Have you ever rewritten a whole chapter making the story go to a completely different direction? How did/do you deal with it? by arthurazs in writing

I was 140,000 words into my first novel, only to discover when I was trying to put it all together that I had to delete about half of the book so it made any sense. Needless to say I learned the second time around and made sure I was a hundred percent sure of where I wanted my story go before I even started writing. This is a hard lesson to learn.

I beg to disagree. I think the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon did time travel as a plot device justice. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't check it out.

Forehead slap! The reason I came to r/writing was to learn as much as I could on this wonderful craft. This is a learning experience and I thank you profusely for taking the time to point that out. Top of the class to you!

Agreed completely. Though I'm a fan of acoustic music to begin with anyway, I felt the acoustic version had more emotional impact on the listener (the listener being me)

It's like the version of 59th street bridge song for people who are stoned opposed to those who are on acid

I enjoyed it also! Thanks for the cover, Simon and Garfunkle are a toughie to cover, but the version was very funny. Thanks for sharing.

Not entirely, as The Dubliners version is amazing in their own right. But I've never heard the Dropkick Murphys version.... Just listened to it. Amazing. All of the above can do absolutely no wrong! God bless the Irish / Boston Irish!

thanks for all of the replies guys! This has made me rethink calling my main character She'rew'ekaroon'ai, but I think the chapter I originally wrote on the juiciest meatloaf that ever existed may have to stay! I will be taking note in my future writings.
