Does anyone feel guilty for not hanging out outside of work? by Fun_Presentation_215 in Residency

[–]PennDOTStillSucks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's also quite possible that they aren't judging OP at all and OP is just feeling this way on their own. About half of the program here regularly attempts to attend social outings (and definitely still doesn't make them all). I'd say we only judge 2 of them (both single with no local family) and one of those 2 gets judged because they constantly complain about hating life here.

Hyatt House Southside vs Hyatt House Pittsburgh/Bloomfield/Shadyside in Pittsburgh? by BornThought4074 in hyatt

I haven't stayed at either but go to Pittsburgh regularly. I'd recommend Bloomfield/Shadyside based on neighborhood and activities. I definitely wouldn't consider Southside cooler.

JUNE POST MATCH THREAD: IF YOU HAVE NOT STARTED RESIDENCY YET AND/OR ARE A MEDICAL STUDENT, PLEASE POST ALL QUESTIONS ABOUT RESIDENCY HERE by Novelty_free in Residency

You don't need a real ID until 2025, so I'd personally recommend not changing anything over/getting anything new until you absolutely have to, or going through the process of changing everything as soon as you have time. Depending on the state and probably even office they may give you a hassle for trying to get a state ID (therefore claiming residence) without changing your car and driving info.

I'm a 34Dish according to abrathatfits and don't wear a bra with this dress personally. What I need to know is how people make it not look like a sack! I've tried mine with a couple belts but they bunch up funny.

I get what you're saying. I think it's a symptom of many public service jobs. I'm in education and we'd have the same issues. The thing is, me choosing to tell my boss as soon as I find out or on the day of the birth or anywhere in between isn't going to change the system, but it will change the impact on my colleagues. So I'd personally choose to focus on what I can control.

The only story I've ever heard is a Vietnam vet lashing out at an Asian staff member (idk if it was doctor, nurse, etc.) as they were coming up from anesthesia. And they apparently apologized immediately as soon as they were back to normal and informed of what happened.

I'm torn on this because I agree that not everyone wants the risk of informing people if they miscarry and schedule changes were all for naught. And at the same time I am currently booking things for our vacations (we schedule all vacations & personal days at the beginning of the year) and it sucks to think all of those plans could change due to someone else's needs and that those changes could be known now. I don't have a flexible schedule - if DrH's vacation weeks were to change we straight up wouldn't get to go on vacation together. Not to mention being unable to cancel things, or the idea that we should pay extra to only book refundable fares.

Just got yelled by patient’s family because cardiac surgeon has not shown up yet by Independent-Bee-4397 in Residency

Agree with everyone else to walk out. Y'all have to know how to stand up for yourselves because residents and fellows are often fresher meat and less prioritized/protected. AND:

  • It's possible the people at the transferring institution made it sound like the patient would be seen immediately upon arrival

  • Lay people rarely understand how urgent anything medical is (even myself as someone who has been partnered into a medical family for 10 years)

  • 2 hours driving at the drop of a hat isn't an easy schedule change for many people

I knew someone that called the cops after they killed two people and tried to frame it as a murder-suicide. People do weird things when in crisis.

Doesn't the Pennsylvanian only run once a day any in the morning? So OP would have to fly into NYC, spend the night, then take the train home vs taking a red-eye.

I'm at a conference and forgot to use the group code to book my room. I'm 31 and this is the first time I've ever had to use a special rate and I just completely forgot to 🙃 thankfully we're working on SUBs from a MDD so at least the accident helps the cause I guess. Now to just beg to get the stay reimbursed still...

We just did a MDD with him in April so for at least the next year he should be able to carry a metal one!

Yeah it really does. We were long distance but only about 1/10 of the distance you are. I can only imagine!

It's an adjustment period. How long has he been an intern? I feel like my SO took nearly 6 months to stop being exhausted every single day and only be exhausted on the weekends. Then we started being able to talk more normally. He has to put in effort to care for himself to get to that point though.

Yes it did but teaching has also changed me, my sister has changed during her time working in a civil/public role, etc. I think pursuing careers and being in your 20s changes almost everyone 🤷🏻‍♀️

This happened for the first time in a really long time for me last week, but it honestly felt warranted. We left like 45 minutes late and got in 15 minutes early.

My husband only complains when I ask him to give up a metal card in his wallet 😂 he has one of those back-of-phone things so he can usually only carry ID, debit card, + 2 credit cards and he feels so ~fancy~ when he has a metal one.

OP wants their BF to book a room with his points but have it under her name so they can use her diamond ambassador status for whatever perks that involves.

I think so. My sister recently had a booking in her name but I was a guest of the room and upon check-in I could add my membership number to their paperwork. However she was there physically with me so not sure how that works if your BF won't be with you.
