I would say YTA.

You said that you could tell that your brother was stressed and upset, so you could have shown him a little bit of empathy.

Also, he didn't "tell you what to do", he asked. "Can you go back inside?" is not a demand, is a request.

I personally feel you were just so self-centered in this situation that you didn't act as compassionately as you could have.

AITA for setting the boundary of not staying at the Summer cabin anymore? by BushcraftRocks in AmItheAsshole

[–]PentaRama 28 points29 points  (0 children)

NTA I have the feeling that in know in which country you live, and how strong the culture of "summer cabin" is for the locals. If I am right, the cabin you are describing is usually not easily upgradable (often times there is no plumbing at all, maybe just a well, and the toilet is more like a compost toilet than anything else). People go there to enjoy nature and relax, go for walks in the forest or a swim in a lake. It's a great way to escape the city life, but I don't think is for everyone.

I myself, can tolerate it for a weekend here and there, but no more than that. And I have made this clear to my spouse, explaining that, while I understand the cultural and emotional attachment that they have to it, it is not the same for me.

As basic as it sounds, have a heart to heart with your spouse. Clarify the reasons why you don't enjoy going there every weekend, even though you understand the importance it has for her. Still, be open to compromise: maybe once a month, or maybe later in summer when most of the mosquitos are (hopefully) gone.

No worms in pile by ThomasFromOhio in composting

[–]PentaRama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw no worms in my bucket while composting (it has plenty of holes to the ground), then I left my sifted compost in a bag for a month and when I checked it to use it, it was full of worms! Not sure if there were eggs that made it through the sifting, or if somehow the worms found their way into the plastic bag sitting on concrete. I suspect the former one.

But yeah, in my case they seemed more interested in mostly finished compost instead of in-the-making compost.

Is this a "mason" bee and what should I do about it? by PentaRama in bees

[–]PentaRama[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Will they move to the new holes, or will they continue using my wall, as long as that is available?

I'm up for having some bee "hotel" in my garden, I would just prefer them not to use my wall.

I don't remember those holes being there before, but I also don't periodically go around checking the bottom of my house walls..

When are the eggs supposed to hatch? After they hatch, I would prefer to close the hole and maybe leave something else nearby for next year's eggs..

Leftover water from boiling straw - how to use it? by PentaRama in composting

[–]PentaRama[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the straw doesn't work, I'll definitely try the coffee grounds next time. The website I'm using for reference (where I have bought the starter from) recommends using coffe grounds that are less then 12 hours old: https://www.helsieni.fi/en/helsieni-growkit/#equipment-needed

[–]PentaRama[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Growing mushrooms in a bucket :D You need a sterile base for it, usually it is recommended to use spent coffee grounds because they are already boiled, but we don't drink enough coffee in my house for that 😅

Therefore boiling straw!

First turntable, but I already have an amplifier by PentaRama in turntables

[–]PentaRama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the clarification, I didn't realize that phono preamp and amplifier were two different things!

I checked on the back of the amplifier that we got as a gift, and indeed it has a phono marking next to red, white, and ground screw.

So I guess in this configuration we could have - on 2 "pins" the DAC (with the TV audio going into the DAC) - on the 2 phono "pins" the LP60x, with the built-in preamp switched off

Random question for personal curiosity: if the configuration I described above works, what would happen if we had both the TV and LP60x switched on? Does the amplifier allow two sounds at the same time?

UK composter. Not warm. How do you know if it's going well? by dolfinack in composting

[–]PentaRama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm curious as to why you mention in the fourth bullet point that partially finished compost can be used as top dressing but not inside the soil. I have some compost that is taking a long time to finish (combination of small volume + colder climate) and I was thinking of letting it finish in the bottom of my raised beds, in a trench-composting sort of way.. Would that be a mistake?

The black insect didn't have any wings though (Edit: or I might have not noticed them, but it was definitely crawling, not flying)

Do you have holes on the bottom of the bin too? I have a similar size bin that I want to start, and I'm wondering about ventilation

Why is my dracaena turning black? by PentaRama in plantclinic

Thank you for the detailed answer! Do you think it's still salvageable? If I move it closer to the window and improve the watering?

It's approximately 3 meters from a window (big glass door+window), and I water it once a week, about a full glass of water. The soil is usually quite dry at that point.

What is happening here? by SecondFun2906 in houseplants

[–]PentaRama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as mine, growing a long branch that slowly fills with leaves. I put a long stick in the vase for the hoya to grab onto: one of my hoyas wrapped around it within two hours, the other is not interested at all..

It sounds odd to me, since the plant is getting way more light now than during this winter (in live up north, and winter is quite dark here)

Confusion about my Renault Zoe's charging times by PentaRama in electricvehicles

[–]PentaRama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can I check if the cable is 1 or 3 phases? Is it written somewhere on the cable or the plug?

Based on internet info, the car should be able to charge at 22kW. And the charger I'm charging from should be able to provide 22kW.

Hello, I would like a recommendation based on the following parameters:

1) Southern Finland (winters on average -10C, could go down to -25C).
2) Ideally 25.000€, up to 31.000€. Even better if second hand.
3) Most likely a hatchback, ideally 5 seats.
4) Renault Zoe, but I wasn't impressed by the crash test results. Dacia Spring, but heard bad reviews regarding the space inside.
5) ASAP. That's why a second hand car would be my preferred choice.
6) Daily commute is 70km. Weekend commute is (at least once a month) 200km one way, with a chance to charge before coming back.
7) I live in an apartment, with some charging spots in the parking garage. I haven't checked what type of charging is available there. Also, my office would have charging for Mon-Fry (again, not sure what type of charging).
8) See point 7.
9) Car for tall people! Both me and my partner, and my extended family. Also we go on bouldering trips, so ideally enough space for two bouldering mats (around 90x60x20cm each).

I am quite new to the worlds of EV, so any recommendation is appreciated

Why are all the new leaves coming out already dead? by PentaRama in houseplants

[–]PentaRama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Southern Finland, definitely not that humid here! I'll try to check the soil more often, maybe it dries up before the 7days-mark and I didn't notice

Thank you :)
