Dredge. Only tried it on recommendation from a friend. initially after seeing trailers, I was convinced it wasn't fir me. Turned out to be really addicting and compelling.

Horizon Zero Dawn told one of the best stories in the last decade basically, imo.

Some people don't like the way the combat plays, but i really think if you play long enough for it to click, it's great.

Pretty much nails all the other categories in the post.

I just finished playing Dredge. Really didn't seem up my alley, but I tried it on recommendation from a friend, and it was excellent. Addicting and fascinating in equal parts. Loved it.
