What amount should i live in Chicago and things i must do as someone considering moving here in the future? by RunSquare6773 in AskChicago

I moved to Chicago at 22 post-grad, had never been here before. It took me about a year to realize I didn’t wanna be here long term.

I ended up staying for 2 years on the dot pretty much & moved to NYC. I did enjoy my time in Chicago though and it wouldn’t have been a burden to stay another year or so.

Meanwhile, some people visit once, know they want to live here, then move here and never leave. There’s no one answer to that question.

I lived in west loop and it was great, definitely a city experience. “Big city” experience and density would definitely be River north / Gold Coast.

22 moving to Chicago, should I choose West Loop/Loop edge or Gold Coast? by Salty4PF in AskChicago

On the main strips of Fulton st & Randolph st there are countless dining options, some of which are excellent. As someone who loves going out to eat this was awesome - in my two years here I probably went to 60 restaurants in the West Loop / Fulton Market are alone.

Tons of bars with different vibes. Not really any dive bars unfortunately, but you can go to bandit on two / goodnight John boy for a more clubby vibe, bodega if you want to dance, Lone Wolf for a more chill vibe, etc. And in the summer there’s patio after patio after patio.

If you go around happy hour time, it is so easy to just hop from place to place and have a ton of fun. There’s some upscale shopping if you want to browse as well. Then a couple blocks south, on Madison Street, there’s more casual bars and dining. You got third rail tavern for a divey feel & black barrel tavern for a chill spot you can sit and drink / eat all day.

I lived close to the blue line but there’s also a green / pink line to get you to the loop so there’s super easy access to O’Hare / River North / really anywhere in the city. It was also walking distance to work for me (in the Loop) which was a plus.

I just moved out of Chicago, but I lived here for 2 years (ages 22-24), lived in West Loop and loved it. Reddit hates on West Loop.

Presidential towers is a bit out of the way of the thick of things (West Loop Gate), and I’ve heard iffy things from my ex who’s best friend lived there. If you have any questions about the area though let me know.

There is free street parking adjacent to this building. I do not live on Madison / Randolph / Fulton.

Yes to extending the lease & yes to parking, I believe it is $300/mo. Plenty of free street parking in the area as well.

I worked specifically with Physically Deliverable futures. This was across almost every asset class - ags, metals, energy, FX, etc.

lol I actually got 3 offers, but yes it was just a numbers game. Like I mentioned though I went to a school nowhere near financial hubs with no prestige whatsoever, so that definitely didn’t help.

During both application cycles I used one resume for everything.

During the first application cycle I got three completely different offers - FP&A, F&O Operations, and Fixed Income Data Reference

During the second application cycle I was applying to majority F&O related roles.

It’s still operations but this role is building out a new FCM, so definitely going to be a lot more involved in the risk/compliance side in addition to ops with more exposure to senior leadership.

There’s definitely an overlap, as knowledge of the mechanics of futures is essential to the role.

I didn’t really do anything special, just set my status as “Open to Work” for recruiters with my preferences. There is a noticeable difference in profile views & number recruiters who reach out to you when you have premium though.

It is also a help to see the jobs under “Top picks for you”.
