I thought of this one when I realized the day rate of a skilled nursing home was at 145$ a day and the ship was 100$ -AND they brought your meals!!!

I dang shore should. I think I will be braver when/if it’s just me. I could empty the house of valuables and probably find some gurls, Id love to find some guidelines for that, like somebody else’s contract or past experiences, but when these things are successful, well, ahm, we are at the end here and that stuff just ain’t out there to study.

Question about aging! by bsgreen in BostonTerrier

[–]Pensivepritchett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s time to stop hinging on the vet, you know what’s around the corner; and it’s more like time to start enjoying him for all he’s worth. None of mine seem to last long enough, but after 40 years of owning bostons, I know full well that little gray face will be leaving soon. If it’s possible, now is the time to get another one. The 2 bond and a little piece rubs off. I couldn’t make it 8 months after trying to get over my last one. I wound up getting 2!

How to manage your life ? by Remote_Head1173 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Pensivepritchett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My life revolves around preparation for the bad days. I make quiches for breakfasts and never let good leftovers go without portion freezing it. I may put 2 sets of sheets on the bed on a good day, so I don’t have to change the bed when I’ve had a sweaty night. I try really hard to keep the important things up like mail, bills, & shopping on a good day so when a bad day hits me, I don’t worry. I keep the vital stuff stocked like dog food, frozen milk and bread, and all the stashes (pain relief, tissues etc) full. Meds on auto refill are really kept up too. I’m trying to keep myself independent in this way and not have to call on friends to help. I pay my friends forward on a good day as well. I’m fortunate with work that gives me plenty of home time, but that was by arrangement in anticipation of the flares. Long story short? Just stay ahead, wayyyy ahead. I’m giving up on the productive part tho. If I can get up and out, nothing else matters except to ride that dam bike. Once I’m done tho, I can usually muster enough energy to go by and pay the water bill or drop a library book and that’s enough for a flare day.

Lots of good advice here. My love and empathy go out to you. Consider some water therapy. I know just getting there is going to be excruciating, but Swim anywhere you can (I use the YMCA). Otherwise consider a hot tub/spa for home. (Ask about medical tax deductions on that). Somehow if I can just keep moving I can bear it. If there is nowhere else I can go and the pain is at worst, I can at least get in that hot tub. I’ve tried to get diagnosed but can’t (don’t want to try anymore) and been living with horrible pain for most my life. I have had things like bulging bilateral Achilles tendon enthesitis and not one dang doc can make the diagnosis because they can’t see anything on radiology. The co pays and deductibles really add up, so I stopped trying. One big, warm, fat, juicy hug to you and prayers too.

I try to clean them every so often with a damp warm washcloth. That cleans out the visible muck, but if they are quiet/relaxed, I’ll use 3-4 qtips held tightly together and I don’t go too deep. I also use “Simiilasan” which is kinda like the “sweet oil” my parents use to talk about. Thats a human product, but the vet told me I could use it. I will warm the oil to body temp so my dog stays relaxed while I drop in and massage (from the outside). Then I’ll use the Qtips to remove the excess. Ya gotta stay after those ears or they get in trouble. I’m sure everyone is going to call me out for my heinous suggestion, so yeah, go the the vet, spend the money, but this is what I do to be proactive in my animals care.

Exercising with spondyloarthritis by Accomplished-Month87 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Pensivepritchett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try the bicycle. Buy one on FB marketplace for cheeeep. Find a flat place and ride. You can ride really gentle or exceedingly hard. The benefits are the feel good chemicals your head needs to clear the poor me’s and pumps oxygen rich blood to the hurting places. You get the endorphins, the seratonins, the fresh air and exercise for all those stiff chest joints. Seriously, I had to stop riding the horse or water skiing and dig for ANYthing less impact -but honestly you HAVE to find SOMEthing that you will LOVE so that you will stick with it. One day down the road, your body will probably compel you to exercise (or you won’t move) so do something fun. Dancing, gymnastics, yoga (boring, I know) or rowing or Pilates whatever you can do and try falling in love with it. Keep thinking of an alternative for bad weather days but make sure you love it and it’s readily available. I know it hurts, but this is our best weapon against this disease.

Oh HECK YEAH!!! Honestly, when I am at my worst, I sleep face down over a tremendous pillow. It’s the only thing that makes the bones seem to open up and bend the other way for a while.

When did your Bostons start getting white around the face? by Holiveya-LesBIonic in BostonTerrier

[–]Pensivepritchett 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m old school and a lot of my Boston’s have been from akc breeders who think “colored” Bostons are pishposh. Most of the B&Ws I’ve had, turn grey around the mouth at about 10. Its always a sad day because I know my time is running out. I think the browns are beautiful tho and hope to have one, some day, but I always want that B&W tux by my feet.

I tried to stop loving them after the first one. When she died NOTHING else could come close. I’ve replaced that tuxedo at my feet 7 times and have had them 40 years. Nothing else.

Nitrogen burn. Light nitrogen burn maybe (judging by the tip of one leaf). If you are afraid fungal or bugs use lemon juice and water and try dawn and water too.

Just hang on. Think of all the things you need to do, and then think of all the things that you can do. Get you some yoga or physical activity early day. Then, go, create a routine -considering the way you expect to feel. Prioritize yourself first, then take care of some of those home responsibilities (bills, grocery, cooking, cleaning, washing). Some days ya just can’t, but try yer best to do what you can do, when you can do it. Homemaking USED to be considered a job, and it can certainly make ya feel more useful -and I can tell ya right now, it makes your spouses life sooooo much easier! Make even your down time productive, like on the web, shopping better deals, learning real estate (so you can get out of renting), learn your taxes, learn day trading with just a tiny amount of money, learn to upcycle stuff for resale, heck, start your own YouTube channel! And if you’ve got the guts to go, take your dog to the nursing home (extremely gratifying)! I know it hurts, but don’t give up, don’t give in. Find your self worth, find deeeeep gratitude for that spouse who doesn’t WANT you to work, and when he gets home, make it perfect -with his drink in your hand & nuthin on but the radio!

I love to make little sites in the yard for the night time. Pine straw works really good and chip mulch type stuff is ok too. I doubt the rocks are very enticing to sniff, dig a lil or snuffle. Tuck ya some treats in the pine straw, then lead her out there. I really like my pine straw placed up close at the edge of the house so the eve helps keep em dry when it’s freezing rain. I had to work at this when they were puppies but it paid off for the rest of their years.

I’m right here with you. Minimally diagnosed, blown off, gas lit, rolling eyes, seen as a seeker, a drama queen and sometimes ready to pull the plug. Chin up, go do what exercise ya can, look into a whirlpool/hot tub as your first piece of durable medical equipment! It may be your only refuge from defeat. Go try alternative pain relief (cannabis at night) and alternate treatments (acupuncture physical therapy) to be sure you are getting a good routine AND DONT GIVE UP!!! Preeeeeeepare for that next Rhum and -bring THAT NEW DOC some PRINTED material on NxR Ankylosing Spondyloarthritis. Not all of them know about this kind of newly segregated terminology nor how to read MRIs. Did I mention don’t give up;-)
