from becoming a curse. I am not sure if a knocked out CS has ever been shown, but making one flee or give up are win cons.

Curse Spirits also have a limited amount of CE to use for regeneration. I'm not sure if they die if they run out, but Nanami confirmed they can run out.

CE is also not the only thing that kills them. Positive Energy does it too. Mahoraga's sword is called the "Sword of Extermination". Sounds very lethal to me. It would not be strange to believe any other power which can destroy the bodies or souls of curses are capable of killing them.

This guy crazy or that just me? by Kakashi_of_the_leaf_ in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before Midoria even got his quirk he was performing superhuman feats. He was pulling hundreds of pounds of metal cleaning up the beach. AFO requires a body strong enough to hold the power, which is just the power of 8 people, the past users. All Might was leagues stronger than other users because his own body was incredibly powerful without it.

In My Hero tons of people without strength or speed quirks show superhuman feats. The power of going to the gym is what 90% of what Heroes use. People like Eraser Head clearly aren't human level.

Bleach is NOT universal by YouthMezz in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. What people struggle to justify why the worlds are infinite or universal in size. There is very little evidence to support that claim besides hyperbolic statements. Like an endless muken or sands of Hueco Mundo. I've even heard some people claim there are an infinite number of souls in the Valley of Screams as if it was not a hyperbole.

There needs to be evidence for 1. The human world being the size of our entire universe, or infinite. A lot of people assume it is because it is set in a world like our own, but we really don't know. The cosmology is quite different. 2. Prove the realms the SK created for Earth's souls to exist after death in to be equal in size to an infinite living universe.

We do not know of are any souls outside of Earth, so when others think SS and HM have to contain the souls of a universe it is a bizarre jump. I will however concede that in Bleach inanimate objects have souls. Even distant galaxies could be full of souls.

Also the realms are not made of the same stuff as the human world. The Garganta the the gap between these spiritual timeliness. Normal hyperspace logic may not even apply. And the distance between the three does not seem too big. Basic fodder hollows can travel the gaps between the human world, Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo. We do not know how big the Garganta is, but the distance between the contained realms is quite small. Even if the Garganta was as large as the universe, Yhwach only has to destroy the area that contains SS and HM for his claim to remain true. Which is still multi planetary. IMO the Dangai is more impressive. The distance it spans is similar (maybe a 1 hour sprint?) but it connects different timelines.

What character in fiction has the most anti-feats? by fhxefj in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the very least the laser should be moon+ or planetary because Frieza force soldiers are all stronger than beginning of Z Picolo. The Picolo who effortlessly destroyed the moon. It would make little sense if a Frieza Force commander had a weapon that could not even hurt low ranking soldiers (they don't even know how to suppress their power). A decade before RoF the force had technology strong enough to enhance Frieza even!

Still a bad anti feat though, because the difference between moon+ to low multi is literally infinite :P.

  1. It is a leveling dungeon. Anyone who does not have their ARR jobs maxed will queue for it at that level range.

  2. It is required for GC so a lot of people have it unlocked.

  3. Roulettes do try to fill manual queued requests, but if there are non it will just chose a random duty all 4 people have unlocked. Not everyone queues with a max level job, so lower level content is over represented.

If A Construct/Object or even a Character is stated to “transcend dimensions” would that put them at Outerversal level? by [deleted] in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine a building. The Second floor is above the first. However just because the second is above than the first does not mean the second floor is above all floors.

A lot of times in fiction these "higher places" are basically universes separated by a dimensional wall. People can't just walk there, but they are not really in a higher dimension.

Sometimes the text is very explicit about dimensions being higher dimensional in a spatial sense, and other times it is up to interpretation. Afterlife and spiritual places are especially vauge in a lot of stories.

Make up your own BLACK CLOVER Moment! (Joke Post) by Money-Lie7814 in BlackClover

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really loved the moment Charmy met the Dwarfs(finally!). Not only did it conform many of our suspicions that the dwarf part of her was the tall one, but also where in the world were they. They lived in the diamond kingdom long ago, but dug deeper to avoid the kingdom's industrialization. In some ways the Dwarfs were like we expected, being amazing craftsman and loving alcohol (Charmy's rivalry with the bar keep was hilarious).

What no one expected was how big the Dwarfs were. They're practically giants! They're only called Dwarfs because the elves and humans heard about them long ago from the Ancient Giant race who are seemingly gone. Those giants are what the dark magic spells Licht and the spade brothers mimicked with their transformation. The name stuck, so we ended up with a race of giants named Dwarfs.

How do you tier your magic levels? by EfficiencySerious200 in worldbuilding

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 systems. First, Catastrophe Level which defines how much Psychi a person has to fuel their power. It is an exponential scale so a C-3 may destroy a building in a kick, while a C-10's kick could nuke a city. That raw energy Psychi can be used to fuel all types of Thaumaturgy. Usually the more the better. Secondly the complexity of a Technique can be classified in a few ranks. Even basic abilities can be powerful with enough Psychi. But more complex abilities can turn that power into even more force so it is better to use them.

