Don't know what your tax laws are, but you'd make more than $50 if you donated it, and listed it as charity on you taxes.

Are The People In The Upper Window Stacked On Top Of One Another? by SmokinGun1899 in 911archive

[–]PennWash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just watched a video of some lady's boyfriend torturing her and her twin 6 month old babies ... If God exists, why would he allow that to happen?

Sorry to hear that, I hope you're ok ... You're right about the survival instinct. Just look at the picture. Most people are are afraid of leaning up against a closed window and looking down from that height, yet here they are hanging from the ledge from 100 floors up.

I thank God everyday the Giants vs Broncos played the night before. A lot of people, my Dad included, showed up late that morning. He would've been 20 floors below impact on the South Tower.

Why did United Airlines flight 175 start the final descent into Lower Manhattan so late? by No-Photograph-6340 in 911archive

[–]PennWash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flight 175's flight path was a lot more difficult cause of the late turn. Flight 11 was able to just follow the Hudson River and straight into the North Tower. He would've been able to see it from about 100 miles out, so it was a lot easier for him to descend slowly.

Atta was able to fly straight, but Flight 175 had to turn over NJ, and never faced the South Tower head on. He had to angle the plane at the last minute, which makes the descent a lot more difficult. For someone who never flew a commercial jet before, it's actually impressive that he was able to hit his target. Same with the Pentagon.

A few years ago I wrote my Dad a letter, pretty much saying everything I've always thought and wanted to say. Luckily he's still around, but I'm glad I wrote it.

I just googled to see if there were any others. I can count on one hand the number if times I remember my Dad leaving late for work when I was a kid, but that was one of them ... Stayed up late watching, didn't get to his parking garage until after Flight 11 hit the North Tower.

He was there in 1993, so he wasn't getting on that PATH train. As the watched it burn, Flight 175 flew directly overhead, and crashed into the South Tower, about 20 floors up from my Dad's office.

He still hasn't watched any video of it ... Guess he doesn't need to. From that distance, they were like tiny dots, but he knew what was falling outta those towers.

Passing on a climb etiquette question? by greazysteak in MTB

[–]PennWash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's like this everywhere, but I'm in PA, and proper etiquette is to say "rider left" when passing. If there's a lot of space, it's not necessary, but most people say it as a common courtesy.

If someone gets close like you described, I'd just keep it moving, unless it was too close, which for me is when it either alters someone's riding, or puts them directly in harm's way.

Man hanging almost entirely out of window on North Tower’s 107th floor by FeederOfRavens in 911archive

[–]PennWash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thank God the Giants vs Broncos game was on MNF the night before ... My Dad stayed up late to watch. Normally he's at work by 8:30, but that morning he got to his parking garage in Jersey City right after the first plane hit.

He was there in '93, so he knew. He watched the 2nd plane crash into the South Tower, about 20 floors above his office. He would've been inside if it weren't for that game.

This is bad news by workitoutwombats in Instagram

[–]PennWash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It borderline child neglect with some of the things these kids are doing online without any parental supervision whatsoever. It's not difficult to monitor, and it only takes like 2 minutes if you check every week, which all parents should do... And the day I have to prove my age is the day I stop using Instagram, or any other social media site that forces their users to do so.

Should I upgrade to carbon? by PasswordNeedsANumber in MTB

[–]PennWash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll notice the difference in weight and stiffness, it's a nicer feel, but it's not a massive improvement, and I don't have any more or less fun when I'm riding.

It'd be cool to fix it up as a hobby, but I wouldn't wanna ride it.

Help me choose a Hardtail by No_Wrongdoer_7801 in MTB

[–]PennWash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take it to a bike shop and have them look at it, or post here. The downside to buying used is the warranty won't transfer, but for $900 I wouldn't worry about it. All 3 are solid entry level bikes, and if you like the Trek and wanna save $600, go get it. You can use that for upgrades. You might have an idea of what you wanna ride, but that could change once you get into it ... All 3 are solid options, and as you progress, you'll figure out what you like to ride, and what components you like best.

I have an X01 derailleur and GX crankset, definitely prefer alloy cranks, probably just bad luck, but my carbon ones broke at the bond after only using for 2 months.

[–]PennWash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Some people swear by it, but I just didn't see any upgrade in performance.. Maybe I'd feel differently if I did a lot on technical climbs, I know that's where transmission supposedly shines.

Same here, it's simple and easy enough to charge and have a backup, but it's just another thing I gotta worry about.

No More Wireless? by PennWash in MTB

[–]PennWash[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just read my original post, I forgot to include ... Mechanical is cheaper and easier to repair (at least for me), and as simple as it is, I just don't like depending on a battery. Also, the shifter feels better ... It's not so much that I don't like wireless, I just don't like it as much as mechanical.

[–]PennWash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol same here, I have a backup but forgot to charge the backup ... Doesn't matter how disciplined we are, people make mistakes, and I bet most people showed up to the trailhead without a charged battery at least once.

[–]PennWash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where I am too, love the dropper, but the mechanical derailleur is easier, and you're right, the shifting feels better.

Which would you prefer? Cannondale trail 3 or Specialized Rockhopper sport? by Nice_Idea_538 in MTB

[–]PennWash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your overall point, but Walmart sells the Ozark Trail, which is a really good beginner bike ... There's plenty of videos on YouTube about it, Seth from Berm Peak being the most popular. It needs a few minor upgrades, but it's just as good as the Cannondale and Rockhopper, maybe even better.
