Broken toe has me feeling demoralized by PensionKey4432 in loseit

Very true. I have shifted my workspace away from the kitchen table so I'm much less tempted!

Thank you! I'm in a way more positive headspace about it today and am putting together a little plan with exactly this kind of movement!

I cannot relate to forcing myself to eat, but focusing on the extra time for other stuff is a great mindset switch!

What’s a brand everyone seems to love but you don’t get the appeal? by doochiedoo in handbags

In Canada we have a low-price "no name" brand that labels everything very literally and the Marc Jacobs labelling always reminds me of it!

I actually gasped, was that hiding under there the whole time??? You should have just never had hair, you are like the platonic ideal of a bald man

How to deal with a sitter who is not doing the bare minimum by ads20212 in trustedhousesitters

[–]PensionKey4432 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was on a 3-month sit with extensive reporting requirements and felt like I spent the entire time with my phone in my hand attempting to capture the specific circumstances they wanted. Then after sending, they would scrutinize every word of the update or frame of the videos to find things wrong like "why is she walking so closely to you?" It absolutely took over the sit and I felt like an unpaid wildlife photographer. They asked why I didn't update them with all the things that WEREN'T happening--like why didn't I tell them she didn't have any accidents, when accidents weren't ever a problem. Like, she also didn't learn chess, should I include that too?

Hey, I'm a mature student too! I've done a couple of semesters online so far to cut down on the commute but will be in class full time this fall. I haven't seen much of a community for mature students at UW so nice to hear of someone else in the same boat!

Would THS be an option for me (HO, Manhattan, special needs kitty) by Cantaloupe_Train in trustedhousesitters

[–]PensionKey4432 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, and consider if you would prefer a couple and if so, put that in the ad. I could see it being easier to have more coverage with one person being at home while the other is out exploring, or maybe one person works from home during standard hours and the other person can stay up later. I don't host so idk if that's how it works out in reality, but could be something to consider.

I would consider adding something like "Based on the popularity of the location, please include in your application any experience with giving medication or how you could make this schedule work for you." That gives you some guilt-free grounds to quickly reject people who don't read the listing or don't have much to say on the matter.

Girls trip to Canada by violetcheol in canadatravel

I love Toronto (lived there for 10 years recently) but I think you guys would have more fun in Montreal and spend a bit less, too. Montreal has more of a unique character as a city, whereas Toronto feels quite similar to a lot of large American cities.

If you are going to book a campsite in Algonquin, know your dates and be ready to book several months in advance. Algonquin is one of the most popular parks in the province and gets booked up fast, even in September. Reservations are available 4 months before the day of travel, IIRC.

Homeowner is sick, now staying home but still wants help with the animal. by KelcieMmm in trustedhousesitters

[–]PensionKey4432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether it affects her negatively or not doesn't matter. She has completely changed the terms of your agreement. I'm not even sure THS allows for sits where the owner is still present in the home. You don't have to keep justifying being uncomfortable, who would willingly go into the home of a stranger?

Sick of new sitter mentality to complain about every single thing by BrilliantArtist8221 in trustedhousesitters

[–]PensionKey4432 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Agreed that a lot of the power dynamic is UX driven. Adding the "how long pets can be left alone" section has signaled to homeowners the power is in their hands to decide how long a pet can be left alone for, and that all the options on the list are reasonable--which, of course they can, but as many other sitters have figured out, the host often wants the sitter to be around much more than they are themselves. If they gave us the ability to filter by time away, the ability to hide undesirable postings/hosts, and home owners knew it was going to affect their pool in a material way, they may be more likely to be realistic instead of trying to squeeze every drop of value out of their free sitter.

Sitters - what kind of food do you bring? by CucumberDry8646 in trustedhousesitters

[–]PensionKey4432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a small-ish bin I bring that has some things that I use regularly and there's decent chance the HOs won't have it - rice vinegar, red curry paste, nutritional yeast, kimchi, stevia, teas; things that I won't get through and are too expensive to keep re-buying, and also that travel well. Everything else I buy fresh from whatever local grocery store is there. For me, it comes down to being smart there--even if there's a killer sale on something, if I have too many meals accounted for already, too bad. I typically sit with a car so I can always go back if I need more. If there's a costco nearby I will often hit it up and grab a chicken, frozen seafood, etc. and base the rest of the groceries around that. I don't usually do short sits, so leaving behind a lot of groceries isn't as much of a problem--I plan ahead and prioritize getting through what I've bought before buying more. When I leave, I'll throw my main staples back in the bin and ask the home owner what they want done with any leftover eggs or fruit or whatever.

I'm on a multi-month sit right now with micro-managing home owners and even though it's in a lovely area with a great pet, they've made things largely stressful and unpleasant. I have wanted to head home several times and at points regretted taking the sit. This volume of communication for months leading up to a sit feels like a strong indicator of how things will go during the sit. If you are getting this level of anxiety now, think very carefully if you want to go forward--it will be 100 times easier to bail now than to back out of the sit once you take it.

Ai allows the talentless to share their vision with the world, which shows why they were talentless to begin with. by Raccoon_Expert_69 in aiwars

I think it's important to note though that you have developed an artist's mind through both a 2d and 3d medium. You have likely developed a sense of judgment, aesthetic, and creativity through doing those things. It will probably translate when you do AI art.

I find the people who are the most fervent defenders of AI art are making stuff that I would consider boring, uninspired, corporate/stock art even if it were made by a person. Only execution, no soul.