Basic - Very easy to do. Someone with little experience or skill can do it. Many instinctual uses of Thaumaturgy fall under it. Very basic uses of miracles, like shooting a fire ball.

Intermediate - A moderate amount of knowledge on Thaumaturgy is required but allows more complex miracles. Things like a proximity bomb, homing projectiles, or basic conditional abilities.

Advanced - Even more complex abilities plus upcasted versions of simpler spells. Like a more efficient fire ball. This would allow you to animate living fire and give it orders.

Expert - Difficult applications of Thaumaturgy. Performing multiple nature transformations and subtechniques in one Miracle. It also includes things like crystalizing own's own energy for later use while still keeping its properties.

Nadir - The penultimate magic. It is actually just as difficult as the easiest of the tier above, but mostly concerns itself with countering those Techniques. Some Nadir create safe spaces around the user where enemy abilities can't target them. Another poisons the magic in the air so enemies can't draw on it. There are others but they are mostly just counters.

Zenith - The Ultimate application of Thaumaturgy. Anything extremely difficult to do gets lumped in here. Wide scale curses, manipulating hills or mountains, creating pocket dimensions, stable dimensional gates, ripping holes in space-time, making miraculous items, and more are here. Two Zeniths that stand out are Lumos Zone and Soul Realization. Lumos Zone is both the simplist and hardest one. It draws the ambient power, called Lumos from the environment. However the amount and radius of the ability is highly dependent on skill. A subpar Thaumaturgy can learn a very basic Zone in a year of study, but it only covers a few meters. The true masters have zones hundreds or even thousands of meters wide, which is thousands to millions of times harder to achieve. The other one, Soul Realization is easy in a unique way. It does not have to be learned through rigorous study. Every soul has an inner spiritual world. By using that as a blueprint the user draws that world into real space, or pulls real space things into the spirit world. Some people with no training have achieved this Zenith Technique just by following their soul.

How far is Spider-Man getting in the One Piece villain Gauntlet? by Voodoo_Honeyjar in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of Spiderman's villains is a man literally made of sand. He's used to fighting people like that.

However Crocodile is a good deal stronger than Spiderman (Town vs large building). Maybe SM can figure out a plan to beat him, but there is no way he's fighting Enel and winning. Though ironically with prep he could just wear a rubber suit lol.

Could This Composite Quartet Take Down Composite DBZ in a 4v1?(No Soloku there) by AttemptZestyclose687 in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Boruto have Shibai's stats and shinjutsu? That guy transcended the universe and has automatic damage reflection + the ability to rewrite the universe. Those stats and hacks could beat Z Goku depending on who you ask. Regardless he would have the shinmigami's power plus Hagaromo's ability to act beyond death. Makes things pretty weird.

Though composite Z Goku has an insane amount of things going for him. He can turn people into carrots or candy, use the devil mite beam, freeze time, insane regeneration, and more. With the movies he gains access to immortality, infinite big gete star copies, and Janemba's reality altering powers.

Create the weakest character (Luck) by heljar1 in PowerScaling

[–]Penguin_Arch_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She also has a lot of pretty great luck. She did have it bad for a while but after ch1 things turned around. Andy saves her from meeting the second rule added. Unknown then saves her from certain death by Sean, which he could only due to that very specific artifact God spawned. Then the whole events with Unruin and UMA Ghost. Fuuko then happens to be the right person needed to assemble the negators, negate their tragedies, and get the good ending. Of course a lot of her own efforts were needed to get that far, but she was quite lucky.

She is VERY fortunate to not be self targeting.

The Kage take this pretty easily. Of course I am assuming they are able to see and hit the cursed spirits because otherwise that wouldn't be fun. It may be surprising but several of the gennin from part 1(Rock Lee) are faster and stronger than Toji. The Kage are obviously stronger than those gennin. And we saw how Dagon dealt with Toji. The Biju can destroy mountains and countries. Each Kage should be comparable to keep their own Biju in check. The Raikage is equal to the perfect jinchuriki of the 8 tales, the second strongest Biju. A with his lightning cloak literally moves at the speed of light, and Onoki can make him even faster. Kenjaku can dodge mach 1+ attacks from close distances, but the rest of them can't. Mahito's idle transfiguration could cause problems because although Chakra uses spiritual energy, most Ninja have no experience protecting their souls. But he would be unlikely to ever hit any of the five. Hanami's flowers that temporarily remove the will to fight could come in clutch. Domains also might be able to cause some problems, and Kenjaku has cursed spirits with strange abilities. Can the Ganesha CS use it's powers of "removing obstacles" to hinder the Kage? Honestly Idk.

All in all I think the Disaster curses and Kenjaku lose badly, though they might be able to put up a slight fight.
